Mamata Banerjee: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took “evidence” after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the office of the I-PAC, (Indian Political Action Committee). In videos of her visit to the residence and office of Pratik Jain, the head of top political consultancy group I-PAC, Mamata can be seen visibly charged to make her way amid noisy scenes. Today, some of her party members were detained after they staged a protest at the Parliament.

Mamata remarked the raid on Jain’s residence was “politically motivated and unconstitutional”. Mamata further commented that ED has raided the residence of our IT chief to confiscate her party’s documents as well as hard disks. Mamata threatened that a similar raid can also happen at the BJP’s party offices in West Bengal.

Party members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) gheraoed the Indian Parliament today.  This led to them getting detained by security officers. After this, Mamata Banerjee made a post on X where she said that the BJP feels threatened by her party and her.

The state of West Bengal is expected to go into elections soon. Many in the political circles believe that the recent turn of events such as Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Humayun Kabir‘s new party move have brought Mamata Banerjee to her knees. The court verdict will be out soon and it needs to be seen if the Calcutta High Court would find the sitting CM guilty of obstructing a central investigative agency and forcibly taking evidence.

After entertaining TV audiences for more than 10 years, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain is finally heading to cinemas. The hit sitcom is getting a film adaptation titled Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain – Fun On The Run. The film is set to release in theatres on February 6, 2026.

The announcement was made on Instagram on January 9. It comes at a time when the show is also making headlines due to fresh comments by OG Angoori Bhabhi Shilpa Shinde. Despite the off-screen noise, the film has already created excitement among fans.

Viewers can expect the same humour that made the show a household favourite. Vibhuti’s flirting, Tiwari’s jealousy, and the everyday chaos of Modern Colony return in full form. Angoori Bhabhi’s iconic “Sahi pakde hain” is back. Anita Bhabhi’s elegance, Happu Singh’s madness and Saxena’s loud “I like it” also make a comeback.

Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain – Fun On The Run will release in theatres on February 6, 2026. The film marks a major moment for the franchise, which first aired on &TV on March 2, 2015.

Inspired by the 1990s sitcom Shrimaan Shrimati, the show quickly built a loyal fan base. Even today, it continues to enjoy strong viewership. Episodes of the show are also available on ZEE5.

The franchise expanded further with the spin-off Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, which launched in 2019. The show focuses on the fan-favourite character Happu Singh. Earlier this year, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain completed 2,500 episodes. The cast and crew celebrated the milestone with a grand cake-cutting event on set.

While the film news brought cheer, it also reminded of the recent controversy. Shilpa Shinde made strong remarks during her return to Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai 2.0. She said there is “no comparison” between herself and Shubhangi Atre.

Shilpa called Shubhangi a “good actress” but added that “comedy is not everyone’s cup of tea”. She also described Shubhangi’s portrayal as that of a “copycat”. According to Shilpa, stepping into an iconic role is not easy. She claimed Shubhangi might have gained more popularity by creating an original character.

Shubhangi Atre later responded to her statement and said that “character is bigger than the artist” (Kirdar kalaakar se bada hota hai). She explained that she was not copying anyone. She was simply following the character as written, including speaking in Bhojpuri. Shubhangi added that she respects Shilpa’s work. She also said every actor brings their own personality to a role over time.

Oscars 2026: Indian cinema has taken another step closer to the global spotlight as several homegrown films have entered the Oscar race. Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, Anupam Kher’s Tanvi The Great and Hombale Films’ Mahavatar Narsimha have made it to the eligibility list for the 98th Academy Awards. This places them among the 201 feature films that can be considered for the prestigious Oscars.

While India’s official entry to the Oscars 2026 is Homebound, these films chose a different route. The makers of Kantara Chapter 1 and Tanvi The Great opted for independent submissions. This approach allows films to compete on their own merit without being the country’s official pick. It shows growing confidence in Indian storytelling.

According to Variety, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has revealed the list of 201 films eligible for the Best Picture category. These films have met all the required criteria set by the Academy. This includes strict theatrical release norms and inclusion standards.

To qualify, each film needed a proper theatrical run in at least 10 of the top 50 US markets. This had to happen within 45 days of its first release in 2025. Filmmakers also had to submit a confidential Representation and Inclusion Standards form. On top of that, films were required to meet at least two of the four Academy inclusion standards.

After clearing all these steps, Mahavatar Narsimha, Kantara Chapter 1 and Tanvi The Great are now official contenders in the Oscar conversation.

Kantara Chapter 1 And Mahavatar Narsimha Enter Oscars 2026 Race

Kantara Chapter 1 continues the legacy of the original film, which became a cultural phenomenon. Directed and written by Rishab Shetty, the film builds on rooted folklore and powerful storytelling. Shetty had earlier won a National Award for his performance in the first Kantara. The prequel has also enjoyed strong critical and commercial success in 2025.

Mahavatar Narsimha (produced by Hombale Films) is another major contender. Directed, written and edited by Ashwin Kumar, the film is an epic devotional action drama. It is also part of a larger cinematic universe planned by the makers. The film stood out for its scale, visuals and mythological depth, which helped it gain attention beyond Indian borders.

Anupam Kher starrer Tanvi The Great also joined the eligibility list through an independent submission. The film’s inclusion highlights the variety of Indian stories now reaching global platforms.

What’s Next In Their Oscar Journey?

It is important to understand what this list means. The Oscar contention list marks the first stage of the Academy Awards process. At this point, films are only declared eligible. They are not yet nominated. Filmmakers who meet the criteria can submit their work across categories by paying fees and completing formal requirements. Academy members then review these films for nominations.

Earlier this year, Marathi cinema also made headlines when Subodh Khanolkar’s Dashavatar entered the Oscar contention list. This shows a wider representation of Indian regional cinema on the global stage.

In November 2025, the Academy had already released eligibility lists for Best Documentary, Animated Feature and International Feature Film. That list included 317 films across categories.

The most awaited moment now is the nominations announcement. The Academy will release the final nominations list on January 22. Only then will it be clear if Kantara Chapter 1 or Mahavatar Narsimha move closer to Oscar glory.

Ahead of the release of the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, the central government has once again urged eligible farmers to complete their mandatory e-KYC process to ensure smooth and timely transfer of ₹2,000 into their bank accounts.

The PM-KISAN scheme, one of India’s flagship farmer welfare programmes, provides financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year to land-holding farmers in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To avoid payment delays or rejection, completing e-KYC has been made compulsory for all beneficiaries.

Multiple e-KYC Options Available for Farmers

Under PM-KISAN, farmers can complete their e-KYC through three methods:

  • OTP-based e-KYC
  • Face authentication-based e-KYC
  • Biometric-based e-KYC

Among these, OTP-based e-KYC is the easiest and can be done online from home, provided the farmer’s Aadhaar is linked with a mobile number.

How to Complete OTP-Based e-KYC for PM Kisan

Farmers can follow these simple steps to complete OTP-based e-KYC:

  1. Visit the official PM-KISAN portal.
  2. On the homepage, go to the ‘Farmers Corner’ section.
  3. Click on the ‘e-KYC’ option.
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number.
