Farhan Akhtar has finally spoken about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Don 3 after Ranveer Singh’s reported exit from the project. The actor-director addressed the situation in a recent interview and reflected on the unpredictability of filmmaking. His comments come amid continued confusion over the film’s future and rising industry chatter about delays and financial losses.
Don 3, which was expected to be one of the biggest instalments in the franchise, has been in headlines for months after Ranveer Singh reportedly walked out of the project. Reports suggest the exit created tension between the actor and the makers, with discussions also reaching industry bodies due to the scale of investment already made.
Farhan Akhtar On Industry Uncertainty And Don 3 Controversy
Speaking about the situation, Farhan Akhtar said The Hollywood Reporter India, “What I’ve learned is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film. That’s really what it is.”

He also reflected on his long journey in cinema and the unpredictability that comes with it. Farhan added, “I also feel that from the time that I began, from that moment when Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Dimple Kapadia, Saif Ali Khan and Ritesh Sidhwani, as my partner, till they came on and said yes, ‘let’s make this film’ – from that moment on I’ve had the most incredible ride. It has just been (about) working with the people I want to work with, whether directing them or acting in films that I want to act in with directors. And it has been amazing. You realise that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to be a little bit more challenging. You have had it good, so it’s okay… Just take it in your stride.”
Don 3 Controversy And Ranveer Singh Exit
The issue reportedly began after Ranveer Singh stepped away from Don 3 following Dhurandhar’s release in late 2025. While the actor’s exit created a major setback for the project, the makers were already deep into pre-production.
Reports suggest around Rs 40 crore had been invested before the disruption. The script had reportedly gone through multiple stages of approval, and tensions escalated over creative and scheduling disagreements.
There were also claims that Ranveer Singh offered to return his signing amount and help compensate the production house through his next project. However, sources close to the makers have denied any final agreement.
As of now, Don 3 remains in limbo with no confirmed production restart or cast announcement. However, Farnan has said that the project is not shelved and will happen.
