Highlighting the work of the Bhagwant Mann government, the AAP Punjab Prabhari pointed out, “The work being done for farmers, including ensuring water for agriculture, along with improvements in education and healthcare, free electricity and financial assistance for women, is before the people of Punjab. Leaders in other parties are thinking that the AAP is the only hope left for taking Punjab forward. Under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab can continue to progress.”

Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Sanmeek Singh Hanry said, “The leaders and workers who have joined AAP have spent a long time with the Congress. AAP is the only party where volunteers and grassroots workers are valued and respected.”

The new entrants said they were joining the AAP with the belief that the party provides greater respect and opportunities to grassroots workers and remains committed to the development and progress of Punjab.

75% Of Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana Mental-Health Beneficiaries Are Aged 18–45, Highlighting Need For Timely Care Among Working-Age Population

Balbir Singh

A serious health condition does not only affect a person’s wellbeing; it can place an enormous emotional and financial burden on an entire family. When the illness is related to mental health, stigma, lack of awareness and concerns over treatment costs can create additional barriers, often delaying the decision to seek professional help.

Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana (MMSY) is helping address one part of that challenge by making covered mental-health treatment financially accessible. Data from the State Health Agency (SHA), Punjab, as of August 11, 2026, shows that in the available seven-month period, 709

beneficiaries received mental-health treatment under the scheme, involving treatment worth ₹83.36 lakh.

The age profile provides a particularly significant insight. 284 beneficiaries treated cashless under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana were aged 31–45, while 249 were aged 18–30. Together, these two groups account for 533 beneficiaries, or 75.2 per cent of the total.

On this, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said, “Mental healthcare should not become a luxury that a family seeks only when it can afford it. If someone needs professional help, the focus should be on getting that person the right care at the right time.”

The SHA data also shows that Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana is addressing a range of mental-health conditions, including neurotic and stress-related disorders, mood and affective disorders, behavioural syndromes associated with physiological and physical factors, and mental and behavioural disorders linked to psychoactive substance use. The treatment pattern highlights the importance of addressing both common mental-health conditions and those associated with substance use.

Dr Gagandeep Sekhon, MD Psychiatry, Consultant Psychiatrist, Civil Hospital Barnala, said, “The 18–45 age group is particularly important from a mental-health perspective because this is the phase when people are building careers, managing relationships, raising families and handling significant financial responsibilities.”

Dr Gagandeep Sekhon added, “Mental health concerns are often ignored until they begin to interfere with daily functioning, by which time they are harder to manage.”

The SHA data also highlights the close relationship between mental health and substance use, making Punjab’s Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign particularly relevant to the state’s broader mental-health response. Substance dependence can have psychological, behavioural and social consequences and may require sustained professional treatment, de-addiction and rehabilitation. The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana data included psychoactive substance-use disorders and mood disorders, which points to the importance of early awareness, timely intervention and accessible treatment pathways for young people.

At the same time, prevention and healthy living can complement clinical treatment.

Minister Dr Balbir Singh shared, “The Bhagwant Mann-led government has been working towards making healthcare more accessible and affordable for every family in Punjab, with special attention to the health and wellbeing of our youth. With a ₹10 lakh cashless cover per family per year, and mental healthcare also covered under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, the scheme helps remove the financial hesitation many people face when seeking treatment for mental-health conditions. Alongside this, ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ strengthens prevention, de-addiction and rehabilitation, while CM Di Yogshala promotes accessible wellness practices.”

Together, The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, Yudh Nashean Virudh and CM Di Yogshala represent complementary parts of Punjab’s mental-health response; from prevention and healthy living to de-addiction, rehabilitation and access to professional treatment. With more than three out of every four beneficiaries in the available Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana data belonging to the 18–45 age group, making timely mental healthcare accessible could be particularly important for protecting the health, productivity and wellbeing of Punjab’s working-age population.

Punjab Honours Grassroots Volunteers Of ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ On Independence Day

Punjab news

The Bhagwant Mann government felicitated members of Village and Ward Defence Committees for their contribution to the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ on the occasion of Independence Day. The felicitation ceremonies have kicked off a structured fortnight-long action and review process concluding with a state-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on 31st August.

