The Hon. Vice President of Bharat, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, today launched five major initiatives spanning youth development, entrepreneurship, sustainability, consciousness studies, and education at The Art of Living International Center, as the organisation marked 45 years of humanitarian service and making and Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s lifelong contribution to peace, well-being, and human values, as he turned 70 this month.

The Hon. Vice President also joined dignitaries in unveiling a commemorative postal stamp marking 45 years of The Art of Living’s contribution to individual well-being, social transformation, and global peace.

The initiatives launched include the Youth Career Excellence Program, Faculty of Eastern Knowledge Systems, Art of Living Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation, Centre of Excellence on Consciousness Studies and Human Potential, and Eco Shanti, reflecting the organisation’s expanding focus on education, innovation, environmental sustainability, and human development.

The launch ceremony formed the culmination of month-long celebrations at The Art of Living International Center attended by 678 distinguished guests, including national leaders from across the political spectrum, business icons, sportspersons, entrepreneurs, academicians, faith leaders, diplomats, artists, and social changemakers from India and around the world.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon. Vice President reflected on the extraordinary global reach of the movement founded by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

“Today is a celebration of a great vision that has touched millions of lives across continents. I was astonished to learn that The Art of Living is present in 182 countries. Almost the entire civilization of mankind is getting linked through this movement,” he said.

Describing the organisation’s journey, he added, “Forty-five years ago, a movement began with a simple yet profound idea: that inner peace is the foundation of outer harmony. In a world marked by conflict and uncertainty, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar continues to inspire humanity with the values of wisdom, awareness, peace, and harmony.”

Praising Gurudev’s simplicity and impact, Shri Radhakrishnan remarked, “His smile, his humility, and his affection touch everyone’s heart. What makes his contribution extraordinary is the humility and humanity he embodies.”

Welcoming the Hon. Vice President, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar emphasized the timeless relevance of inner development in addressing contemporary challenges.

“The world today has recognized that meditation is no longer a luxury. With 192 countries coming together to declare World Meditation Day, there is a growing understanding that meditation is a basic necessity for a healthy, happy, and stress-free life,” Gurudev said.

Calling for a holistic approach to human development, he added, “Three things must always accompany us through life: knowledge, meditation, and music.”

Gurudev concluded with a message of global harmony, saying, “Let us dream of a Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, one world family free from fear, tension, and hatred. A peaceful and harmonious world begins with peaceful and harmonious individuals.”

The Hon. Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot, also addressed the gathering and highlighted Karnataka’s deep connection with the organisation’s origins.

“It is a matter of pride for Karnataka that the roots of this global movement are connected to our sacred land. For more than four decades, The Art of Living has been promoting peace and well-being at the individual, community, and global levels through a variety of programs,” he said.

Highlighting Gurudev’s contribution to peacebuilding, the Governor added, “Beyond humanitarian service, Gurudev’s peace-building efforts have played a significant role in resolving long-standing conflicts. His vision of a violence-free and stress-free society through the revival of human values has received appreciation and recognition across the world.”

The five initiatives launched during the event seek to address some of the most pressing needs of contemporary society through education, innovation, sustainability, and human development.

The Youth Career Excellence Program will prepare young people for careers in the civil services while also providing industry-oriented hospitality training to enhance employability among rural and urban youth.

The Faculty of Eastern Knowledge Systems will serve as a multidisciplinary platform integrating Eastern wisdom traditions with contemporary education and research, addressing modern ethical, social, and ecological challenges.

The Art of Living Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation initiative aims to nurture innovation-driven and hardware-focused startups through mentorship, prototyping facilities, and early-stage funding support, with a vision to enable 500 startups.

The Centre of Excellence on Consciousness Studies and Human Potential will create an interdisciplinary ecosystem for research, education, and innovation in consciousness, cognition, mental well-being, and human potential.

Eco Shanti, a sustainability initiative of The Art of Living, aims to eliminate single-use plastics through sustainable alternatives, with a target of reducing plastic production and usage by at least 100,000 tonnes annually by 2030.

