AAP will not allow even single genuine vote to be deleted in Punjab through SIR: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

Punjab News

Amid growing concerns over manipulation of electoral rolls in several states, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday declared that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would not allow even a single genuine vote to be deleted in Punjab under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Warning against any attempt to engineer “fake votes” in favour of a particular political party, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann asserted that AAP leaders and karyakartas would remain stationed alongside Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at every polling booth across Punjab to monitor the exercise and prevent any irregularity.

Referring to complaints from other states regarding deletion of lakhs of genuine votes and irregularities in the verification process, the Chief Minister said the people of Punjab would not permit such practices in the state and urged the Election Commission (EC) to carry out the entire SIR exercise with complete honesty, transparency and impartiality while ensuring that public objections are resolved without delay.

Interacting with the media, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Special Intensive Revision of voter lists must be conducted with complete transparency, honesty, fairness and accountability so that every genuine voter can exercise their democratic right without fear or obstruction. Representatives of all political parties will remain actively involved throughout the process to ensure that no irregularities take place anywhere in Punjab.”

The Chief Minister noted, “Concerns raised in several states regarding deletion of genuine votes and inclusion of fake entries have created anxiety among citizens, making it imperative for the Election Commission to act with utmost responsibility and neutrality. Complaints have surfaced from different states about lakhs of genuine votes being deleted and manipulation in the verification process, but the people of Punjab will not allow such practices to happen in the state.”

“Democracy cannot survive if people begin to lose trust in the sanctity of electoral rolls and constitutional institutions responsible for conducting elections,” asserted CM Bhagwant Singh Mann. “The Election Commission must ensure that every eligible voter is protected and every complaint raised by political parties is addressed honestly, transparently and without delay,” he added.

Clarifying the AAP’s stand on revision of electoral rolls, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Names of deceased individuals or those who have permanently shifted abroad after acquiring foreign citizenship should naturally be removed from voter lists, but no genuine resident of Punjab should face harassment or denial of voting rights under any circumstances.”

The Chief Minister further revealed that nearly 83 percent voter mapping has already been completed in Punjab and urged citizens to actively participate in the verification process to safeguard their democratic rights. “The Election Commission must conduct the entire SIR exercise with complete honesty and impartiality while ensuring that objections raised by people are resolved immediately and fairly,” affirmed CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra joins Aam Aadmi Party

Punjab news

In a major political development in Punjab, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Cabinet Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday during a public gathering held in Samana. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann personally welcomed him into the party. His family and several supporters also joined AAP along with him.

Welcoming Surjit Singh Rakhra into the party, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “May 16 will be remembered as a significant day in Punjab’s political history, as a clean and respected personality dedicated to public service has joined the AAP family. Surjit Singh Rakhra had every opportunity to focus on expanding his business and personal interests, but he chose the path of serving common people.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “I thank the entire Rakhra family and all their supporters for joining the AAP Punjab family. Sometimes leaders have to rise above personal interests and work for the welfare of the state, society and future generations.”

He continued, “Surjit Singh Rakhra repeatedly tried to reform the Shiromani Akali Dal from within, but the party had gone astray and fallen into the wrong hands. The people had already rejected the Akali leadership because of their role in ‘beadbi’ incidents and anti-people politics.”

Taking a sharp dig at the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Punjab CM stated, “Leaders who once claimed they would rule Punjab for 25 years are now left without even 25 people in the party. The Shiromani Akali Dal has weakened to such an extent that even forming committees has become difficult for them.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann further said, “Punjab needs experienced and honest people to rebuild the state and strengthen governance. The Rakhra family is a symbol of unity and hard work, and their experience will greatly benefit both Punjab and the party.”

Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, Surjit Singh Rakhra stated, “I thank Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the AAP leadership for welcoming me into the party. My decision to leave the Shiromani Akali Dal was directly linked to the issue of ‘beadbi’ and the newly enacted anti-beadbi law.”

