Sebi, announces new portfolio allocation rule for multi cap mutual funds

Sebi, in a circular, on Friday announced new set of portfolio allocation rules for multi cap mutual funds where the Market Regulator made it mandatory for the multi cap funds to invest a minimum of 25% of their portfolio each in large cap stocks, mid caps and small cap companies.

Multi cap equity funds invest in companies of all sizes and across sectors. Unlike large or mid cap funds, they can decide how money gets allocated between big, mid-sized, and small companies. This flexibility also allows them to make changes in the portfolio as market conditions change.

The other option AMCs would consider is converting multi-cap schemes into thematic schemes, which do not have investment restrictions. The last option would be to close down the multi-cap schemes and return the money to investors. These decisions will depend on Sebi’s approval.

The move will force money managers to lower their exposure to largecaps and shift funds to the midcap and smallcap stocks, a move that could result in about Rs 35,000-40,000 crore shifting from largecaps to the broader market.

Fund houses are required to comply with the new norms by January 31, 2021. The rush to add smallcaps and midcaps to multicap portfolios could result in a run-up in those share prices.

“The move by the regulator is structural. As on August 2020, the assets under management (AUM) under multi-cap funds were around Rs 1.45 lakh crore. Of these, around 70-75 percent of the funds were invested in largecap stocks and rest in mid-smallcap stocks. So we are estimating around Rs 30,000-35,000 crore additional liquidity for the mid-smallcap space,” Choice Broking said.

As less than 10 percent of the multi-cap AUM is in smallcap companies, these categories will be flush with liquidity, it said.

Currently, daily volumes in mid-cap stocks is about Rs 11,700 crore, while in small-cap scrips it’s about Rs 4,800 crore. So a Rs 300-crore transfer per day works out to about 2% of the current daily turnover in these stocks.

Currently, Kotak Standard Multicap Fund is the largest in the lot with an asset base of Rs 29,714 crore, followed by HDFC Equity Fund at Rs 19,798 crore and Axis Focused 25 Fund at Rs 11,372 crore, industry data showed.

Kangana Ranaut vs Shiv Sena: Mumbai Police to investigate actress’ drug links

The Maharashtra State government on Friday ordered Mumbai Police to investigate Kangana Ranaut’s drug links based on an old interview given by actor Adhyayan Suman.

The order came after the Manikarnika actor’s ongoing rift with the Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena.

In a 2016 interview, Adhyayan Suman, who reportedly dated Kangana Ranaut for a year in 2009, had alleged that she is a drug addict and also asked him to use drugs at a party in 2008.

With Kangana’s feud with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) controlled by Shiv Sena, the interview is being widely shared wherein Adhyayan can be seen alleging Kangana of forcing him into taking drugs. However, Kangana had earlier said that she has never consumed drugs and is ready to testify for the same.

Adhyayan Suman has refused to comment on the probe based on his remarks. “Please do not drag my name in this!! I was ridiculed back in 2016 for speaking out by these media channels and now I am sorry I have nothing to say!” he tweeted.

Earlier this week, Sena leader and Thane MLA Pratap Sarnaik, in a letter to the state Home Department, stated that Kangana’s drug links should also be investigated in reference to Adhyayan Suman’s interview. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh then said Mumbai Police would conduct a thorough probe into the matter.

The word of war between Kangana and Shiv Sena begun when the former compared Mumbai to PoK while talking about Sushant Singh Rajput’s case. Kangana’s remark did not go well with many leaders including Sena’s MP Sanjay Raut who then used some highly unethical word for the actress.

Kangana, who was given Y + security when she returned to Mumbai, has now sought Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s attention, saying she must intervene and stop the harassment of women.

“Dear respected honourable@INCIndiapresident Sonia Gandhi ji being a woman arn’t you anguished by the treatment I am given by your government in Maharashtra? Can you not request your Government to uphold the principles of the Constitution given to us by Dr. Ambedkar?” the actor tweeted.

Kangana Ranaut has been constantly in the news after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. She has been vocal about how the actor was tortured in Bollywood and also linked his death to toxic rivalries, bullying and nepotism in the Hindi film industry.

Rabindranath Tagore’s relatives writes to Mamata Banerjee against Visva-Bharati officials

Relatives of Rabindranath Tagore including many prominent people , wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, against the officials of Visva-Bharati University requesting them to take over the century-old heritage route as they feared access to it. Can be blocked.

The letter, written by 40 celebrities, which includes a member of artist Nandlal Bose’s family, states that high-rise walls and the “prison-like atmosphere has been created” in many parts of Santiniketan.

It is feared that the three-kilometer long road connecting Vishn Bharati to the Sriniketan village that Tegaur had dreamed of will be closed to the public and a new road will be built in its place.

This letter written in Bengali language says, “The construction of this wall eight to nine feet high on the part of this old route is nearing completion, where there are also the houses of scholars like Amartya Sen, Kshitimohan Sen and Nandlal Bose”.

“An 8 to 9 foot high wall is nearing completion on part of this ancient road which is dotted with residences of luminaries like Amartya Sen, Khsitimohan Sen and Nandalal Bose,” reads the letter written in Bengali.

“Once the wall is completed, this road will be closed to residents of Sripally, Simanta Pally, Pearson Pally, Andrew’s Pally, Deer Park, Binoy Bhavan and Sriniketan, and part of Santiniketan’s history and heritage will be lost,” he added.

According to reports, on August 17, the decision of Visva-Bharati, founded by Tagore in 1921, to build fences around the Poush Mela grounds sparked violence and the university’s properties were vandalized by a mob.
