Delhi News: The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has been directed by the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) to start the liquidation of regulatory asset dues of more than Rs. 38000 crore. DERC has received three weeks to complete the entire process as there was no legal hurdle to start the process. Would this increase electricity tariffs for Delhiites this summer?

DERC submitted a plea in which it sought time till July 1 this year to start the process. However, the tribunal rejected the plea and said the delay would only burden consumers ultimately.
Moreover, the tribunal set aside the DERC’s move to conduct an audit of power distribution companies via the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The tribunal went on to direct the DERC to appoint an independent chartered accountant within a period of 7 days. It also asked that a comprehensive and stringent audit of the discoms must be completed within a period of 3 months, in line with the earlier directions of the Honourable Supreme Court.
In its ruling, it was observed by APTEL that the DERC has been finding different reasons to deliberately delay the liquidation of regulatory assets that has increased the amount of regulatory assets day by day. The order said the conduct of DERC appears to be malafide and requires to be deprecated.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of plunging West Bengal into lawlessness.
The Defence Minister accused the ruling TMC of presiding over a climate of corruption, lawlessness and fear. Singh also claimed that investors and industries have long left the state because of insecurity, widespread corruption and lack of government support.
Singh while addressing an election rally in Sainthia in Birbhum district remarked that India was progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kangana Ranaut Blasts Mamata Banerjee
In another development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP and actress Kangana Ranaut has blasted Mamata Banerjee for his absolute failure to maintain proper law and order in the state of West Bengal. Ranaut claimed that West Bengal has failed to protect its daughters and mothers as TMC goons actively harass and molest them.
The Lok Sabha MP also criticized the West Bengal CM for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Ranaut added that lakhs of names have been removed previously to form favourable governments. Ranaut added that SIR is an open and transparent process to take action against infiltrators.
Ranaut questioned why the chief minister of West Bengal feels the pain of illegal immigrants who are only doing harm to the country.
The comments of Rajnath Singh and Kangana Ranaut came amid increased political tension in West Bengal ahead of the state assembly elections that are scheduled for April 23 and 29, with vote counting on May 4.
