While everything these agencies probe, many private information related to the death of young actor have been surfacing on the internet. In such situation, it is obvious to raise questions on the privacy that these agency pledge to serve.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh informed the Bombay High Court that the agencies did not reveal anything at any given point of time. The high court was hearing a public interest litigations filed against media trial in reporting Bollywood actor Sushant Singh’s death.

The petition, filed by a group of retired police officers, raised concern on the sensitive information being broadcasted on media channels.

The petitioners questioned the autheticity and source of the information asking whether the investigating agency provided them with the detials of the case. The agencies, declining the claims, in their affadavits, said that they are aware of their responsibilites.

“We know our responsibilities and there is no question of leaking information by any of the agencies,” the ASG added.

The Union government, National Broadcasting Standards Authority, and the news channels which are involved in the case told the HC that the electronic media has their own regulatory board and any further control would be unnecessary.

“The media was neutral then (in the past). It is now highly polarised….This is not a question of regulation, this is a question of checks and balances. People forget where to draw lines. Do it within lines,” the judges hearing the case said.

Sudan becomes third Arab state to set aside hostilities with Israel this year

Israel and Sudan consented to take steps to regularize relations in a deal brokered with the help of the United States, making Khartoum the third Arab government to set aside hostilities with Israel in the last two months.

U.S. President Donald Trump, attempting re-election on Nov. 3, sealed the agreement in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and Transitional Council Head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, senior U.S. officials said.

Mr Netanyahu announced it as a “new era” for the region, but the Palestinian leadership, watching as more of their Arab brethren appear to give their quest for statehood a lower priority, called it a “new stab in the back”.

Israel and Sudan plan to begin by opening economic and trade links, with the first focus on agriculture, the joint statement said.

A senior US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said such topics as the formal establishment of diplomatic ties would be resolved later.

Trump announced on Monday he would take Sudan off the terrorism list once it had deposited $335 million it had pledged to pay in compensation. Khartoum has since placed the funds in a special escrow account for victims of al Qaeda attacks on US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998.

“We’re more than eight months into this crisis and the president still doesn’t have a plan,” said the former vice president.

Covid-19 vaccine update: AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson resume trials in US

Two major drug makers — AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson — have resumed trials for their experimental covid-19 vaccines in the United States on Friday after being paused for a short duration.

AstraZeneca’s vaccine candidate being developed with Oxford has resumed the trials in the US, where it was paused six weeks ago due to adverse effects in one of the participants.

“The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today authorized the restart in the US, following the resumption of trials in other countries in recent weeks,” the drugmaker said.

The trials of the vaccine candidate were suspended worldwide on September 6, but resumed shortly in Britain followed by South Africa, Brazil and Japan.

In a recent incident, a volunteer for the vaccine died in Brazil but the company said they would not stop trials as the volunteer was not given the shot.

Meanwhile, Johnson & Johnson trials were paused on October 12 after a man who received vaccine shot suffered a stroke which triggered infection. Later, the investigators found out that the said incident was not caused by vaccine shot.

The investigation examined volunteer’s medical records and as well as database of 100,000 people who received the same vaccination. While concluding, they said a “clear cause” of the illness could not be found, however, the company assured that it was not due to the vaccine.

“Based on the information gathered to date and the input of independent experts, the Company has found no evidence that the vaccine candidate caused the event,” J&J said in a statement.

In the process of vaccine trials, if any adverse events are reported, the testing is stopped immediately. Thereafter, an independent data and safety monitoring board investigates the case and determines if the trials should be resumed or not. They also determine whether the ill effects were likely caused by the vaccine.

The United States have been one of the worst-affected country by the Covid-19 pandemic. As of now, more than 223,000 Americans have died due to the novel virus.

Mumbai police registers FIR against Republic TV staff

The Mumbai Police on Friday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Republic TV’s editorial team for allegedly committing offences amounting to incitement, disaffection among members of the police force against Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and for defaming the Mumbai police’s image.

The FIR, registered at the N.M. Joshi Marg station, invokes sections of the Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act, 1922, and claims the editors and staff concerned “attempted to incite disaffection” among members of the police force and defamed Mumbai Police with the report.

“In a brazen abuse of office, the Mumbai Police has booked the ‘editorial staff and newsroom in-charge for the concerned report getting aired and others’.

This booking of all journalists if a news media organisation, left unchecked will have a chilling effect on democracy,” a statement released by the news channel read.

The FIR said that officials at the Social Media Lab found that on October 10, Republic TV telecast a show under the segment Biggest Story Tonight, with the caption: “Revolt Against Param Bir Singh? Senior officer part of the probe gives details”.

“For the first time in Indian history, an FIR has been filed against every editorial staff of a network. This means that 1000 employees of the Republic Media Network have been booked by the Mumbai police. They (Mumbai police) say ‘How can you air the Hansa report” and we said, ‘we will not reveal our sources’. Hence half an hour ago, Param Bir Singh instructed to file a case against all Republic editorial staff. The staff who are part of the production team, graphics team, promos team – we produce the news together. Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, let there be a one-on-one now,” said Arnab.

Incidentally, on October 22, Republic World website ran a story: “Revolt Brewing Within Mumbai Police Against Param Bir Singh; Officers Lash Out Off Record”.

The report said that a senior officer in the Mumbai Police had claimed that Singh was “bent on destroying the credibility of the force”, and admitted that the force was pursuing its chief’s agenda against Republic TV in the Television Rating Points scam case.

The news item telecast on October 10 also claimed that Singh has been tarnishing the image of the Mumbai Police and that his orders are not acceptable to junior officers, the Hindustan Times reported.

Staying in one place full time in the current season of the Indian Premier League can be boring, but it is definitely saving the players from the fatigue of the constant air travel that they had to face in India. This is the first time since 2009 that the IPL is being organized completely outside India.

Due to general elections in 2009, this league was organised in South Africa. At the same time, due to COVID-19, the 13th season of IPL is being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In UAE, matches are being played at only three places – Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Travel to these three places can be done by bus. Teams are also staying in the same hotel from beginning to end.

Chris Morris, an all-rounder from Royal Challengers Bangalore, says the experience has been fantastic, as it has kept him from constantly traveling. Morris said, “Traveling in India was the toughest in the last IPL seasons. IPL matches are difficult, but traveling is very tired. Your match ends late.

Speaking to the media in the UAE on Friday, Morris said, “You take a bath, get dressed well, because you have to feel good. After that you reach the airport in one to one and a half hours and the next one to two hours in the next match. It seems to go where it needs to be. “

Morris further said that it is good to stay in one place. In 2014 also due to general elections, 20 matches of IPL were held in UAE and even then players had said that it was good for them to travel less.
