PM Modi Meets Biden, Trudeau, and Macron on the Sidelines of the G7 Summit in Germany

The G7 summit is an annual meeting where the democratic leaders of the world come together to
shape responses to global challenges harmonious with the global economic coordination carried
out by the G20. This year, the summit, being held in Germany, is an opportunity to offer a united
front in these stormy times, advocating for prosperity, progress, and security.

This year, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Canadian Prime
Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario
Draghi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and US President Joe Biden are taking part in
the summit.


The most important issue to be resolved at this summit will be the war in Ukraine, as leaders
strive to stop Russia’s oil revenues and mitigate the economic fallout of the conflict. “Solidarity
and close cooperation are needed to mitigate the impacts of Russia’s war against Ukraine.” is the
motto of the meeting.

Focus Areas
The seven working sessions of the summit will focus on various topics:
● global economy
● partnerships for developing countries
● foreign and security policy
● sustainability
● food security
● multilateralism
● digital transformation.


The German presidency has also invited leaders from Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal, and
South Africa to take part in several working sessions during the summit.
The G7 Summit invitation is in keeping with the tradition of strong and close partnership and
high-level political contacts between India and Germany.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Germany for the summit for two days. PM Modi’s
Germany visit is packed with meetings with G7 leaders and partner countries along with
discussions on issues ranging from environment, and energy, to counter-terrorism.
He arrived on Sunday and held a meeting with Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez,
discussing various topics. Notably, the multifaceted relations between the two countries
encompass political, economic, cultural, scientific, and technological cooperation.
On Monday, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with leaders of some of the participating countries
on the sidelines of the summit.

The prime minister’s itinerary includes a slew of bilateral meetings, including one with his host, German chancellor Olaf Scholz. He will also meet the President of South Africa, President of Indonesia, European Union Commission President, and Prime Minister of Canada, respectively.
