Mahua Moitra marries Pinaki Misra

TMC MP Mahua Moitra is now married and she managed to keep it completely off the radar. The Krishnanagar MP tied the knot with senior Supreme Court lawyer and former BJD MP Pinaki Misra in a quiet wedding in Germany on May 30.

The news was confirmed by Moitra herself in a phone call to The Indian Express. A photo of the couple standing at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate later surfaced in The Telegraph. Apart from that, there were no posts, no announcements and  just a low-key ceremony with only close friends and family in attendance.

Who Is Mahua Moitra’s Second Husband Pinaki Misra?

Pinaki Misra is a four-time MP from Odisha and a senior advocate in the Supreme Court. He first entered Parliament in 1996, defeating a sitting Union minister. He remained with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for most of his political career, serving in the Lok Sabha until 2019.

Though he’s kept a low profile recently, Misra has held several key positions on parliamentary committees and has had a steady legal and political run. His marriage to Moitra has now brought him back into public focus.

Political Firepower And Controversies Of Mahua Moitra

Mahua Moitra, 50, is known for her sharp speeches and headline-making political presence. Born in Assam, she studied economics and maths in the U.S., worked in high finance with JP Morgan in New York and London, and then returned to India to join politics.

She began with Congress in 2008 and shifted to TMC in 2010. After building her base in Nadia’s Karimpur, she won her first Lok Sabha seat in 2019. Her debut speech in Parliament (a sharp attack on the Modi government) went viral and made her one of the most recognisable TMC leaders nationwide.

But her career hit turbulence in 2023 when she was expelled from the Lok Sabha over the "cash-for-query" row. The complaint was filed by her ex-partner, lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, who accused her of taking gifts and money to raise questions in Parliament. Moitra denied the claims and dismissed Dehadrai as a “jilted ex.”

For the unversed, Moitra was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson, but the couple later divorced.
