Pakistan to remain on grey list of terror financing watchdog FATF

Pakistan will remain in FATF’s ‘grey’ list till February 2021 as it has failed to fulfil six key obligations of the global money laundering and terrorist financing watchdog that include failure to take action against two of India’s most wanted terrorists: Maulana Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed.

“Pakistan needs to do more on checking terror funding,” FATF president Marcus Pleyer said, adding that the country must “impose sanction and prosecute those involved in terror financing”.

Pakistan, which has not met six of the 27 points it had to fulfill, “needs to do more”, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said, according to sources. It said an on-site visit by the FATF would only be done once Islamabad fulfills all conditions and only then Pakistan will have the curbs lifted.

“Pakistan has completed 21 out of 27 items. It means that the world has become safer but six deficiencies need to be repaired. We give them a chance to repair their progress and if not then a country will be pushed to the blacklist,” the FATF said.

Pakistan was placed on the Paris based body’s grey list in June 2018 and given an action plan to implement. It has been two years and Islamabad continue to remain on the list since it failed to implement the action plan.

The FATF began its three-day virtual plenary meeting on October 21 (Wednesday) in which it reviewed Pakistan’s performance in implementation of the action plan recommended by it to choke channels of funding to the terror groups operating from the country.

India on October 22 (Thursday) had reiterated that Islamabad has not taken any action on terrorist it has been providing safe havens.

End Sars protest has changed Nigeria Forever

What started as a grass-roots movement to end police brutality in Africa’s most populous country has become a global phenomenon embraced by the world’s biggest celebrities: #EndSARS.

The protests began on 7 October with mostly young people demanding the scrapping of a notorious police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars).

SARS, as it is commonly known, has existed for nearly three decades. But over time, its critics say, the unit has developed a reputation for abusing its power.

The hashtag first surfaced in 2017 as activists in Nigeria sought to abolish a federal police unit called the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Although President Buhari said it had been dissolved on 11 October, the protests have carried on, and broadened to include demands for broader reforms in the way Nigeria is governed.

Manchester United star Odion Ighalo has become one of the latest celebrities to voice their support for protests against police brutality in Nigeria.

In a video on Twitter, the Nigerian striker called his country’s government “a shame to the world”.

It comes amid reports that several people have been shot dead or wounded during demonstrations in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos.

Officials initially denied anyone died and have promised an investigation.

It was the 24-year-old’s second protest – the first was against sexual violence back in June – and here she was again, on a Sunday blighted with heat, holding a haphazardly cut carton inked with “END SARS” to protest against police brutality.

The same words – calling out Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) – echoed through the crowd; protesters chanted it even when blasts of high-pressure water from the cannon hit them. Brought to her knees, Christian’s mind told her things could get worse but, inspired by those around her, she raised a defiant fist.

Film star and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan hits out at the political spectrum by saying instead of targeting the film industry they should help the flood-affected areas.

He said during elections MLA’s MP spends hundreds of crores, so why can’t they open their purse strings and donate at a time of economic distress. Meanwhile Pawan Kalyan donated Rs 1 crore in Telangana CM relief fund to help the flood-hit victims.

“If a film makes Rs 1 Cr, at most, Rs 58 lakh is what is shared among the stakeholders. The rest of it all goes up in the form of taxes. During elections, each MLA and MP candidate (of major parties) spends hundreds of crores. Why can’t they open their purse strings and donate, say, Rs 50 Cr at a time like this when economic distress is widespread? Contractors, etc. have got thousands of crores with them. Why are demands not placed on them for donations?” the ‘Vakeel Saab’ actor asked, turning into people’s ‘vakeel saab’.

Pawan also appreciated Akshay Kumar for donating Rs25 crores to PM-CARES and pitching every politicians to help the nation in a time of crisis.

Sindh cops defer leave after probe ordered into arrest of Sharif’s son-in-law

Pakistan’s Sindh Police chief has deferred his leave for 10 days after Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa ordered an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of former premier Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Muhammad Safdar.

In a series of tweets, Sindh Police said on Tuesday that the unfortunate incident that occurred on the night of 18/19 October caused “great heartache and resentment” within its ranks, referring to the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Sharif’s son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar on Monday.

The incident

Opposition parties have alleged that the Sindh police chief was reportedly forcibly taken away by paramilitary Frontier Corps from his home in Karachi in the wee hours of Monday and pressurised to order for the arrest of Safdar.

