In a dramatic turn of events during Parliament’s winter session, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed he was injured in a scuffle allegedly involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The incident unfolded amidst heightened tensions over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which had already stirred considerable debate.
The Incident: What Happened?
According to Pratap Chandra Sarangi, the situation escalated when Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, allegedly pushed another MP, who then accidentally collided with Sarangi, causing him to fall and sustain injuries. Recounting the incident, Sarangi told ANI, "I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who fell on me. This caused me to fall down and injure my head."
The scene reportedly occurred during a Congress-led protest against remarks made by Amit Shah regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The protest had already set the tone for a charged session in Parliament, with both sides clashing verbally and physically.
Rahul Gandhi’s Perspective
Responding to the allegations, Rahul Gandhi provided his version of events. He explained that the scuffle took place while he and other opposition leaders were attempting to enter Parliament. According to Gandhi, BJP MPs actively tried to prevent them from entering, leading to physical altercations.
"This might be on your camera," Gandhi remarked to the media. "I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance when BJP MPs started pushing and threatening me. Yes, such behavior occurred, but we won’t be deterred by jostling. The central issue here is that they are attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Ambedkar ji."
Gandhi also highlighted that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was similarly obstructed during the protest, emphasising the growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition.
