The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly condemned the so-called India–US trade deal, calling it a dangerous, anti-farmer and anti-national agreement that will devastate Indian agriculture and push millions of farmers towards economic ruin.

AAP Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that BJP leader Sunil Jakhar is celebrating the deal without understanding, or deliberately hiding, its catastrophic consequences for India’s poor and marginal farmers.

“Sunil Jakhar says AAP is silent. Let me make it very clear, we are not silent. We have been raising objections for the last ten days, from the very day this deal was announced. It is BJP that kept the nation in the dark. The Prime Minister could not speak in Parliament. Instead, the country learned about the deal from Donald Trump’s tweets,” Dhaliwal said.

He pointed out that Trump repeatedly used the word ‘agriculture’ in his statements, which should alarm every Indian farmer.
“Our concern is simple and serious: this deal opens India’s markets to heavily subsidised American agricultural products, directly threatening Indian farmers who already receive little to no support.”

American Red Sorghum, Corn, Cotton, Apples, Almonds, Who Will Protect Indian Farmers?

Dhaliwal highlighted the example of red sorghum, 75% of which is produced in the US, while in India it is grown by poor farmers in drought-prone regions of Maharashtra, with no MSP support.

“If American red sorghum and other American grains and dairy floods Indian markets, our maize, bajra, and indigenous crops will collapse. Farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra and UP will be wiped out,” he warned.

He further questioned What will happen to cotton farmers if subsidised US cotton enters India? Where will Jammu & Kashmir farmers go if American almonds and walnuts flood the market? How will apple growers in Himachal and Kashmir survive against cheap US apples? What about dairy and other agricultural products that will follow?

Unequal Tariffs, Total Surrender

“This is not a trade deal. This is economic surrender,” he said.

Jakhar Changed Masters, Not Habits
Taking a sharp dig at Sunil Jakhar, Dhaliwal said, “When Congress was in power, Jakhar sang praises of Indira Gandhi. Today he sings praises of Narendra Modi. But he never speaks for farmers or Punjabis. Speak for farmers, not for your political masters.”

Dhaliwal reiterated that this deal is against Indian farmers, is against national interest, Will destroy Indian agriculture and push farmers towards bankruptcy and suicides.

“The US has found the world’s biggest market for its surplus farm produce. But where will our farmers go? Who will answer this?” Dhaliwal asked. He directly challenged Sunil Jakhar and the BJP government to explain to the people of India, how is this deal in the interest of Indian farmers? Start by answering one question: what benefit will Indian farmers get when American red sorghum, corn, cotton, apples and almonds flood our markets?”

Dhaliwal warned BJP Punjab leaders to think before speaking and stop misleading the nation, asserting that the aam aadmi party will continue to expose this “anti-farmer conspiracy” at every level.

Bajwa’s remark is an insult to Dalit community; Congress must apologize within 24 hours or be ready to face strict action: Harpal Cheema

Senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Forest Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, and AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu, have jointly, in strong words, condemned the unfortunate and objectionable remark made by Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa about Punjab Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. The three leaders termed the Congress party as having an anti-Dalit mindset and issued a stern warning to Bajwa and the Congress party to apologize within 24 hours, failing which strict legal and political action would be taken.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, calling Bajwa’s remark a “highly unfortunate statement,” said that Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. is a personality who rose out of poverty, cleared the civil services examination through hard work, became an E.T.O. in the Punjab Allied Services, and, with a spirit of social service, resigned from his job to join the Aam Aadmi Party. The Aam Aadmi Party gave him respect and made him a minister. But today, Pratap Singh Bajwa has used extremely derogatory words against him, which is an insult to the entire Dalit community.

Cheema said that the Congress party is an anti-Dalit party. All Dalit ministers are on the Congress party’s target. Sometimes under some pretext, sometimes by taking names, sometimes calling them “material,” and now calling them “band players.” Using such language against Dalits is extremely unfortunate.

Finance Minister Cheema said in a stern tone that either Pratap Singh Bajwa and the entire Congress party must apologize to the Dalit community within 24 hours, or be prepared for strict action. He said this is a very big insult to the Dalit community of Punjab. It is a matter that discourages children who move ahead through hard work in Punjab.

Cheema further said that many Congress leaders are repeatedly targeting Dalits and Scheduled Caste–Scheduled Tribe people of Punjab and insulting them in public rallies. The Aam Aadmi Party is the first party that neither looked at poverty nor wealth, but brought forward the people who wanted to serve. Today there are 95 MLAs in Punjab, many of whom come from humble backgrounds and poor households. Insult on the basis of caste will not be tolerated by Dalits of Punjab, nor by Dalits of the country. The Congress party will be taught a lesson.

Forest Minister Lal Chand Kataruchakk, while strongly condemning Bajwa’s statement, said that this is not a new remark by Pratap Singh Bajwa. From time to time, he targets leaders who rise from among workers and Dalits. Earlier too, he has made many comments against Dalit leaders.

Also referred to the remark “Arbi Ghode and Desi Tattu*

Referring to Bajwa’s earlier comment, Kataruchakk said that Bajwa had even said about Dalit leaders of his own party, “If instead of Arab horses you make “desi tattu” run, then this will be the condition in elections.” This clearly reflects that Congress has never given deserving space to top Dalit leaders to move ahead.