To integrate the Bhagwant Mann government’s initiative across all levels of government, Yudh Nashean Virudh activities will be front and centre in all celebrations around National Days and other significant government occasions. A decision to this effect was taken at the state-level function held on August 2 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

As part of this initiative, outstanding members of the Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Ward Defence Committees (WDCs) were felicitated across the state for their exemplary contribution to Punjab’s fight against drugs. The recognition serves as an important platform for those working at the community level to make Punjab a drug-free state.

At the district level, Deputy Commissioners honoured Assembly Coordinators and Vice Assembly Coordinators, while at the sub-division level, Sub-Divisional Magistrates felicitated Block Coordinators.

At the village level, special programmes were organised at various schools and panchayats, where sarpanches and community members recognised VDC members for their efforts towards building a drug-free Punjab.

The Deputy Commissioners of all 23 districts were directed to identify deserving VDC and WDC members in recognition of their contribution and active participation in furthering the objectives of Yudh Nashean Virudh.

The felicitation drive is part of a larger plan issued by the Office of the State Nodal Officer for the Anti-Drug Campaign that envisages a detailed fortnight-long campaign designed to turn community feedback into regular administrative and police reviews.

From August 16 to 25, VDC meetings will be held in every village. During these meetings, the committees will review any complaints about drug trafficking, examine the action taken by the police and administration on earlier complaints, track pending cases and provide fresh feedback.

The exercise will then move to the district level. Between August 26 and 29, cabinet ministers will chair district-level review meetings involving administration and police officials, health department representatives and district, assembly and block-level coordinators. The meetings will examine the feedback received from villages and determine further action.

The entire exercise will conclude with a state-level review meeting on August 31 to be chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In this meeting, the government will assess district-wise progress and chalk out the plan for the next phase of the campaign.

With Independence Day serving as the first major platform for recognising members of the community who are at the forefront of the anti-drug campaign, the government is turning the campaign into a sustained people-led movement against drugs rather than limiting it to an enforcement initiative.

‘An Absolute Overreach’ Inside Story of How CJI Surya Kant Championed Free Speech and Saved Graduating Lawyers from Arbitrary BCI Action, Check

CJI- Surya- Kant
Google

CJI Surya Kant: What began as a student objection to a convocation guest spiralled into a constitutional flashpoint, until a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant intervened to pull the Bar Council of India back from the brink.

How the Row Began

Around seventy NALSAR graduates objected to CJI Surya Kant attending their convocation as chief guest, citing his earlier oral remarks on student protests. The BCI responded by freezing enrolment of the entire 2026 graduating batch on Thursday, before narrowing the order on Friday to target only alleged “instigators,” and finally withdrawing it altogether by Friday morning.

The Court Steps In

Amid the confusion, a bench led by CJI Surya Kant issued notice to the BCI and restrained all state bar councils from taking punitive action against NALSAR students. The bench held that students have a fundamental right to protest peacefully, and that a regulatory body had no business interfering in what was essentially an internal university matter.

University Pushes Back Too

NALSAR Vice-Chancellor Srikrishna Deva Rao said the university would examine whether the BCI’s demand for an inquiry even fell within its constitutional powers under local governance regulations, adding institutional weight to the students’ objections.

BCI’s Retreat

Announcing the final climbdown, BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra urged graduates to “voice your opinions freely, but with respect and institutional decorum,” calling the top judicial office the country’s “collective pride.”

The episode adds to CJI Surya Kant’s track record on free expression, from his past rulings safeguarding the right to speech in politically sensitive cases to keeping India’s sedition law in abeyance.

Batwara 1947 Vs Awarapan 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Emraan Hashmi’s Film Out Performs Sunny Deol’s Period Drama By Huge Margin, Check Numbers

Batwara 1947 Vs Awarapan 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: The box office clash between Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947, releasing on the same day after 19 years since Sunny Deol and Emraan Hashmi last locked horns with Apne and Awarapan in 2007, has turned one-sided by day 3.

