All About Stage 4 Liver Cancer

Stage 4 Liver Cancer is a metastatic mayhem and not just an advanced stage of a severe and debilitating health condition. It hit lungs, bones, lymph nodes and almost every part of the body.

Early Warning Signs You Can’t Ignore

The common early warning signs of Stage 4 liver cancer include:

  • Unexplained Weight Loss: Losing 10-20 percent of body weight in weeks or a few months without any noticeable diet changes signals failing metabolism of the liver.
  • Jaundice Explosion: Yellowing of skin and eyes from the buildup of bilirubin as the liver is unable to process toxins.
  • Abdominal Swelling (Ascites): Accumulation of fluid could cause a bloating belly that makes you feel full after even small meals.

Symptoms Of Liver Cancer

Once metastasized, liver cancer symptoms escalate from nagging to nightmarish. Constant ache in the upper right abdomen radiates to the back, which gets worsened by tumour pressure on nerves. Nausea, black stools from varices-swollen veins bursting under portal hypertension or vomiting blood (hematemesis). Coughing blood from lung spread, bone fractures from skeletal invasion or confusion (hepatic encephalopathy) from toxin overload.

Treatment Options: Fighting a Losing Battle?

Stage 4 isn’t curable, but aggressive interventions can extend life and ease suffering. Systemic Chemotherapy with medications such as sorafenib or lenvatinib could be used to target cancer cells. Checkpoint inhibitors (pembrolizumab, nivolumab) along with chemotherapy could be good options. Radiation, stents for bile ducts or pain medications improve quality of life.