During his visit to the Ashram, the Hon. Vice President toured various facilities and initiatives of the organisation. He visited Sri Sri Gurukulam, interacted with students, offered prayers at the Prathap Ganpati Temple, took darshan of the sacred relics of Shri Somnath Jyotirlingam, and visited the Sri Sri Gaushala, home to nearly 1,600 indigenous cows.

A special highlight of the visit was a demonstration by practitioners of The Art of Living’s Intuition Program, where children showcased intuitive abilities developed through systematic training and practice.

For nearly a month, The Art of Living International Center welcomed people from every walk of life, reflecting the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — One World Family.

The NEET-UG 2026 exam, held on May 3 for over 2.27 million aspirants for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses, was cancelled on May 12 after investigations revealed overlaps between a pre-circulated guess paper and the actual question paper. The scandal was first exposed by an unlikely whistleblower — a chemistry teacher from Sikar in Rajasthan, Shashikant Suthar, who saw a PDF doing the rounds on phones as a “guess paper” and realised the questions and the order of the options were the same as the official paper. Later investigations found that guess papers being circulated on encrypted platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram were matching more than 100 questions of the actual exam.

Supreme Court Sends Clear Message to NTA

The issue soon came before India’s Supreme Court. The Supreme Court expressed serious concern over the functioning of the NTA, saying it was “sad” that the agency had not learned lessons from the earlier paper leak episode. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) had filed a writ petition seeking directions from the court to the government to replace or overhaul the NTA and put in place a secure, transparent and technologically robust mechanism for conducting NEET examinations. The association called for a high-powered monitoring committee comprising a retired Supreme Court judge, cybersecurity experts and forensic specialists to oversee the re-conduct of the examination.

Government Security Plan For June 21

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level review meeting and directed officials to fill all the loopholes found in the previous examination and ensure that the re-exam is held under strict and foolproof security arrangements. The NTA has been asked to strengthen the monitoring systems and work in close coordination with the district administrations and police authorities in each state. On the reform front, the agency said, NEET-UG will move to Computer-Based Test mode from next year, a landmark change in India’s largest medical entrance examination system.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Thursday said that India’s removal from the list of the world’s Top-15 economies for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) confidence reflects the deepening crisis of investor trust under the BJP-led Central Government. Referring to the latest FDI Confidence Index rankings, The Finance Minister stated that while India was ranked among the world’s Top-10 investment destinations in 2016, it has now slipped completely out of the Top-15 list in 2026.

Citing the global rankings, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the development exposes the stark gap between the BJP Government’s publicity-driven claims and the actual condition of the Indian economy. In a post on X, he stated, “India was once among the world’s top destinations for foreign investment. In 2016, India ranked among the Top-10 economies for global FDI confidence. Today, India is not even in the Top-15.”

The Finance Minister remarked that foreign investors are increasingly looking at alternative economies because confidence in India’s investment environment has weakened significantly over the last decade. “Investors are losing confidence. MoUs remain on paper, the investment climate has weakened, policy uncertainty is rising and trade deals are being signed from a position of compromise rather than strength,” he noted.

He further asserted that the BJP Government has consistently prioritised image management over meaningful economic reforms. “Despite all the tall claims of ‘Amrit Kaal’, the reality is that foreign investors are looking elsewhere while the BJP Government continues with headline management instead of real economic reforms,” he asserted.

Aman Arora Hits Back Strongly at Ravneet Bittu’s Remarks

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora strongly refuted all allegations levelled by Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu and hit back sharply at him. Arora stated that while the AAP and the Punjab Government were committed to ensuring peaceful and fair municipal elections across the state, the kind of hooliganism and unruly conduct displayed by Ravneet Singh Bittu in Dhuri and Sangrur was completely unacceptable and unbecoming of a person holding a constitutional position.

