He added, “The payments deposited into our accounts have greatly increased farmers’ enthusiasm. Earlier, payments used to arrive in smaller instalments over time. Now farmers have received their dues directly in their accounts, which has encouraged many of us to move beyond wheat and paddy and expand sugarcane cultivation.”

He added, “If sugarcane payments continue to be made in this manner, farmers will be highly motivated to cultivate more sugarcane and remain associated with the mills. The mill has brought tremendous relief and strengthened the confidence of farmers.”

Appreciating the contribution of the mill staff, Lakhbir Singh said, “The officers and employees of the mill have worked with great dedication and helped make it one of the best-performing mills. Their efforts have played a major role in achieving these results.”

Praising the Chief Minister’s initiative, he added, “CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has provided tremendous relief to farmers by ensuring that payments reach them directly and on time. This has strengthened farmers’ trust and encouraged them to continue cultivating sugarcane.”

The Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday took a key step to strengthen the state’s election machinery ahead of the forthcoming Punjab Legislative Assembly elections by approving an amendment to the Service Rules of the Election Department. The decision removes long-pending administrative bottlenecks, facilitates the smooth and hassle-free Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and paves the way for filling crucial vacancies to ensure adequate manpower for election-related work. The Cabinet also approved the Annual Administrative Report of the Department of Water Resources for 2025-26.

The decisions were taken during a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann here today.

Sharing details of the decision, the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Cabinet has approved an amendment to the Service Rules of the Election Department by reducing the experience required for promotion from the post of Election Kanungo to Election Tehsildar from 15 years to 12 years.

The amendment was necessitated due to the existence of seven vacancies for the post of Election Tehsildar in the department. With the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the upcoming Punjab Legislative Assembly elections, the services of Election Tehsildars are required immediately to ensure smooth election-related work.

None of the presently serving Election Kanungoes are eligible for promotion under the existing rules, which require 15 years of experience. The Department has proposed reducing the required experience to 12 years so that eligible Election Kanungoes can be promoted in the near future and the vacant posts can be filled to strengthen the election machinery.

Annual Administrative Report of Water Resources Department approved

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved the Annual Administrative Report of the Department of Water Resources for the year 2025-26.

The approval of the report will facilitate the documentation and review of the department’s administrative functioning and achievements during the financial year.

CBSE: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his criticism of the CBSE’s Class 12 revaluation process, raising concerns over alleged flaws in the evaluation system and the financial burden placed on students seeking corrections.

In a strongly worded social media post, Gandhi questioned why students are being charged to rectify mistakes that may have occurred during the assessment process. He accused the examination board of turning student grievances into a source of revenue.

“Beware of pickpockets — today they’re sitting inside CBSE. If marks come out wrong due to CBSE’s mistake, what do you get? A bill,” Gandhi wrote.

Highlighting the costs involved, he pointed out that students are required to pay ₹100 per subject to access digitally scanned answer sheets, ₹100 per paper for re-totalling, and ₹25 for every question submitted for re-evaluation. According to him, the total expense can reach nearly ₹2,000 for some students who simply want their papers checked accurately.

‘Students Are Paying for Others’ Mistakes’

Rahul Gandhi also questioned the scale of earnings generated through the revaluation process, noting that around four lakh students had reportedly applied for verification and reassessment.

“The mistake is CBSE’s. The punishment is the child’s. The earnings are the government’s,” he said, arguing that students are unfairly bearing the consequences of administrative lapses.

Allegations Over Answer Sheet Scanning

The Congress MP further alleged that CBSE had diluted technical standards for answer-sheet digitisation. He claimed that while the board’s May 2025 tender required answer books to be scanned using automated robotic scanners at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI, a revised tender later relaxed those conditions and reduced the resolution requirement to 200 DPI.

Referring to reports that answer sheets were allegedly scanned using mobile phones, Gandhi said the issue was not an isolated error but the result of a flawed system.

“Now we know what that meant in practice. It has been exposed that COEMPT scanned the answer sheets using mobile phones,” he alleged.

Gandhi argued that complaints regarding blurred images, missing pages, and incomplete scans were predictable outcomes of such practices and described the matter as a serious fraud affecting students.

The Congress leader also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that while the Prime Minister had recently spoken publicly about mangoes, he had not addressed concerns surrounding the alleged scanning of answer sheets belonging to nearly 18.5 lakh students.

Ahead of World Environment Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged citizens to strengthen their commitment to environmental conservation, emphasizing the deep connection between nature and India’s cultural traditions.

In a message addressed to the people of the state, the Chief Minister said that Sanatan culture has long regarded trees, rivers, mountains, animals, and natural elements as sacred. Referring to Vedic traditions, he noted that the worship of nature has been considered equivalent to the worship of the divine.

Water Protection and Environmental Responsibility

Adityanath stated that World Environment Day should not be viewed merely as an annual observance but as an opportunity to express collective gratitude toward nature and renew efforts to protect the environment.

He said that trees are not merely natural resources but symbols of life, knowledge, health, welfare, and spirituality. Highlighting cultural practices such as Vat Savitri Vrat, Chhath, and the Maha Kumbh, he pointed to the long-standing relationship between Indian society and nature.

The Chief Minister stressed that conservation of forests, water resources, and rivers has become increasingly important in the face of environmental challenges. He noted that Uttar Pradesh now has 12 Ramsar sites with the inclusion of Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary and cited the success of the state’s “One District One River” initiative as an example of how coordinated efforts can contribute to ecological restoration.

Calling upon the youth to play a leading role in environmental protection, Adityanath encouraged participation in water conservation, cleanliness drives, tree plantation campaigns, and river rejuvenation efforts. He also appealed to children to plant and nurture at least one tree on their birthdays or other special occasions.

Reiterating the importance of sustainable development, the Chief Minister said that a safe, clean, and prosperous environment forms the foundation of a developed state and urged citizens to take a collective pledge to protect nature on the occasion of World Environment Day.
