Extremists attack beachside hotel in Somalia capital

Somalia: India Today reports that there was an extremist attack on a beachside hotel in Mogadishu. The attack occurred after 6 p.m. on Friday.Al-Shabab, the terrorist group affiliated with Al-Qaida has claimed responsibility for this attack. At the time of filing this report, there were no reports of any casualties.

The Somali News Agency said that security forces have reached the Pearl Beach Hotel and many people are still trapped inside. yewitnesses said they heard a loud explosion near the hotel followed by firing.Security experts say that Al-Shabab starts its operations with a suicide bombing followed by firing.

Pearl Beach Hotel is very popular among government officials. They visit this place after office hours to have coffee and ice cream. This hotel is a small distance away from the Turkish Embassy.

Hasan Abdirahman told the Associated Press he was in the hotel and “heard the sound of gunshots which came from the beach direction and followed by the huge sound of an explosion.” 

Another eyewitness told reporters that he “instantly fled for cover” after hearing a loud explosion in the restaurant.

“Some of my friends are still stuck inside the hotel, but the security officers managed to rescue me. I hope they stay safe,” Mulki Osman, the eyewitness said.

Al- Shabab

Harkat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen is a terrorist organization that is engaged in a civil war inside Somalia. This extremist Islamic group has combined Somali nationalism with Islamic fundamentalism to spread terror inside the country.