He said that when our party and I raised ideological questions against this hooliganism, instead of answering those questions, Bittu crossed all limits of decency. He stooped to completely below-the-belt politics and started cheap mudslinging at me and my late father.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Aman Arora said that our ideological question was straightforward, on one hand, you grab Punjab Police personnel and officers by their collars and call them “dalal” and “gunda.” If you think Punjab Police is so bad, then why did you, during the Congress government in 2017, bypass all rules and laws to get your brother Gur Iqbal Singh Honey directly appointed as DSP?

Even today, your brother is drawing salary from the Punjab treasury and from the taxes paid by the people of Punjab. Cornering Bittu further, he said that I have immense respect for your grandfather Sardar Beant Singh Ji, during whose tenure as Chief Minister my father was an MLA. But the question is, if you could change laws only for your brother, then why did you not get DSP jobs for the rest of 17 police personnel and common citizens martyred in that bomb blast? Did their families not sacrifice too? You ignored the law only for the selfish interests of your own family while the other victim families are still struggling.

Launching a sharp attack over Bittu calling him a “party-hopper,” the Cabinet Minister said, “Bittu Ji, before joining the Aam Aadmi Party, I was in the same Congress party where you were. I left Congress in 2016 for principles, but you abandoned Congress in 2024 after seeing your defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and ran to the BJP purely out of greed for power. The only difference is that the people rejected you even after that.”

He said that despite losing, you still became a minister at the Centre, but your language has now become so cheap that the whole of Punjab is condemning it.

Responding to Bittu calling him a “kaput” (unworthy son), Arora said that whether a son is worthy or unworthy, you will have to go up and ask my late father, or else come to Sunam tomorrow and ask my mother, who has been bedridden at Fortis Hospital after surgery for the past one-and-a-half months.

Becoming highly emotional and aggressive over Bittu’s remarks regarding the death of his late father Shri Bhagwan Dass Arora Ji, Aman Arora revealed that my father committed suicide due to depression, there is no doubt about that. But why was he in depression? He left this world deeply hurt because of the same person whose written papers you were parroting and reading out in your press conference yesterday.

He said that our respected brother-in-law Rajinder Deepa left no stone unturned in destroying our entire family. In 2002, he disturbed the atmosphere of our home. In the 2007 and 2012 elections, he himself contested against me so that I would not become an MLA, and even today he continues to harass the entire family while living in his in-laws’ home. Arora said that Bittu Ji, leaders who appear sensible like you have become pawns of a person who, instead of becoming something in life himself, only worked towards destroying other people’s homes.

Responding to Bittu’s other allegations, Aman Arora said that at Rajinder Deepa’s instigation, you are accusing me of forging signatures in transport matters and quoting dates. I want to ask, 15-20 years ago, when our transport business was running, was Bittu Ji the manager there, the driver, or the conductor that he has such detailed knowledge?

Clarifying the matter related to the court case and punishment, he said that when Rajinder Deepa and his associates attacked my mother, I defended her, and the stitch marks are still visible on my head today. If I have to face punishment for protecting my mother, I have no regret. But your mentor Deepa Ji did not tell you that he and my sister Sonia together got not only me sentenced, but also our 85-year-old elderly mother was sentenced. Punjab’s people know very well who is “worthy son” and who is “worthy son-in-law”.

Countering allegations about living in a rented house in Chandigarh, Aman Arora said, “Bittu Ji, whether I lived on rent in Chandigarh, in my own house, or even on the road after leaving Sunam, I never illegally occupied a government bungalow for years without paying rent like you did. When you needed an NOC from the Punjab Government to contest elections and had to clear Rs 2 crore of pending government bungalow rent, everyone saw how loudly you cried then. Wherever I have lived, I have lived with self-respect and dignity.”

Responding to questions raised on his character, he said that if anyone wants to see my character, they should ask the people of Sunam, who gave me a historic victory margin of 75,277 votes in 2022, one of the biggest in Punjab’s electoral history. That is the stamp of the people. I do not need a character certificate from Bittu or Deepa.

