Lucknow Metro: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has good news for residents of Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh and Vasantkunj.

A tender worth Rs. 492.22 crore has been floated by UPMRC for elevated stations at Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarazganj, Musabagh and Vasantkunj.

The latest tender by UPMRC marks the start of Phase 1B of the ongoing metro work expansion in Lucknow. A completion timeline of 30 months from the start date of the project has been established.

What’s Special About Lucknow News?

The total length of the Lucknow corridor is 11.165 kilometres. It would include 6.879 km of underground sections and 4.286 km of elevated track.

The project would feature 12 metro stations: 5 elevated and 7 underground. The stations would be serving both emerging residential areas and heritage zones of the city. The Lucknow Metro project involves the design and construction of an elevated viaduct that is expected to stretch about 4.6 km, extending from Thakurganj to Vasantkunj.

The entire project that would likely be completed within a timeframe of 5 years has an estimated cost of Rs. 5,801 crore.

The Rs. 493 crore tender includes works, including but not limited to water supply, drainage, fire-fighting systems, civil structures, architectural finishes, pre-engineered buildings and complete electrical and mechanical installations.

Tender documents have been made available on the UP government portal from January 1 and the submission window would close on February 2. A mandatory pre-bid virtual meeting is scheduled for January 12 that would allow potential bidders to seek clarifications. On February 3, the technical bids would be opened.

This mass rapid transit (MRT) system is one of the five operational metro networks in the state after Noida-Greater Noida Metro, Kanpur Metro, Delhi Meerut RRTS, Meerut Metro and Agra Metro. It would be the state’s 3rd largest urban transit system after Noida Metro and Delhi Meerut RRTS.

During his visit to Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday morning interacted with people from various districts at the Janta Darshan held at Gorakhnath Temple and heard their concerns. He reaffirmed that resolving every citizen’s problem is the government’s firm commitment and directed officials to act with utmost promptness and sensitivity to ensure justice for all, without discrimination.

The Chief Minister stressed that all eligible beneficiaries must receive the benefits of welfare schemes, the needy should be provided proper medical treatment, and strict action must be taken against land grabbers and influential offenders.

At the Janta Darshan held in the Mahant Digvijaynath Smriti Bhavan auditorium of Gorakhnath Temple, the Chief Minister listened to the grievances of around 150 people.

Moving among the attendees, he personally heard their complaints and forwarded all applications to the concerned officials with clear instructions for time-bound and satisfactory resolution. He assured the people that the government stands fully committed to addressing the problems of every affected individual.

Responding to requests for financial assistance for the treatment of serious illnesses, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured that no patient’s treatment would be halted due to a lack of funds.

He instructed officials to promptly prepare estimates for advanced medical treatment, stating that once the estimates are submitted, funds would be released immediately. He also directed officials to ensure swift disposal of matters related to revenue and law and order.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Minister followed his routine at Gorakhnath Temple. After offering prayers to Guru Gorakhnath and paying homage to the statue of his guru, the late Mahant Avaidyanath, he toured the temple.

He visited the cowshed, served the cows, and fed jaggery to the cows and calves. During the visit, he also met children who had come with their families, blessing them warmly and distributing chocolates to them.

On January 9, Singh would reach the Ashok Leyland EV facility to inaugurate the facility. The EV manufacturing plant’s inauguration is seen by industry analysts as a significant catalyst and a step forward to boost electric mobility and industrial development in the state.

CM Yogi Adityanath: Ashok Leyland Facility’s Journey

In September 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has signed between Ashok Leyland and CM Yogi Adityanath. Thereafter, a letter of intent was issued by the Uttar Pradesh government to Ashok Leyland in January 2024. The state-of-the-art EV unit in Lucknow was established in just 14 months.

Investment and Employment

Ashok Leyland has invested approximately ₹1,000 crore in the Lucknow’s Electric Vehicle factory. The unit is a bus-manufacturing and integrated chassis plant. It would have an initial production capacity of 2,500 units every year, which would be expanded to 5,000 units every year in subsequent phases.

The Lucknow EV unit would be manufacturing advanced commercial vehicles based on electric vehicles, internal combustion engines and alternative fuels. This would help in addressing the requirements of both domestic and global markets.

The Uttar Pradesh industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ said the EV plant would strengthen the automobile manufacturing capabilities of the state and prepare Uttar Pradesh for the future of mobility.

The unit is expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities for the state.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab’s fight against drugs continued with full intensity as Punjab Police completed Day 312 of the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, registering major action against drug smuggling networks across the state.

According to official data shared by Punjab Police and ANTF Punjab, coordinated raids and search operations were carried out at 312 locations statewide. These operations led to the arrest of 107 drug smugglers in a single day.

Bhagwant Mann: Heroin Recovered, Total Arrests Cross 43,500

During the operations, the police recovered 6.2 kilograms of heroin along with other contraband substances, dealing a significant blow to illegal drug supply chains. With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested in the last 312 days has risen to 43,544, highlighting the sustained nature of the crackdown.

Focus on Enforcement and Rehabilitation

Officials said the campaign is not limited to law enforcement alone. As part of the EDP (Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention) strategy, 41 individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction treatment, reinforcing the government’s emphasis on rehabilitation alongside strict action.

Commitment to a Drug-Free Punjab

The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, stating that the mission aims to protect the youth and restore social health. Punjab Police has once again appealed to citizens to cooperate and share information related to drug activities.

Meerut News: Meerut SSP Vipin Tada has commented that the report of a man fleeing a 20-year-old girl without her consent is wrong. It seems that the complete matter is of a possible love affair and the girl went with the man with her implied consent.

SSP Clears Air on ‘Abduction’ Claims

The Meerut SSP said that the man and girl were known to each other and were from the same village. It was also remarked that the report was registered in Sardhana Police Station that the man stabbed the girl’s mother with a sharp knife after which she was admitted to a nearby hospital. Her condition is serious and she is on a ventilator.

Meerut News-Massive Manhunt Underway

The SSP added that five teams have been made under the direction of Meerut Superintendent of Police (Rural) to nab the accused man, promising quick justice amid rising tensions. The Meerut SSP further revealed that investigations are presently underway to uncover the complete case details. He urged public not to spread unverified rumours.

In the now viral video, the mother can be seen lying on a hospital bed with injuries. Social media users have condemned the actions of the girl and the man.

Such elopement-linked family tragedies are not isolated in Meerut or Uttar Pradesh, where family honour clases often turn fatal, as seen in the recent Hapur and Baghpat cases.

In January 2025, a 22-year-old married woman in Baghpat was brutally killed by her brother, husband and relatives after she eloped with neighbour-lover. The woman’s body was found buried in a sugarcane field and later exhumed. In another incident in Baghpat, a 17-year-old Muslim girl was found murdered by her family after she eloped with a Dalit youth. The girl was strangled and the family faked her death due to tuberculosis. She was secretly buried before her body was exhumed by the state police.
