National Voters Day: Many of you first-time voters may be confused by the overwhelming number of options available, since 80% of Indian youth use social media to keep informed, according to a report. It’s normal to feel bewildered, but it’s crucial to understand your alternatives and get the facts straight.
Why Voting?
Young voters who are self-aware and conscientious are the most influential group in Indian politics at the moment. You have to use your influence to make your government take action on urgent concerns because it is your voice that calls for a plan of action for the impoverished. You should choose leaders who will promote universal access to basic necessities, end educational quotas, improve public health alternatives, and encourage voluntary development.
What is NOTA?
Voting is essential, if only to safeguard your vote from being abused. But what should you do if you have no faith in any of the candidates? Go to your polling place and select NOTA or None of the Above, which is the government’s strongest option. This gives young voters a way to voice their discontent with manifestos that are weak on the inside but heavy on rhetoric.
National Voters’ Day Greetings from PM Modi
On this National Voters’ Day, January 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the public and encouraged those who had not yet registered to vote to do so. He said on X, “Greetings on National Voters Day, an occasion which celebrates our vibrant democracy and also a day to encourage people to register as voters, if they haven’t already.”
PM Modi Addresses ‘Nav Matdata Sammelan’
Virtually addressing the “Nav Matdata Sammelan,” which brought together new voters from all around India, was PM Modi‘s speech. On National Voter’s Day, the PM spoke to thousands of first-time voters who had gathered at over 5,000 organised ‘NaMo Nav Matadata Sammelans’ around the nation.
PM Modi said, “You all have become an important part of the democratic system now that your names have been registered in the voter list,” while interacting with young voters during Namo Navmatdata Sammelan. During this period of the nation’s “Amrit Kaal,” each of you has been added to the voter list.”
PM Modi Entrusts Youth with India’s Future
“You all have the responsibility of building a developed India by 2047. You all have a great opportunity to decide how you can get your names etched with golden letters in a developed India. Our speed, direction, approach will be decided by you all and voting will be one big medium of it,” said PM Modi. “On this day, to be among first-time voters fills me with energy. You have now become the most important part of the democratic process…In the next 25 years, you have to determine both the future of Bharat and your own,” added PM Modi.
PM Modi’s Economic Transformation Message
During ‘NaMo Nav Matadata Sammelan’ for first-time voters, PM Modi said, “Today, people talk about credibility, not corruption; success stories, not scams. Earlier India was on the list of fragile five economies. But today, Bharat is the fifth largest economy in the world. In the coming years, India will become the top three economies in the world.”
The prime minister said that his administration brought India out of the shadows ten or twelve years ago, telling young people that their votes will determine India’s course and destiny. In a virtual speech to young voters hosted by the ruling BJP‘s youth wing, he stated that it is their duty to ensure that the nation develops over the next 25 years in the same manner that the younger generation did for its independence 25 years prior to Independence.
PM Modi Reflects on the Last Decade
He claimed that things had changed from the conditions that existed in the nation ten or twelve years ago, which had cast doubt on young people’s futures. According to him, the nation is currently discussing possibilities that the generation that lived before 2014—the year the BJP took power at the national level—had given up on.
The prime minister stated that while credibility and success stories are now discussed, corruption and frauds dominated headlines back then. He also added that news these days comes from accomplishments in a variety of fields. Speaking about increased infrastructure and many development initiatives like Digital India and support for start-ups, he claimed that young people had an abundance of opportunities.
Modi’s Commitment to Dreams
“It is Modi’s guarantee that your dreams are my resolve,” he said, claiming that his top priority has always been the kids. He cited the removal of Article 370, the implementation of the GST, the reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and assemblies, and the cessation of the practice of instant triple talaq among Muslims as examples of significant decisions and issues resolved during the last ten years of a stable and strong majority government at the Centre. The BJP claims that this is the first time a prime minister has so extensively addressed new voters and reminded them of their roles in the development of the country.