Rejecting allegations of grabbing land in collusion with builders in Ludhiana during his tenure in the Housing Department, Aman Arora threw an open challenge to the Union Minister. He said, “Bittu Ji, your time, your day, and your place. Forget just Ludhiana, anywhere in Punjab, if during my tenure as minister even one inch of land was grabbed, or even purchased improperly, come and point it out, and I will transfer that land in your name today itself. Stop indulging in such nonsense and cheap politics.”

Aman Arora said that today his entire family, his mother, his other sister, and his brother’s family, all stand united with him. He added that Bittu Ji is fortunate to have got a good brother-in-law and family like Vikram Mofar who stood by him, but we were unfortunate to get a person like Deepa who always worked to break the family apart.

After my father’s death, I had to fight family, social, and political battles for 17 years before I could finally put the three letters “MLA” before my name. I pray to God that neither Bittu Ji’s family nor even the family of an enemy should ever face a time where someone is driven to suicide. If Bittu Ji still has doubts, he should come to Sunam tomorrow itself and meet my ailing mother, or come anywhere in Punjab and speak to me directly regarding the land allegations.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday strongly criticised BJP’s Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu over his conduct with Punjab Police officers in Dhuri, stating that his behaviour had crossed all limits of decency and exposed the BJP leader’s arrogance and disrespect towards security forces.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said Ravneet Singh Bittu publicly misbehaved with Punjab Police officials while cameras were rolling and even used derogatory words like “dalal” against officers. He stated that such behaviour from a Union Minister was completely unacceptable and irresponsible.

Baltej Pannu said whether it is Punjab Police, Central Armed Forces, or the Indian Army, every security force deserves respect because they work day and night to protect citizens. “Targeting an entire force and attempting to lower its morale for political drama is extremely dangerous. Security personnel risk their lives for the safety of people and they should never be insulted in this manner,” he said.

Taking strong exception to Ravneet Singh Bittu’s remarks that Punjabis abuse police personnel whenever checkpoints are installed, Baltej Pannu said the statement was deeply insulting not only to Punjab Police but also to the people of Punjab. “Punjab Police personnel, particularly younger officers, have transformed public dealing and are discharging their duties professionally for public safety,” he added.

Highlighting the work of the Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF), Baltej Pannu said accident victims today receive immediate assistance within minutes because of the dedicated efforts of Punjab Police personnel. “Whenever people face theft, attacks, accidents, or emergencies, the very first call they make is to the police and not to abuse them. Honest citizens feel safer when police checkpoints are installed. Only criminals and anti-social elements have a problem with police checking,” he added.

Baltej Pannu further questioned Ravneet Singh Bittu’s silence after the controversy erupted and said the Union Minister failed to answer the questions raised by AAP leaders in earlier press conferences. Instead of responding to serious concerns, he resorted to personal attacks, he added.

Cornering Ravneet Singh Bittu further, Baltej Pannu raised the issue of the recruitment of Bittu’s brother as DSP in Punjab Police during the Congress government in 2017. He claimed that multiple eligibility norms, including age criteria, educational qualifications, and recruitment procedures, were altered to facilitate the appointment. “If Ravneet Singh Bittu believes Punjab Police is so bad and claims Punjabis hate the force, then why did he go to such extraordinary lengths to get his own family member recruited into the same department?” Baltej Pannu questioned.

Contrasting previous governments with the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, Baltej Pannu stated that more than 65,000 government jobs have been provided purely on the basis of merit without bribery, corruption, or recommendations. He challenged opposition leaders to present even a single example of recruitment through corruption under the current Punjab Government.

Demanding an unconditional apology, Baltej Pannu said Ravneet Singh Bittu must apologise to the entire Punjab Police force, especially Sub-Inspector and SSP Navjot Kaur, against whom he used inappropriate language during the confrontation. “Punjab Police officers earn their positions through hard work, education, competitive examinations, and the sacrifices of their families, not through special rule changes and political influence,” he asserted.
