Jos Buttler doubts his ‘Test Match Credentials’

Jos Buttler has admitted to having doubts about his Test match credentials after playing a match-winning innings first Test match against Pakistan and he recognized that he have a lot to do to fix his place in the England Test side.

Earlier Buttler had a poor match with both gloves and bat before scoring his match-winning 75 runs in the second innings of the first Test at Old Trafford.

“At times there have been some lonely nights thinking about it,” Buttler said. “It’s a feeling of relief more than enjoyment at the minute. As the wicketkeeper in this team, you have to take chances and you have to keep better than I did in the first innings – I know that I don’t need other people to tell me that. I expect a lot of myself and to play international cricket there’s a level required. And I have to be better – that’s a stone-cold fact, there’s no point trying to hide that,” as saying by Cricbuzz

“The only thing you can do to achieve that is hard work – hard work and belief, try and maintain belief. I think last summer, all the cricket we saw, Ben Stokes showed us a lot of times to never give up, great things might be just around the corner so a lot of times, personally, you’ve got to go to the well again – can you find the courage to put yourself back in the situation to give yourself another chance. I think you’ve got to work hard, try and get better. I know I have to keep wicket better.”

The wicket-keeper batsman also admitted for fearing his place on the English side if he got failed to deliver in the second innings of the first Test match but he went on playing a match-winning and one of the most memorable knocks in his career. His 75 runs came after England got reduced to 117-5, he stood with the flamboyant all-rounder Chris Woakes in a partnership of 139 runs which turned out as a match-defining moment for England.

“Thoughts go through your head that if I don’t score any runs I’ve maybe played my last game,” he said. “But you have to shut those out and go and play your game. Having had some tough times I feel like my game’s coming together with the bat. I’m very aware I didn’t keep well, I missed some chances and at this level, you can’t afford to do that, no matter how many runs you score.

“It is difficult, especially in this day and age with the likes of social media. You’re sat in your hotel room and don’t leave the ground. But I think it’s important to acknowledge those thoughts. It would be very unnatural to not be thinking about those things. It’s more about acknowledging them and trying to let them go and let them pass. And then let the positive thoughts you have, try and cling onto them a bit more. Show that character I feel like I’ve got within myself and that competitive spirit.”

At a point, Pakistan’s victory was nothing more than just a formality but the English team didn’t give up. Buttler and Woakes pushed the visitors onto the backfoot.

“I really enjoyed my partnership with Woakesy,” Buttler said. “We tried to break it down into a bit of a one-day chase, and scored at four an over, to take the second new ball out of the equation. I’m delighted for him, he’s certainly not undervalued in our team and our squad. He’s a fantastic cricketer, and with another all-rounder like Stokes in the team he sometimes is overshadowed and he doesn’t seek out the limelight.”

“Only he will know which way around he did that. But I’m sure it’s a very difficult thing not to think about it. To be able to deal with that and still play in that manner was exceptional. One of his big traits is that, under pressure, he puts in big performances. Another example of that was that final ODI [in 2018] against Australia on this very ground. You can deal with those high-pressure situations but to have that external pressure as well, I’m chuffed to bits for him, it must have been very difficult to deal with.”

“The extra day definitely will help,” Root said after England wrapped their victory up with a day to spare in Manchester. “I think we’ll have to be quite smart, as we were in the previous series, and we’ll have to see how everyone pulls up. But we are in such a good position, with so many great options that all bases will be covered. We should have a very strong side, whatever the make-up of the Test side is.”

11 Pakistani Hindus found dead in Rajasthan

Eleven Pakistani Hindu migrants were found dead in at a farm in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan on Sunday morning.

The migrants were the members of the same family. They were living at Lodha village of Dechu area, said an officer as quoted by Indian Express.

“But he claimed to have no idea about the incident, which believed to have happened in the night,” said Rahul Barhat, Superintendent of Police.

“We are yet to ascertain the cause and means of death. But apparently, all the members appeared to have committed suicide by consuming some chemical in the night,” Barhat added.

The SP also said that there was a pungent smell around the hut, which indicates the family members must have smelled/consumed something. All the family members were Pakistani Hindus who crossed the border for a better life in India. The Bhil community migrants were living on the farm in the village, where all of them were hired for farming work.

“There was neither any injury mark on any of the bodies nor any shreds of evidence of any foul play,” the SP said. “But we have roped in the forensic team and a dog squad to arrive at any final conclusion.”

According to initial information, there were some disputes in the family but the smell of chemicals but the other clues also implied this is a planned murder.

“Once we interrogate the survivor, we would be in any position to find out that what had led to this incident”, SP said.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei opens an official Twitter account in Hindi

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Sunday opened an official account on the micro-blogging site Twitter in Hindi. Besides Hindi, he has also opened accounts in other languages including Persian, Urdu, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian and English.

From his bio to tweets, everything in Ayatollah Khamenei’s account has been written in Devenagiri script. The new account so far has 3,640 followers and 7 following. Two tweets had already been posted from the account.