He said, “For nearly one and a half years, I regularly visited the Samana Morcha, where Gurjeet Singh Khalsa had been protesting atop a 400 foot tower demanding strict legislation against beadbi. I strongly felt that such a law was necessary.”

Surjit Singh Rakhra revealed, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann told me that if the government enacted a strong anti-beadbi law, then I should support the party. I had promised that if such a law was passed, I would have no hesitation in joining AAP.”

He continued, “Previous governments failed to enact an effective law because of a lack of political will, whereas the Bhagwant Mann government fulfilled the long-standing demand after the Governor approved the legislation. Once the law was passed, I had to honour my commitment.”

Surjit Singh Rakhra also praised the AAP government’s efforts and said, “The government’s work to expand canal water infrastructure and protect Punjab from turning into a desert state is commendable. The initiatives taken by the Bhagwant Mann government to revive Punjab’s water resources and increase the use of canal water have given hope to Punjab’s future generations.”

World Hypertension Day: Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Supports Patients from 40 to 90 Plus, Including 98-Year-Olds

CM Mann

As the world marks World Hypertension Day, the Bhagwant Mann Government’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) is bringing significant relief to patients battling high blood pressure and related ailments by ensuring affordable and timely healthcare access. With hypertension emerging as a growing health concern across all age groups, the scheme is helping thousands of families across Punjab avoid the burden of expensive treatment and medicines.

Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is often described by doctors as the “silent killer”. It shows little warning before triggering strokes, heart failure or kidney disease. The condition Is common across age groups.

Visit hospitals and you see elderly men sit silently waiting for test results. Women clutching prescription slips folded carefully into handbags. Younger patients, once considered too young for such ailments, now discuss blood pressure readings with growing worry. Behind every hospital file lies a family trying to balance illness with the fear of rising treatment costs.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), India carries a rapidly increasing burden of hypertension, fuelled by poor dietary habits, stress, tobacco use, lack of physical activity and irregular routines.

Doctors warn that many patients remain unaware of the condition until severe complications occur. Amid this growing health crisis, Punjab’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has become a critical safety net. The scheme is helping thousands of patients receive treatment for hypertension and related complications without the burden of unaffordable medical bills.

Hospital admissions linked to strokes, cardiac emergencies and kidney ailments caused by uncontrolled blood pressure are now being covered under the programme, offering relief to families already battling emotional distress.

Most hypertension patients in Punjab continue to belong to the middle-aged and elderly population, with the heaviest burden seen among those between 40 and 80 years of age. Data from State Health Agency (SHA) reveals that Gurdaspur recorded patients as old as 94, while S.A.S Nagar reported cases up to 98 years, underlining the disease’s deep reach among senior citizens.

Districts such as Patiala, S.A.S Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar and Faridkot reported some of the highest and widest spreads of cases across both genders. In Amritsar and Ludhiana, hospital records show a particularly high concentration among women aged between 50 and 77 years.

Dr Saurabh Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Cardiology at Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, says hypertension is no longer confined to old age. “Modern lifestyles bring a different set of health challenges across all age groups. While the majority of hypertension cases are seen among people aged 40 to 90 and above, we are also witnessing cases in teenagers and people in their twenties and thirties,” he says.

Dr Saurabh Sharma adds, “Lifestyle factors such as stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, and irregular routines play a major role, though certain medical conditions can also lead to hypertension.” He further warns that the complications are appearing earlier than before. “What we are seeing now is not just high blood pressure, but its complications arriving earlier than before, stroke, heart failure and kidney disease.

Schemes like Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, Dr Saurabh Sharma says, are crucial because they ensure patients do not delay treatment due to financial fear. In hypertensive emergency, delay is often the difference between recovery and tragedy,” he informs.

Health officials say the scheme’s importance lies not merely in treatment, but in timely intervention. In earlier years, many families delayed hospitalisation because of financial fear. Such delays often proved dangerous, sometimes fatal. Under the Sehat Yojna, patients are increasingly seeking medical attention earlier, improving their chances of recovery. For middle-class households, pensioners and government employees, the scheme has become a buffer against catastrophic expenditure.

