Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said he has been receiving messages from across the world regarding the issue of accountability of offerings (golak) and public transparency. Acknowledging the sentiments of the global Sikh community, the Chief Minister stated that his clarification scheduled for January 15 should be telecast live on all channels.

In a statement shared publicly, Bhagwant Mann said that when the accounts of the offerings are presented before the Sikh sangat, it should happen in full public view so that devotees remain connected to the process moment by moment and penny by penny.

Bhagwant Mann: Appeal for Transparency

The Chief Minister said he has formally requested the Jathedar Sahib to allow a direct live broadcast of his clarification. He emphasised that transparency is essential to maintain trust and to ensure that the sangat across India and abroad is fully informed.

Bhagwant Mann said the demand for live telecast reflects the collective feelings of devotees worldwide, who wish to witness the proceedings without any filters or intermediaries.

According to official data shared by Punjab Police and ANTF Punjab, coordinated raids and search operations were carried out at 312 locations statewide. These operations led to the arrest of 107 drug smugglers in a single day.

During the operations, the police recovered 6.2 kilograms of heroin along with other contraband substances, dealing a significant blow to illegal drug supply chains. SSP Clears Air on ‘Abduction’ Claims

The Meerut SSP said that the man and girl were known to each other and were from the same village. It was also remarked that the report was registered in Sardhana Police Station that the man stabbed the girl’s mother with a sharp knife after which she was admitted to a nearby hospital. Her condition is serious and she is on a ventilator.

The SSP added that five teams have been made under the direction of Meerut Superintendent of Police (Rural) to nab the accused man, promising quick justice amid rising tensions. The Meerut SSP further revealed that investigations are presently underway to uncover the complete case details. He urged public not to spread unverified rumours.

In January 2025, a 22-year-old married woman in Baghpat was brutally killed by her brother, husband and relatives after she eloped with neighbour-lover. The woman’s body was found buried in a sugarcane field and later exhumed. In another incident in Baghpat, a 17-year-old Muslim girl was found murdered by her family after she eloped with a Dalit youth. The girl was strangled and the family faked her death due to tuberculosis. She was secretly buried before her body was exhumed by the state police.

Kanpur News: Uttar Pradesh Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal has suspended Sachendi Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Singh and Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi for distortion of facts and alleged lapses.

The UP Police have arrested a YouTuber while a sub-inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Police is on the run. The case relates to the alleged abduction and gang-rape in Kanpur’s Sachendi of a 14-year-old girl.

A class 7 dropout, the girl was allegedly abducted around 10 pm on Monday in a Mahindra Scorpio. According to media reports, the girl was taken by the duo to a deserted place near a railway track. She was then sexually assaulted for approximately two hours before being abandoned in an unconscious state outside her house.

Latest Update on this Kanpur News

UP Police Commissioner said Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav have been named in the First Information Report (FIR). The SUV that was used in the crime has been seized; it belongs to Maurya.

It was revealed during investigations that the sub-inspector was present in Sachendi despite being posted at the Bithoor Police Station.

The victim’s brother said the police seized his sister’s mobile phone. He added that she was prevented from making a return to the home until her statement was recorded in the court. He also said they were turned away on telling the police personnel that one of the crime accused was a policeman.

SHO was suspended for his failure to invoke the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the initial stages. The case investigation would now be overseen by Additional DCP (West) Kapil Dev Singh.

The incident has sparked massive political and public outrage. Former CPI(M) MP Subhashini Ali met the commissioner to condemn the “widespread impunity” in crimes committed against girls and women in Uttar Pradesh.

Aligarh Muslim University: A senior professor has alleged that she is facing continuing harassment at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) because of her religion.

Senior Professor Rachana Kaushal from the AMU’s Political Science Department remarked she has been facing harassment by AMU Dean Prof. Mohammad Nafis Ahmad Ansari at the prestigious university for more than 27 years as she is a Hindu.

Kaushal made a written complaint to the Vice Chancellor of AMU along with documents and audio recordings. She added that the harassment has caused both professional as well as personal suffering, including a miscarriage.

Battle of Rachana Kaushal Against Aligarh Muslim University

Bhaskar English reported that her ordeal started as early as her joining date as a lecturer in 1998. Rachana remarked AMU Dean Prof. Mohammad Nafis Ahmad Ansari asked her to join the Banaras Hindu University as she is a Hindu. The Dean according to her claimed that teachers from the Hindu community deliberately avoid teaching students from the Muslim community.

Rachana said audio recordings of the Dean’s remarks were submitted to the VC Prof. Naima Khatun as evidence. Rachana added she was denied the role of coordinator by the Dean in the NHRC human rights training program despite she being a statutory member of the Board of Studies (BoS) with expertise and seniority.

It was further added that AMU did not provided her the online meeting link when she went to attend the convocation of her daughter in America. Rachana added the meeting agenda was sent late to her deliberately.

Previously, Rachana was seen fighting a court battle. In 2019, she was an Associate Professor in the department of Political Science. Rachana remarked that AMU acted arbitrarily to deny a fair treatment to her while considering her promotion claim for the post of Professor under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

The Court found that the action of AMU was not fair and transparent in denying Rachana a promotion under CAS.

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has hit an unexpected roadblock just days before its planned release. The film was scheduled to arrive in theatres on January 9, 2026. However, it was postponed barely two days before release due to delays in getting the censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The sudden decision has left fans disappointed and the makers facing heavy losses.

