Twitter will soon restrict users from sharing links to rival platforms

Twitter: A massive social media network controlled by Elon Musk, said on Sunday (December 18) that it was prohibiting users from posting links to other social networking sites in their postings. Following Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, the most recent action is certain to spark criticism once more.

Free promotion of prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms to be removed

According to a statement on Twitter’s website, “At both the Tweet level and the account level, we will remove any free promotion of prohibited 3rd-party social media platforms, such as linking out (i.e. using URLs) to any of the below platforms on Twitter or providing your handle without a URL.”

Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Post, Truth Social, and other external networks are also included, as well as other social media link aggregators like linktr.ee and ink.bio.

Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter

Elon Musk, a billionaire, has purchased Jack Dorsey’s former company, Twitter. Since then, the platform has consistently made news headlines. First, the old board, which included the outgoing CEO Parag Agrawal, was summarily dismissed. Then, about half of the workforce was let go. The Twitter platform was shaken by these rash moves as concerns about the site’s stability in the wake of large layoffs were voiced.

Elon Musk has come under fire from people all around the world in recent days for suspending the accounts of journalists who were writing on an account that used information in the public domain to follow Musk’s jet.
