‘Not a threat we expect from a friend,’ says Omar Abdullah on DMK leader’s ‘go to Kashmir’ remark

Omar Abdullah: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said , ‘Can go to Kashmir’ is a statement that was not expected from the DMK. DMK leader Shivaji Krishnamoorthy, who has been recently locked in a war of words with Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi, had made this remark against him a day earlier.

Abdullah took to Twitter and described Krishnamoorthy’s statement as a ‘threat’ and the Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin-led party as ‘friends.’

“’Can go to Kashmir’ is not a threat we expect from our friends in the DMK,” tweeted the National Conference vice president, who along with several non-BJP leaders had attended the release of Stalin’s autobiography in February last year, in Chennai.

DMK – RN Ravi at loggerheads

The DMK that has its government in Tamil Nadu, has been at loggerheads with the governor over his recent statement that the state should be called ‘Tamizhagam,’ and not ‘Tamil Nadu.’

Krishnamoorthy was addressing a public gathering when he made the remark against the governor Ravi. “If you (Ravi) do not read out the speech given by the Tamil Nadu government, then go to Kashmir, and we will send terrorists so that they’ll gun you down,” he remarked.

The statement has got Krishnamoorthy in trouble as Prasanna Ramasamy, Deputy Secretary to the Governor, filed a complaint against him with Chennai City Police Commissioner. Chennai police said they would be registering an FIR against the DMK leader under IPC sections 499 (Defamation) and 500 (Punishment for defamation).

Krishnamoorthy suspended

Meanwhile, DMK temporarily suspended Krishnamoorthy for violating party activities. He has been removed from all responsibilities with immediate effect after his comments against the Governor.

Krishnamoorthy made the statement following a massive showdown in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The DMK government accused the Governor for skipping parts of chief minister Stalin’s speech.