Khamenei’s twitter accounts have attracted much interest in the past as well. Last year in November, several Iranian activists demanded a ban on his social media accounts after his decision to shut off the internet access across the country over protests of national interests including fuel prices among others.

Again in February this year, several Republican senators in the US urged Twitter to suspend his accounts considering the US sanction law.

IPL 2020: Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is among the leading contenders for the title sponsors

Earlier Chinese mobile company VIVO has withdrawn as the title sponsors for this year's IPL which will be played in UAE

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is among the other contenders for the title sponsors of the Indian Premier League 2020. Earlier Chinese mobile company VIVO has withdrawn as the title sponsors for this year’s IPL which will be played in UAE.

“We are considering the IPL title sponsorship for this year since we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,” said the Patanjali spokesperson, S.K Tijarawala as quoted by Economic Times. He also confirmed that Patanjali has already made a proposal in front of BCCI for their sponsorship in IPL 2020.

There are many speculations on whether BCCI would allow Patanjali as their leading title sponsors for IPL or not. Since IPL 2020 will be played in UAE, so IPL needs a multinational and heavily invested unicorn brand. Patanjali is a supreme nationalistic brand and its also the leading Indian company in PM Modi’s ‘Aatamanibhar Abhiyan’. The organizers of IPL would definitely hunt for a strong multinational company as their title sponsors and they might not consider Patanjali in this caravan.

“Patanjali as a title sponsor for IPL will do more for Patanjali than for IPL. While the caste hierarchy among brands could play out, Patanjali owning the title sponsorship would be contextual from a nationalist perspective, since there is an enormous anti-China sentiment prevailing in the country,” said brand strategist Harish Bijoor.

Despite the entire IPL being played out of the country for the second time in its history and possibly in the empty stadiums of UAE. IPL is a high visibility property in terms of media viewership. The return of IPL will also mark the return of mega television advertising rate world-wide. So, in that case, Patanjali may get sidelined when the others come in this picture.

Jio, Amazon, Tata group, Dream11, Adani group, and Byjus are the prior contenders for IPL 2020 sponsors.

Hong Kong- Media tycoon Jimmy Lai arrested under national security law

Hong Kong- Media tycoon Jimmy Lai was arrested over suspected collusion with foreign forces under the new national security law in a wide-ranging police operation. It is said to be he is the highest-profile arrest yet under the legislation.

Lai is 71, he has been one of the most important democracy activists in the Chinese-ruled city and an ardent critic of Beijing.

Now, his arrest marks one of the prominent arrest in Beijing’s crackdown against pro-democracy opposition in the city.

It “bears out the worst fears that Hong Kong’s National Security Law would be used to suppress critical pro-democracy opinion and restrict press freedom,” said Steven Butler, the Committee to Protect Journalists’ Asia programme coordinator.

“Jimmy Lai should be released at once and any charges dropped.”

Notably, the new security law punishes anything China considers subversion, secession, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces with up to life in prison.

Meanwhile critics say it violates freedoms in the semi-autonomous city, while supporters says it will bring stability after prolonged pro-democracy protests last year.

“Jimmy Lai is being arrested for collusion with foreign powers at this time,” Mark Simon, a senior executive at Lai’s media company Next Digital, which publishes local tabloid Apple Daily, said early on Monday.

Hong Kong police said they havw arrested seven people on breaching the city’s new national security law, citing offences including collusion with foreign powers.

Police said the operation was ongoing and further arrests were possible.

According to public broadcaster RTHK, those arrested include several top executives at Apple Daily — potentially a major blow to the newspaper’s operations in the city.

Lai’s arrest also comes as tensions between the United State and China over the national security law continue to escalate. Washington imposed sanctions Friday against Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam and 10 other Chinese and Hong Kong officials for undermining the city’s autonomy.

PM Modi announces ₹1 Lakh crore support for agriculture sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces Rs 1 lakh crore investment in the farm sector, especially in cold storages, warehousing and markets for farmers.

Firstly the scheme was announced by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman as part of a Rs 20 lakh crore economic and relief package in the wake of the coronavirus disease pandemic.

According to the guidelines, all loans up to Rs 2 crore will be spend with a 3% interest subsidy. The loans will be also disbursed in the next four years with a sanction of Rs 10,000 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 30,000 crore in the next three years.

“The agriculture infrastructure fund will provide better warehousing and cold storage facilities for farmers and is a step towards doubling of farm income,” Modi said. The fund will also create employment as investments will goes into food processing and post-harvest facilities in rural India.

In the video-conferencing, Modi interacted with farmers from Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

“The Prime Minister had an engaging discussion with the representatives of these societies to understand their current operations and how they plan to utilise the loan. The societies informed the Prime Minister about their plans to build godowns, set up grading and sorting units which will help member-farmers secure a higher price for their produce,” an official statement said.

Modi said, “No middlemen or commission, it went straight to farmers. I am satisfied because the objective of the scheme is being fulfilled.”
