WHO approves the Covaxin, corona vaccine made in India

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the emergency use of Covaxin, a corona vaccine manufactured in India. The indigenous company Bharat Biotech has developed this vaccine. Sources gave this information on Wednesday evening. The meaning of this approval from WHO is that this corona vaccine made in India will now be recognized in other countries and Indians who have got this vaccine will no longer have to be quarantined or face restrictions during travel abroad.

Emergency listing or EUL comes after a lengthy review process. Bharat Biotech had earlier applied for approval in April and provided the required dates in July, including information related to the vaccine’s safety, effectiveness.

It is worth noting that recently, Covaxin has also been recognized by Australia for travel. Australia has also announced the relaxation of its international border restrictions. The Australian government’s media release said, ‘Covaxin and Sinoform, manufactured by Bharat Biotech India, will be recognized for the vaccination of travelers to China-made BBIBP-CorV. This validation for Covaxin will be for passengers 12 or older and for BBIBP-CorV for Vaccinated passengers between 18 and 60 years of age. ‘