Awarapan 2 Powers Ahead

Emraan Hashmi’s sequel opened at Rs 22 crore net on Friday, jumped to Rs 33.75 crore on Saturday riding the Independence Day holiday, and added Rs 17.80 crore on Sunday. That takes its three-day India net total to Rs 73.55 crore, with gross collections crossing Rs 87.90 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called the film’s Saturday numbers a “dhamakedaar” show, citing strong occupancy across Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.

Batwara 1947 Struggles to Keep Pace

Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s Partition-era drama opened more modestly at Rs 5.75 crore net on Friday, rose to Rs 13.50 crore on Saturday, but slipped to around Rs 5.47 crore on Sunday, a sharper decline than its rival’s. Its three-day net total stands near Rs 24.72 crore.

The Gap Widens

Batwara 1947 Vs Awarapan 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Awarapan 2 has now collected close to three times what Batwara 1947 has earned over the same three days, with the gap visible from opening day itself, when Hashmi’s film outpaced Deol’s by nearly four times. Industry trackers say nostalgia around the original Awarapan and stronger multiplex-to-single-screen spread have worked heavily in the sequel’s favour.

With Awarapan 2 eyeing the Rs 100 crore gross mark by the end of its opening weekend, attention now turns to Monday’s numbers to see whether Batwara 1947 can arrest its slide or if the gap widens further into the weekday run.

CJP Volunteer’s Father Death: Abdul Hafiz’s father has died two days after he was allegedly attacked at their home in Bankura’s Karisunda area, following his son’s participation in the CJP’s nationwide “School Thik Karo” campaign to inspect government school infrastructure.

What Sparked the Attack

Hafiz took part in the audit at his local government school on August 13, filming its condition with permission. The CJP alleges armed men identified as local BJP workers later forced their way into his residence, demanding he record a video apologising and claiming he had acted under outside influence. When he refused, the group allegedly assaulted him and his family. Hafiz reportedly suffered a serious neck injury, while his father sustained severe blunt-force trauma to the head. His father succumbed to those injuries at a Bankura government hospital on August 15.

CJP Reacts

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said:

“His father has died at the hands of goons who allegedly belong to the BJP. What was his crime? That he planned on conducting a social audit of his local government school. Abdul, the entire CJP family is with you.”

Co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka accused West Bengal Police of shielding the accused, while the party alleged no medico-legal case or FIR was filed after the initial assault.

Investigation and Next Steps

CJP Volunteer’s Father Death: Bankura police say suspects have been detained, with Hafiz’s mother expected to file a formal complaint. CJP has demanded an impartial probe into the assault, the death, and the alleged inaction by Indas police station, and confirmed a National Working Committee delegation will visit Bengal to meet the family.

With CJP already vocal on multiple Bengal flashpoints this month, pressure is building for street-level mobilisation unless swift arrests follow.

Jharkhand Protest: Deadlock In Sight? Govt Invites Students for Fresh Talks as CBI Probe Demand Remains Unresolved

Jharkhand- Protest
Google

The Jharkhand Protest against alleged irregularities in the recruitment examination is due for yet another vital round of talks with the state government having invited the protesting students for new talks on August 17. This follows six rounds of talks previously conducted which did not yield any result.

New Talks Hold Hope for a Breakthrough

The state government has invited student representatives for new talks at 2 p.m. in Ranchi. The students have been invited for the talks along with their lawyers as well. The new round of talks is being viewed as yet another attempt at sorting out the long-running dispute through talks.

Students Hold Their Ground on Core Demands

While the students had agreed to take part in the talks, they have also held the ground that their core demands do not change. They are calling for a probe by the CBI into irregularities in recruitment exams as well as cancellation of the JSSC-CGL exam. The agitation by the students has been going on for more than three weeks now, pointing towards the frustrations of those who want jobs regarding recruitment exam procedures. The previous round of talks held on August 9 did not end in any resolution.

Could This Meeting End the Jharkhand Protest?

This new round of talks could be significant for both parties involved. While the students are ready to seek an amicable solution via discussions, they have made it clear that they would not compromise on their core demands. With the Jharkhand Protest still ongoing and the government once again trying to resolve the matter through talks, all eyes will now be on whether the new round of talks can help reach some sort of understanding between the administration and agitating students.
