Turkey Earthquake: Passport and luggage of an Indian found in the debris of a hotel in Turkey

The passport and belongings of a 35-year-old Indian, who went missing after the earthquake in Turkey, were recovered from the rubble of a hotel on Friday (February 10). In the morning, the rescue team had removed the debris of the hotel. It is believed that the person was staying in this hotel. According to media news, the rescue team is yet to trace the missing person and has extended its search operation to nearby hospitals.

The missing person has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand, who is an employee of a Bangalore-based company. He stayed at a four-star hotel in Malatya in Turkey’s Eastern Anatolia region.

Search continues for missing Indian

Foreign Ministry officials have also confirmed that Vijay Kumar is being searched. It is believed that Kumar was sleeping in a room on the second floor of the 24-storey hotel building when the earthquake hit the city in the early hours of Monday.

‘No body found under pile of concrete’

Friday’s search operation rekindled hope among Kumar’s family and friends in India for his survival. Ramesh Siddappa, MD, Oxyplants, waiting with Kumar’s family in Dehradun on Friday, said, “Hope seemed to be gone on Wednesday and Thursday but today (Friday) morning news came from the rescue site that there was no body under the pile of concrete.” Yes, this has left a new hope of Vijay being alive. We are praying for good news.

More than 25 thousand people died

On Monday (February 6), a devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in south-central Turkey and north-western Syria. Till Friday (February 10), more than 25 thousand people lost their lives due to the earthquake. In this, about 20,600 people died in Turkey and about 4,400 died in Syria. After the earthquake, relief and rescue work is going on in many areas till now.