On this World Hypertension Day, MMSY sehat card’s greatest achievement may not only be the number of claims settled, but the dignity it has preserved for patients who can now seek treatment without the shadow of financial ruin hanging over them.

Long hours of sitting have become a common part of modern life. From office desks to home work setups, many people spend most of their day seated. According to experts, something as simple as sitting for too long may be linked to serious health risks, including a higher cancer risk.

Cancer specialist Dr Tarang Krishna recently explained in a YouTube video that a sedentary lifestyle can be extremely harmful. He said that sitting for long hours may significantly increase the cancer risk in the body over time. His statement has caught attention because it compares everyday sitting habits with the dangers of smoking.

Cancer Risk: Why Long Sitting Is A Concern

Dr Krishna further explained that even sitting continuously for 2 to 4 hours may start affecting the body. In some cases, it is suggested that the damage may feel similar to the effects caused by smoking. While this does not mean sitting equals smoking, the concern is about how inactivity slows down body functions and increases health risks.

Key concerns linked with long sitting include:

  • Reduced blood circulation
  • Slower metabolism
  • Increased inflammation in the body
  • Possible rise in long-term health issues, including cancer risk

Experts say that when the body remains inactive for long periods, it may affect the immune system and overall functioning. This is why prolonged sitting is now being studied as a possible contributing factor to serious health conditions.

Cancer Risk: Simple Lifestyle Changes That May Help

Health professionals suggest small but consistent changes in daily routine. One of the most recommended habits is taking short movement breaks.

Experts advise:

  • Stand up every 30 minutes
  • Walk around for 2–5 minutes
  • Stretch your body lightly before sitting again
  • Use reminders or alarms to avoid long sitting hours

These small breaks can help improve blood flow and reduce the impact of a sedentary lifestyle. Doctors believe that such habits may help lower the overall cancer risk associated with inactivity.

Why This Matters for Desk Job Workers

This warning is especially important for people with desk jobs such as office employees, students, and even healthcare professionals. Many of them sit continuously for long hours without realising the impact on their health.

By making small changes like regular movement and posture shifts, individuals can actively reduce potential health risks. While more research is still needed, experts agree that reducing inactivity is a key step in managing long-term cancer risk and improving overall well-being.

Anurag Dhanda: Opposition Questions Media Independence After News Channel Deletes Report Following PM’s Response

Anurag Dhanda: A political controversy erupted after a news report related to possible restrictions on foreign travel was reportedly deleted by a television news channel shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly denied the claims on social media.

Anurag Dhanda: Opposition Questions Media Independence After News Channel Deletes Report

The issue gained attention after senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda accused sections of the media of functioning under pressure from the ruling establishment. In a post on X, Dhanda questioned why the channel removed its report after the Prime Minister termed the information “totally false.”

According to Dhanda, the channel had initially aired the report citing sources, which allegedly caused concern within the government after the information became public. He argued that if the report was based on credible sources, a political denial alone should not have resulted in the deletion of the story.

Prime Minister Modi rejected the claims outright through his official X account

Responding to the controversy, Prime Minister Modi rejected the claims outright through his official X account. He stated that there was “not an iota of truth” in the report and clarified that there was no proposal to impose restrictions on foreign travel. The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to improving “Ease of Doing Business” and “Ease of Living” in the country.

The episode has once again triggered debate over the relationship between political power and media organisations in India. Opposition leaders and critics have often raised concerns regarding editorial independence and the influence of political pressure on news coverage, while the government has consistently denied allegations of media interference.

The deleted report and the subsequent political reactions have now become part of a larger conversation surrounding press freedom, accountability, and the role of media in a democratic system.

High Uric Acid Warning: Doctor Explains Silent ‘Crystal Build-Up’ Behind Joint Pain – Simple Remedy Shared!

