Indira Gandhi Death Anniversary: The Congress Monday paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to mark her Death Anniversary. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he was keeping her love and principles in his heart and would not let the India she gave her life to fall apart.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Pays Tributes

At the Shakti Sthal monument for Indira Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Party Chief Sonia Gandhi, and other top party figures presented floral tributes to the late Prime Minister.

“My tributes to the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi ji, on her martyrdom day. Be it agriculture, economy or military power, Indira ji’s contribution in making India a strong nation is incomparable,” Mr Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.

Rahul Gandhi Pens Emotional Note on Indira Gandhi Death Anniversary

In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, “Grandmother, I am carrying both your love and values in my heart. I will not allow the India for which you have sacrificed your life to fall apart.”

Veteran party leader and Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal tweeted: “If I die today, every drop of my blood will invigorate the nation, the immortal words of Indira Gandhi reverberate in our minds as we mark her 38th death anniversary. The Bharat Jodo Yatra draws energy from her life mission to preserve the unity of India. Tributes to India’s Iron Lady.”

Congress Pays Tributes To Indira Gandhi

In a post from its official Twitter handle, the Congress talked about Bangladesh to ushering in of the Green Revolution, Indira Gandhi led the nation through its highs and lows. 

“We salute her unyielding resilience & unwavering vision for the nation’s development,” the party said.

Jawaharlal Nehru’s sole child and first prime minister of Independent India, Indira Gandhi, was born on November 19, 1917. She became the third Prime Minister of the nation and held the position for two terms, first from January 1966 to March 1977 and subsequently from January 1980 until her murder in 1984.
