India’s Apple Equation! iPhones Double, Other Devices Experience a Sales Decline

Apple iPhones

Apple iPhones: Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, and AirPod shipments are expected to decline, according to a report by ET Telecom that quotes industry analysts. This is said to coincide with an increase in iPhone shipments. Analysts predict that in calendar year 2023, Mac shipments will fall by a potential 15% to 18%. Counterpoint Research analysts predict that iPad shipments will decrease by 6% to 8%.

Apple iPhone Shipments Expected to Double

It is important to remember that shipments of Apple iPhones are expected to double at a time when the market for smartphones as a whole is expected to contract by 2%. A 2% decrease from the 152 million smartphones sold in 2022 would translate into roughly 149 million units sold in 2023. According to the research, Apple accounted for about 8.9 million units, or about 6% of all sales.

Uncertainty Over Apple’s Device Shipments

The report went on to say that it’s unclear if this is the first time Apple has seen a drop in device shipments, excluding iPhone models. According to Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint, iPhone models are expected to contribute a larger share to Apple‘s revenue in India, growing from 85% last year to an estimated 88-90% this year, as sales of iPhones soar and other products face challenges, the ET report added.

Remarkable Revenue Surge

Apple India saw a 48% increase in revenue in the fiscal year 2022–2023 (FY23), reaching Rs 49,321 crore. Additionally, net profit increased by 76% to Rs 2,229 crore. Apple only had a five percent unit market share, but in terms of revenue, it accounted for the second-highest share (18%) in 2022, only surpassed by South Korea’s Samsung.

Robust Revenue Growth

According to data from company research platform Tofler, Apple India’s business saw a 48% increase in revenue in the fiscal year 2022–2023 (FY23), according to a report published in October. The manufacturer of iPhones reported revenue of Rs 49,332 crore for the reporting period. It also reported that total expenses for the period increased by 46.5% year over year (YoY) to Rs 46,444 crore for the reporting fiscal. In terms of product sales, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has recently turned its attention to the Indian market in addition to producing iPhones and other Apple goods there.