Mentioning a historical incident, Kataruchakk said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Baba Saheb, who is revered by the entire country and especially by the Dalit community, had his own P.A. targeted by Congress and fielded against Baba Saheb in elections. The entire Congress party went to campaign against Baba Saheb at that time and did despicable acts to prevent him from entering Parliament. This is a long history of Congress’s anti-Dalit mindset.

Kataruchak said that these people sometimes call someone a mobile repairer, sometimes a band player. We are working people. We share happiness by playing music at people’s celebrations.

Addressing Bajwa directly, he said that you are afflicted with a feudal mindset. You do not want any leader emerging from among workers to move ahead on the land of Punjab. Referring to the Guru Sahib’s bani “Rangrete Guru ke bete,” he said that you do not even have shame for the principles and traditions of the Gurus, that the people whom the Gurus embraced, you are using such words against them.

Kataruchak warned that abandon this mindset, otherwise in 2027 people will teach a lesson. E.T.O. Sahib’s father played the band, worked hard, laboured, and made his son an E.T.O. He may be more educated than you. Instead of his education, you are mocking his profession. This will not be tolerated by the people of Punjab, nor by the Dalit community, nor by any conscious person of Punjab.

AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said that Bajwa’s vulgar remark points to how much hatred Punjab Congress leaders carry in their minds about the Dalit community. They are calling Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O. a “band player.” Can a hardworking family not reach such a position through hard work?

Pannu said that the minds of Congress are filled only with this kind of thinking and they looted Punjab with this mentality. Now that hardworking people from ordinary homes are moving ahead, they are troubled. He is calling these leaders a mobile repairer, a band player, or referring to them as “material.”

Addressing Bajwa directly, Pannu said: remove the filth filled inside your mind and do not make vulgar remarks against any community. Be prepared for further action as per the law.

Pannu said with pride that Harbhajan Singh E.T.O.’s family is a hardworking family. If at some point his family had a band business, then it is a matter of pride that rising from such a family, E.T.O. Sahib has reached the post of Cabinet Minister.

Taking forward the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana, devotees from village Nimbua in the Dera Bassi Assembly constituency were flagged off for darshan at Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib (Sri Harmandir Sahib). As per official information, industrial development will be carried out across 56,662 acres under BIDA, marking one of the largest planned industrial expansions in Bundelkhand. CM Yogi Adityanath: Major Investments to Boost Defence and Heavy Industries

A significant highlight of the plan is the proposed ₹600 crore investment by BEML, which will lead to the establishment of defence and heavy industry units in the region. Officials say this will not only strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem but also create large-scale direct and indirect employment opportunities for local youth.

To support the upcoming industrial expansion, the state government is also strengthening core infrastructure in Bundelkhand, including roads, power supply, water availability, and digital connectivity. Officials said that dedicated industrial infrastructure will ensure ease of doing business and attract both domestic and global investors to the region.

Logistics Infrastructure to Strengthen Connectivity

To support industrial operations and streamline supply chains, a 100-acre multi-modal logistics park will also be developed under BIDA. The logistics park is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce transportation costs, and attract ancillary industries, further boosting Bundelkhand’s economic prospects.

The Uttar Pradesh government said the industrial expansion will play a crucial role in generating employment, improving infrastructure, and driving overall regional development. Punjab Police on Day 343 of its statewide anti-drug अभियान ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ intensified its crackdown against drug trafficking, arresting 95 drug smugglers across multiple districts of the state. The operation was conducted under the supervision of @ANTFPunjab, reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.

During the coordinated raids, police teams recovered a significant quantity of contraband, including 12.3 kg of heroin, 160 kg of poppy husk, 321 intoxicant tablets and capsules, along with ₹2,640 in drug money. Officials said the seizures highlight the continued pressure on drug supply networks operating in Punjab.

Focus on Rehabilitation Alongside Enforcement

Apart from enforcement action, Punjab Police also emphasized rehabilitation and de-addiction. As part of the same drive, 29 individuals were motivated to join de-addiction and rehabilitation programmes, reflecting the government’s dual approach of strict action against smugglers and support for those battling substance abuse.

Over 48,000 Drug Smugglers Arrested So Far

With the latest arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested during the 343-day campaign has reached 48,096, marking one of the most sustained anti-narcotics operations in the state’s history. Senior officials said the campaign has disrupted major supply chains and reduced the availability of drugs at the street level.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has repeatedly asserted that the fight against drugs remains a top priority. Dhanda pointed out that the Surajkund Mela was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, making the incident even more serious. He stated that when an event of such scale and visibility witnesses a safety lapse, it reflects poorly on governance and oversight mechanisms. “This shows that the government is overlooking negligence at critical public events,” he said.

The AAP leader demanded strict action against the officers and agencies responsible for safety management at the mela. He added that fixing accountability is essential to prevent such incidents in the future, especially when lakhs of visitors, including families and tourists from across the country and abroad, attend the Surajkund Mela every year.

The incident has once again brought the issue of public safety at fairs and mass gatherings into focus, with opposition leaders calling for an immediate review of safety protocols and infrastructure at the venue.