“As a result, IG Sindh decided to proceed on leave and subsequently all ranks decided that they would also apply for leave to protest the humiliation meted out to Sindh police. This was a spontaneous and heartfelt reaction and made on an individual rather than a collective basis, because every single member of the department felt an acute sense of disrespect,” it said.

Maryam Nawaz, on 20 October, claimed that her husband’s arrest was aimed at dividing the opposition’s anti-government alliance.

“Don’t blackmail me through my family and people around me. Come arrest me if you have courage,” The Express Tribune quoted Maryam as saying at a presser.

“Sindh chief minister also called me and said that he never expected that something like this would happen with me. I never thought even for a moment that PPP was behind this… They (PTI) thought they can drive a wedge between PDM – we know things like this would happen, we are ready as well,” she added.

Uttarakhand CM urges centre to approve CAMPA scheme worth Rs 262 crore

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Thursday met Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi and urged the Centre to approve the Rs 262 crore Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme.

Rawat pointed out that a high number of human-animal conflict cases were reported each year in Uttarakhand and animals like monkeys, boars and nilgai damaged the crops.

The CM added that wildlife rescue centres need to be set up in the hilly areas to prevent leopard attacks and to protect crops from wild animals.

He said that these centres should be defined as forestry activities. Javadekar gave his in-principle approval at the request of the chief minister.

As per the state government’s release, the Chief Minister during the meeting said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic 19 lakh people of Uttarakhand have come back to their state.

“The state government has taken several steps including the Mukhyamantri Swarojgar Yojana for their employment.

Under the CAMPA scheme, a plan has been made to employ 10,000 people. Uttarakhand has played an important role in the conservation of environment and biodiversity.

To effectively curb human-wildlife conflict and forestry in the state, a proposal for additional funds of Rs 262.49 cr has been sent to the Ministry of Forests, Government of India, under CAMPA for 2020-21,” the release said.

The results of the vaccine in the initial trial have raised hopes. Covaxin is the first indigenous corona virus vaccine. It has been created in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Bharat Biotech presented the Animal Challenge data along with the data for the first and second stage trials of the Corona vaccine. Bihar Assembly elections 2020 – PM Modi Gaya Rally

In Bihar, PM Modi today rallied in Sasaram, Gaya and then finally in Bhagalpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reached Bhagalpur at last, attacked the government job claim made by RJD.

He termed it as a bribe and said that there should be development in Bihar, who will ensure that investment comes. He asked whether he would do this to those who gave good governance or those who gave Jungle Raj.

The Prime Minister first rallied with the Chief Minister of the state Nitish Kumar at Sasaram in Bihar and lashed out at the opposition parties. PM Modi said that we took the decision of section 370, the NDA government took it but today these people are talking about reversing this decision. They are saying that if they come to power, article-370 will be implemented again. These people have never been concerned with your needs.

In the beginning of his speech, PM Modi praised Ram Vilas Paswan and paid him homage. But in this entire speech, he did not say anything about or against Chirag Paswan or LJP. In such a situation, Confusion remained intact on BJP’s stand regarding Chirag.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while targeting the opposition party, especially RJD, without name, said that the people of Bihar cannot forget the days when the sun was meant to be closed, everything stopped, it came to a standstill.

Today there is electricity, there are roads, there are lights and the biggest thing is the environment in which ordinary citizens of the state can live without fear, they can live. Those who have bribed lakhs of people from Bihar’s youth for government appointments, they are looking at Bihar in a seductive manner. The generation may have changed in Bihar today, but the youth of Bihar have to remember who was going to put Bihar in so much trouble.

PM Modi said that Bihar is now moving fast towards development, now no one can call Bihar a sick, helpless state.

What the RJD did in 18 months of the Grand Alliance government is not hidden from anyone. He (Mahagathbandhan) is again looking at Bihar with lavish eyes.

Manish Sisodia says government must introduce multi-year stage-wise classes

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has advised that after the proper rollout of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the board exams for students of classes 10 and 12 should be discontinued.

Sisodia also suggested that the government must introduce multi-year stage-wise classes and external assessment at the end of each stage.

At the 57th general council meeting of NCERT, Sisodia said: “Transformation in education should be holistic and not piecemeal.

He further went on to explain that “It means, instead of an existing class system where all children of a class move together in all subjects despite being at different learning levels, the multi-year stage will help the child move as per their learning need in different subjects at their own pace.

A stage-wise curriculum with a clearly stated learning goal in terms of knowledge, skills and values be created,” Mr Sisodia said.

The NEP approved by the government last month replaces the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and is aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower.
