As Babil’s Qala releases, Sutapa Sikdar drops pic of son’s first day on Irrfan Khan’s film set

Babil’s Qala releases: December 1 is very special for Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan. His first film Qala releases today on Netflix.  Babil’s mother Sutapa Sikdar took to her Instagram story to celebrate the day.

She shared an old photo of baby Babil with Irrfan and wrote, “First day to babas set to release of your film #qala. #elderson.” Sutapa used the hashtag ‘#pressureofparenting’ in the post.

It seems this photo was clicked during little Babil’s first visit to Irrfan’s film set. In the picture, Irrfan is seen holding Babil in his arms while he is busy looking at something.

Sutapa tags film director

Sutapa Sikdar also tagged Qala’s director Anvitaa Dutt as she expressed her gratitude with this post.

In the film, Babil plays Jagan, a young singer whose dreams get wings when he is spotted by a renowned artiste, played by Swastika Mukherjee.

Earlier Babil Khan opened up about the film and the inevitable comparison with his father Irrfan Khan. He shared he does not like the terms ‘debut’ and ‘launch’ and that he wanted to honour his mother’s upbringing with his art.

Difficult times for Babil

He talked about going through difficult times after his dad’s demise. “It was difficult to accept myself and to be like yes to accept your flaws. And to understand that who you were when baba was there. The protection that baba gave me which was gone suddenly. I got really scared, very scared and so that’s why it was extremely difficult.”

Qala also stars Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. The film chronicles the complicated relationship between a singer and her mother against the background of 1940s in Kolkata. In the film, Babil appears as Tripti’s rival. The film is produced by Karnesh Ssharma’s Clean Slate Filmz.

Irrfan Khan, one of the most loved actors in Bollywood, passed away in 2020.