High Uric Acid Joint Pain Remedy

High uric acid levels can lead to joint pain, swelling and long-term discomfort if not managed properly. A commonly discussed natural approach highlights how everyday kitchen ingredients may support relief and help ease inflammation linked to uric acid buildup in the body.

Uric acid is a waste product formed in the body during the breakdown of certain foods. When its levels rise, it can form sharp crystals that get deposited in the joints. This often results in stiffness, pain and swelling, especially in the knees, ankles and feet.

Simple Kitchen Remedy For High Uric Acid

According to the suggestion shared by a Delhi Dr Saleem Zaidi, a basic home drink made with ajwain (carom seeds) and grated ginger may help support relief from these symptoms.

The preparation is simple. Take one teaspoon of ajwain and one teaspoon of grated ginger. Add both to a glass of water and boil it until the liquid reduces to about three-quarters of its original quantity.

Once ready, the mixture is consumed warm in the morning, about 30 minutes before breakfast.

How This Mixture Helps In Lowering High Uric Acid

Ajwain is traditionally known for its digestive and anti-inflammatory properties, while ginger is widely used for its warming and soothing effects on the body. Together, they are believed in home wellness practices to support joint comfort and reduce discomfort linked with inflammation.

The drink is suggested as a supportive routine, especially for people experiencing stiffness or recurring joint pain associated with high uric acid levels.

Important Note On Health Management

While such home remedies are popular in traditional wellness practices, high uric acid is a medical condition that may require proper diagnosis, diet control and treatment. Experts generally advise maintaining a balanced diet, staying hydrated and consulting a doctor for persistent symptoms.

Managing High UA effectively often involves a combination of lifestyle changes, medical guidance and consistent care rather than relying on a single remedy.

72 teachers from Punjab Govt schools leave for Finland for training, giving further strength to Bhagwant Mann Govt’s ‘Shikhya Kranti’

Punjab news

In a major push to Punjab’s rapidly expanding ‘Sikhya Kranti’, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday flagged off the largest-ever batch of 72 government school teachers for advanced training in Finland, asserting that the Punjab Government’s investment in teacher training, modern classrooms and academic reforms has transformed Punjab into the country’s leading state in education.

Drawing a sharp contrast with the decades-long neglect of public education by previous governments, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjab’s government schools are now outperforming private schools in board examination results, while lakhs of parents are voluntarily participating in Parent-Teacher Meetings started for the first time by the present government. He maintained that exposure to world-class education systems is helping create revolutionary changes inside classrooms and strengthening the Punjab Government’s mission to make government schools the first choice of every parent.

Addressing the teachers before their departure, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “A total of 72 government school teachers have been selected for advanced pedagogical training at the globally acclaimed University of Turku in Finland. These teachers will undergo intensive exposure to modern teaching methodologies, innovative classroom practices, student-centric learning models and globally benchmarked education systems till May 29.”

The Chief Minister stated, “This initiative marks another major milestone in Punjab’s education reform programme, which has emerged as one of the most aggressively pursued governance transformations in the country.”

Describing teachers as the “true nation builders” entrusted with shaping Punjab’s future generations, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Punjab Government is not merely investing in infrastructure but fundamentally rebuilding the educational ecosystem from the ground up. Punjab’s education reforms are no longer confined to policy announcements but are now producing measurable and nationally recognised outcomes.”

Citing the latest educational indicators released by NITI Aayog, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Punjab has outperformed several traditionally strong educational states, including Kerala, Maharashtra and Haryana, across multiple parameters related to school education.”

He added, “Punjab has registered exceptional performance in Mathematics, Science and Language proficiency while simultaneously emerging as a frontrunner in smart school infrastructure, digital learning facilities and classroom management standards. The results clearly demonstrate that government schools in Punjab are undergoing a historic transformation after decades of neglect.”