What made the situation more dramatic was the fact that ticket bookings had already opened in select Indian theatres and overseas markets. Shows were planned. Screens were blocked. Promotions were in full swing. Then came the last-minute halt. According to reports, the Vijay starrer may suffer LOSSES close to Rs 50 cr due to the delay.

The distributors have now started issuing refunds. Still, the big question is – How badly will this postponement impact Jana Nayagan at the box office?

Jana Nayagan Pre-Sales Showed Massive Demand

When Vijay announced that Jana Nayagan would be his final film before entering politics full-time, excitement shot through the roof. As the release date came closer, demand exploded. In Chennai, some tickets reportedly sold for as high as Rs 5,000 in the black market. That alone showed the film’s opening-day potential.

As per Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 10.68 cr in India through pre-sales, including blocked seats. Given the inflated black-market prices, trade experts believe the actual opening-day potential could have been much higher.

The overseas numbers were even more striking. The film reportedly collected nearly Rs 32 cr internationally for the opening day alone. It outperformed all other Sankranti and Pongal releases in overseas markets. This included films scheduled around the same time, such as Prabhas’ The Raja Saab. Strong momentum was seen in North America, the UK, and Malaysia.

UK distributor Ahimsa Entertainment also shared its scale of release before announcing the postponement. The statement read, “We had charted 260+ theatres across the UK, thousands of shows, a record number of 12:30 am (6 am IST) premiere shows/locations for a Tamil film, and pre-sales trending at the same level as ‘LEO’ – with over 65,000 tickets sold as of today.”

CBFC Delay Sparks Controversy, Fans Support

The postponement has raised serious questions about the certification process. The makers had submitted the film to the CBFC on December 18 and completed the requested cuts by December 24. Despite this, there was no response for nearly 10 days. On January 5, the film was suddenly referred to a revising committee following a complaint about scenes involving the armed forces and religious sentiments.

Members of Vijay’s political party (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) accused the CBFC of deliberate delay. The Madras High Court also questioned the transparency of reopening the certification process, especially when the complaint reportedly came from someone who had not even seen the film. With the legal process still ongoing, KVN Productions officially postponed the film.

Amid the chaos, actor Ravi Mohan (who calls himself a Thalapathy Vijay fan) came out in strong support. Calling himself “heartbroken”, he wrote on X, “Anna… as a brother, I’m standing with you as one among the millions of brothers beside you. You don’t need a date… you are the opening. Whenever that date is… Pongal only starts then.”

Jana Nayagan now awaits a new release date. The makers have assured fans that the film will hit theatres once the CBFC issue is resolved.

Interestingly, the United States has not ratified the UN Convention but usually recognizes its provisions as customary laws.

On X, the US military’s European Command confirmed the oil tanker seizure operation. In a statement, it added that the Homeland Security Department, the Justice Department and the US Defence Department had seized the oil tanker for violations of sanctions by the United States.

The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence (MoD) said it offered “enabling support” to the United States during the oil tank seizure operation.

It was reported that there were no vessels of Russia in the vicinity of the seized oil tanker when the ship was boarded by the US Coast Guard. This possibly averted a possible stand-off between Russian and the United States forces.

Amid Sara Arjun’s newfound success, Dhurandhar continues to rule the box office. As of Day 33, the Ranveer Singh starrer earned Rs 831.40 cr nett in India, making it the highest-earning Hindi film ever (according to the makers’ claims). Turkman Gate Demolition Drive: Delhi Police has identified 30 stone-pelters and is probing more than 400 videos.

The police action is related to the stone-pelting incident that happened during an anti-encroachment drive in the Ramlila Maidan of Delhi near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque. On January 7 early morning, several people pelted glass bottles and stones at Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) workers and the police team. MCD was only following the orders of the Delhi High Court. The Court ordered the MCD to recover more than 38,000 square feet of communal encroachment from iconic Ramlila Maidan, Turkman Gate.

Delhi Police has also sent a notice to Mohibullah Nadvi, Rampur’s Samajwadi Party MP, who was present at the stone-pelting site to join the investigation.

Turkman Gate Demolition Drive-What Happened 50 Years Ago?

In early 1976, the family planning campaign was initiated on the orders of a top Congress leader and the son of the then PM Indira Gandhi.

Sanjay Gandhi ordered the jhuggi-jhomproi and slum colonies to be cleared. He also ordered that the residents be forcibly sterilized. Sanjay visited Turkman Gate to oversee the proceedings and was visibly upset by the hostile reception from area residents.

On 13 April 1976, the first bulldozer arrived at the walled city’s Turkman Gate. Some outlying hutments were cleared. A few days later, beggars, street vendors, rickshaw-wallas and even passers-by were picked up at random and forced to undergo sterilization.

On 19 April 1976, the bulldozers on the orders of Sanjay started moving forward again. A group of children and women started gathering on Turkman Gate’s main road. After protests by residents, police started indiscriminate firing leaving the whole area strewn with injured and dead. Senior police officers of Delhi were seen shouting orders to their men. ‘Aage badho, aage badho! Maro salaon ko! Maro, maro!’ (Advance, advance, shoot them, shoot, shoot!).

This alert denotes cold conditions in continuation with strong winds, a weather pattern that may affect the elderly, children, and those suffering from respiratory problems. “Schools, hospitals, and transport services have been ordered to take all precautionary measures.

Bone-chilling winds stir discomfort

Adding to this chill were strong north-westerly winds that developed the cold into wind chills well below the actual temperatures. Prolonged exposure to such conditions can cause a lot of discomfort and elevate the risk of cold-related health problems, warn experts. The residents are advised to put on warm clothing and try to avoid any travel that is not of prime importance during peak periods of wind flow.
