Continuing global outreach to promote investment and deepen international partnerships, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann undertook a series of engagements to further strengthen economic cooperation and fostering people-to-people connect.

During strategic interaction with the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce & Trade, led by its Chairperson Ms. Edith Nordmann, the Chief Minister batted for enhancing bilateral business linkages and promoting investment flows between Punjab and the Netherlands. He also highlighted Punjab’s strategic focus on value addition, export-led growth, and integration with global supply chains, particularly in sectors such as food processing and manufacturing. Bhagwant Singh Mann invited NICCT to play a proactive role in connecting Punjab with Dutch enterprises and facilitating sector-specific engagements and business delegations.

Meanwhile, during investment Road show in The Hague, the Chief Minister further showcased the state’s industrial strengths and emerging opportunities in the event, which witnessed participation from industry leaders, business representatives and stakeholders from across the Netherlands. Bhagwant Singh Mann highlighted Punjab’s transition towards value-added manufacturing, industrial growth, and export-led development. He also showcased the state’s strong fundamentals, including its robust manufacturing ecosystem, skilled workforce, progressive policies, and investor-friendly governance framework.

The Chief Minister also underlined the strong historical and cultural ties between Punjab and the Netherlands, reflecting shared values of resilience, openness and innovation. He also underscored the state Government’s proactive and reform-oriented approach towards investment promotion and ease of doing business adding that the Industrial & Business Development Policy 2026 is one of the most competitive in the country. Bhagwant Singh Mann also apprised them about the effectiveness of the Fast Track Punjab Portal in ensuring single-window clearances and time-bound approvals.

The Chief Minister invited global investors to “come, invest and grow in Punjab,” while appreciating the shared cultural values and entrepreneurial spirit between Punjab and the Netherlands. He also highlighted Punjab’s strategic advantages and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to facilitating seamless investments adding he emphasized Punjab’s distinct advantages such as quality infrastructure, progressive farmers, and skilled manpower aligned with global standards. Bhagwant Singh Mann also called on the Dutch companies to explore Punjab as a promising destination for new and expansion investments.

The Chief Minister also interacted with members of the Punjabi diaspora during a community engagement program, which provided an opportunity to strengthen cultural ties and deepen people-to-people connections. He acknowledged the contributions of the Indian and Punjabi community in the Netherlands towards strengthening bilateral relations through cultural and economic linkages. During interaction, Bhagwant Singh Mann also sought their suggestions, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to engaging with the diaspora as key partners in Punjab’s growth journey.

Pappu Yadav: A massive political controversy has emerged after independent MP Pappu Yadav made highly objectionable remarks about women in public life.

Speaking to reporters, Yadav remarked that women in political life cannot succeed or enter without making compromises. The Purnia MP went on to add that there is widespread exploitation of females by male politicians in India. Yadav went on to add that as much as 90 percent women’s political careers start in the bedroom of male political leaders.

Yadav also alleged that there is CCTV footage of a politician every day and it has almost become a policy to exploit women in the country.

This is not the first time that Pappu Yadav has used objectionable and disgusting comments against women of the country. There have been several instances in the past where he had used indiscriminately words against women and fellow politicians.

Reaction By Shehzad Poonawala

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala wrote on X that everyone must have a look at the words of the Congress-supported MP, especially at a time when the country was pushing for Nari Shakti. Poonawala added that this is the disgusting mindset of such leaders supported by the Congress Party.

BJP leader Charu Pragya urged that Pappu Yadav must be immediately dismissed from both the party and the Indian Parliament.

The statement by Yadav came in the wake of the Union Government’s push to implement the women’s reservation bill and increase the count of Lok Sabha seats to 816.

After the bill’s defeat, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had commented that it is not the defeat of a bill that encourages the participation of women in the Indian Parliament but it was a deliberate attack on the self-respect and dignity of women. Modi also said that a woman may forget many things but can never forget her insult.

Modi went on to comment that the comment of Congress and other opposition parties in the Indian Parliament would remain in the minds of every woman across the country.

He also hinted that he may stop directing after this project. The director said, “I don’t think I should do more. I will look after you… Look after your family. Main ghusunga nahi Varun ki picture main (I won’t be involved in his picture), but I’ll be there with him all the time.”

Indian Railways: The Indian Railways has some good news for passengers ahead of the peak summer vacation season. From now on, passengers can get their tickets confirmed using the special “Opt Vikalp” feature of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Indian Railways-What is “Opt Vikalp” Feature?

The “Opt Vikalp” feature allows a user to book a confirmed seat (depending on availability) on a different train that is running on the same route. In other words, users can now book tickets with a better chance of confirmed rail ticket bookings. The best thing is that users don’t have to pay anything extra after they have booked the ticket.

