Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda has criticized the Delhi government following Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s participation in a Yamuna cleaning campaign, questioning the administration’s focus and priorities.

Reacting to visuals of the campaign, Dhanda argued that such activities are typically undertaken by non-governmental organizations and voluntary groups, while the government’s primary responsibility is to implement long-term infrastructure and development projects. He alleged that despite being in office for over a year, the BJP-led government has not demonstrated significant progress on key projects related to sewage treatment and river rejuvenation.

Dhanda specifically raised concerns regarding sewage treatment infrastructure

Dhanda specifically raised concerns regarding sewage treatment infrastructure, claiming that there has been little visible progress in terms of inaugurating or laying the foundation for new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), which are considered essential for addressing pollution in the Yamuna River.

The AAP leader further accused the government of focusing on publicity-oriented activities instead of undertaking substantive measures to tackle environmental challenges. He described the administration as more interested in political optics than delivering concrete outcomes on issues affecting residents.

The remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party over governance, environmental management, and the condition of the Yamuna. The river’s pollution and restoration have remained key issues in Delhi’s political discourse, with parties often debating the effectiveness of measures taken to improve water quality and urban infrastructure.