Highlighting the significance of the Finland training programme, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann asserted, “This initiative is part of a broader strategy to equip Punjab’s teachers with international exposure and future-ready educational practices. It is not merely a ceremonial foreign visit but a structured learning experience aimed at bringing practical innovation directly into Punjab’s classrooms.”

He further stated, “The teachers will closely study Finland’s globally celebrated education system, which is known for its emphasis on conceptual learning, critical thinking, emotional well-being of students and minimal rote memorisation. The training will also focus on collaborative teaching techniques, classroom engagement models, assessment reforms and integration of technology in education.”

Referring to the impact of earlier international training batches, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann asserted, “The positive outcomes are already visible across government schools in Punjab. Trained teachers have introduced more interactive learning environments, improved classroom discipline and adopted student-friendly approaches that have significantly enhanced academic performance.”

Highlighting the scale of infrastructure improvement undertaken by the Punjab Government, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Computers are now available in nearly 99 percent of government schools, while electricity connectivity has reached almost 99.9 percent institutions across Punjab. These developments have laid the foundation for a technologically empowered and inclusive education system.”

Crediting teachers for becoming active partners in Punjab’s education revolution, he said, “Despite years of systemic challenges, Punjab’s teachers have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and adaptability in embracing reforms and modern teaching techniques.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also lauded Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains and said, “Harjot Singh Bains has personally spearheaded reforms at the grassroots level. His continuous visits to schools and direct monitoring of academic standards and infrastructure projects have ensured accountability and accelerated implementation.”

The Chief Minister further said, “The Bhagwant Mann Government has consciously attempted to free teachers from excessive administrative burdens so they can focus exclusively on academics and student development. The appointment of campus managers and support staff in schools has played a crucial role in reducing non-teaching responsibilities for educators.”

Referring to Punjab’s recent Class 12 board examination results, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These results stand as one of the strongest indicators of the changing educational landscape in Punjab. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that students from government schools are now competing with and in many cases outperforming their peers from elite private institutions.”

Highlighting a remarkable achievement by government school students, he said, “Three girl students secured a perfect score of 500 out of 500 marks in the Class 12 examinations. These students are not confined merely to academics but are also accomplished sportspersons excelling in disciplines such as fencing, handball and basketball.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “This proves that our government school students are not just academically strong but are becoming confident and multidimensional personalities capable of excelling in every field. Punjab’s model is beginning to challenge long-standing perceptions surrounding government schools in India.”

He added, “For decades, public education in many states struggled with declining enrolment, weak infrastructure and lack of parental confidence. Punjab’s aggressive reforms appear to be reversing that trend.”

Highlighting growing public confidence in government schools, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “One of the most striking indicators of this changing public perception is the unprecedented participation of parents in Parent-Teacher Meetings across government schools. Nearly 24 lakh parents attended PTMs to discuss their children’s academic performance, career aspirations and overall development.”

Calling this a sign of renewed trust in public education, he added, “Active collaboration between parents and teachers is creating a healthier educational atmosphere and ensuring greater accountability at every level.”

Reiterating the Bhagwant Mann Government’s commitment to continuous educational innovation and capacity building, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann announced, “Teachers will continue to be sent for specialised training programmes at globally reputed institutions and centres of excellence, including institutions in Singapore and Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.”

He said, “These initiatives are part of a larger governance philosophy aimed at positioning education as the cornerstone of Punjab’s social and economic progress. By investing simultaneously in teachers, students and infrastructure, the Punjab Government is determined to create a sustainable public education model capable of competing with the best systems globally.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann congratulated the Punjab School Education Board, teachers, officials, students and parents for the remarkable achievements recorded in recent years.

Concluding the event, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Punjab’s government schools are steadily emerging as the first choice for parents and students alike. As the 72 teachers embark on their journey to Finland, the symbolism is unmistakable. Punjab is no longer looking inward for educational reform alone but is confidently engaging with the world’s best systems to build a future-ready generation. The message from the Punjab Government is loud and clear that Punjab’s classrooms are not merely changing but they are being reinvented to compete on a global stage.
