In a significant announcement, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan revealed that students will soon have the option to sit for their 10th and 12th class board examinations twice a year, starting from the academic session 2025-26. This move is aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to alleviate the academic stress faced by students.
Promoting a Stress-free Learning Environment
Pradhan emphasized the need to reduce the burden on students, a core principle of the NEP 2020. He reiterated the policy’s focus on holistic education by integrating art, culture, and sports into the curriculum. The minister highlighted the introduction of 10 bag-less days in schools annually, dedicated to engaging students in extracurricular activities.
Twice-Yearly Board Exams to Offer Flexibility
Under the New Curriculum Framework (NCF), announced by the Ministry of Education, board examinations will be conducted at least twice a year. This initiative aims to provide students with ample time and opportunities to excel academically. Additionally, students will have the choice to retain their best scores, further reducing the pressure associated with board exams.
Prime Minister Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Scheme Launched
During the launch event held at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay auditorium in Raipur, Pradhan introduced the PM SHRI scheme in Chhattisgarh. Under this scheme, 211 schools in the state will undergo upgrades, with a focus on enhancing educational infrastructure and quality. The scheme follows a ‘hub and spoke’ model, where mentor institutions guide and support mentee institutions for overall improvement.
Empowering Education in Chhattisgarh
Pradhan commended the efforts of the BJP-led government in prioritizing education in Chhattisgarh. He credited the new Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai, for his commitment to transforming the education sector. The PM SHRI scheme’s first phase will see significant investments in upgrading both elementary and secondary level schools in the state.
Future Endeavors and Olympic Aspirations
Looking ahead, Pradhan expressed India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics Games. He urged for early preparations, envisioning a substantial contribution from Chhattisgarh athletes. The minister emphasized the need to nurture sporting talent from an early age, aligning with the government’s vision for the country’s development.