The IRCTC Vikalp feature gets activated once the process of chart preparation starts and if there is a vacant seat on another train on the same travel route.

Who Get Benefited The Most?

The Vikalp or Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme is an excellent option for passengers whose tickets remain in the train’s waiting list even after charts have been prepared. The feature helps passengers find tickets on other trains running on the same route.

When the Vikalp feature is activated, the system searches for vacant seats (if available) automatically. If there is a vacant seat, the Passenger Name Record (PNR) gets updated automatically with the new train.

To turn on this feature, users need to turn on the feature BEFORE or AFTER booking tickets. They need to visit the IRCTC mobile app or official website with a user ID and choose their preferred train and travel date. Thereafter, they need to scroll down on the filling page for passenger details and visit ‘Other preferences section’ and click on ‘opt options’ before completing the entire booking process.

New Facility For Persons With Disabilities

In another development, Indian Railways has announced that Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) would be able to travel in unreserved Divyangjan coaches of Mail and Express trains, provided they hold a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday reached out to celebrated Dutch hockey legend Floris Jan Bovelander, offering to utilise his expertise to further strengthen hockey in Punjab, particularly in the run-up to the prestigious Asian Champions Trophy.

During a detailed meeting, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann discussed the broader ecosystem of hockey and sports in Punjab, emphasising the government’s commitment to restoring the pristine glory of the national game. He lauded Floris Jan Bovelander’s exceptional skills and immense contribution to hockey, noting that his remarkable journey continues to inspire young players across the globe.

Inviting the Olympian to Punjab, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the state is keen to facilitate his engagement with athletes to sharpen their skills and exposure. “Punjab is committed to nurturing sporting talent and taking hockey to new heights. It is a matter of immense pride that, for the first time in its history, Punjab will host the Hockey Asian Champions Trophy, which is a major milestone for the state’s sporting ecosystem,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of upcoming international events, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Asian Games will conclude in early October, after which the top six teams will compete in the Champions Trophy. He added that the approval of a four-nation invitational tournament will further strengthen Punjab’s position as a global hockey hub. “Despite a strong Punjabi presence in Indian hockey over decades, Punjab had never hosted a major international hockey tournament until now. This marks a historic shift,” he noted.

Reiterating the deep-rooted connection between Punjab and hockey, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the two are inseparable. “It is impossible to imagine Indian hockey without Punjabi players. More than 50 players from Punjab have won Olympic medals, and 10 Punjabi players have captained India in Olympic hockey,” he stated.

Emphasising Punjab’s rich legacy, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann pointed out that villages such as Sansarpur, Khusropur and Mithapur have collectively produced over 20 Olympians. He further highlighted recent achievements, stating that India’s bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics came after a gap of 41 years, with nine Punjabi players in the squad led by Manpreet Singh. “In the Paris 2024 Olympics as well, India secured another bronze medal, with 10 Punjabi players in the team, where Harmanpreet Singh led the side as captain and emerged as top scorer,” he added.

Public hearings would be conducted for social impact assessment (SIA) in the affected villages as per the Land Acquisition Officer and Sub-Divisional Officer of Wazirpur in accordance with information issued by the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) Gangapur City.

The hearings would start on May 4, 2026, at 11am for the revenue villages of Rendayal Turk, Rendayal Gurjar and Chak Rendayal Gurjar within the Wazirpur Tehsil.

On May 5, hearings would happen in Khedla Janatpur and Mohcha while hearings would happen at Bharat Nirman Seva Kendra for Badhrayal, Kemrikurd and Bhalpur on May 6.

All affected landowners and citizens have been asked to mark their presence on these dates at the designated venues to register their objections or suggestions.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan administration has prohibited land use changes, purchases, sales or any form of development activity in the villages that have been slated for construction. The expressway is likely to pass via several Sawai Madhopur villages like Janatpur, Rendayal Turk, Rendayal, Kemri Khurd, Badh Rayal, Khedla and Mohcha Bhalpur.

The 342km Greenfield Project will traverse the districts of Jaipur, Tonk, Dausa, Ajmer and Sawai Madhopur. It would start from NH58 in Beawar and pass via Bandanwara, Bhinai, Nagola, Kekri, Phagi, Madhorajpura, Todaraisingh, Masuda, Niwai, Lalsot, Nirjharna and Gangapur City before it terminates at NH21 in Bharatpur. This would significantly improve regional and local connectivity in all of these districts and the state.

During the 1990s, it was suggested by a controversial book that tight bras may restrict lymphatic drainage, resulting in toxin buildup in the breast tissue. However, the scientific community quickly pointed out major flaws in these claims. What Science Actually Says About Bras and Cancer?
