Delhi News: The Indian Road Transport and Highways Ministry has finally given its “in-principle” approval to the Chambal Expressway, also known as the Atal Progress-way.

What’s Special About This Delhi News?

The Atal Progress-way would connect the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway with the Bundelkhand Expressway. It would pass through several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed the progress-way’s in-principle approval. The 42-km expressway, which would be a blend of expansion of existing highway stretches along with the construction of a greenfield section, would cost approximately Rs. 14,000 crore.

A 6-lane access-controlled corridor would be built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). An official remarked the new alignment has been done in such a way that it falls outside wildlife and forest areas as well as the Chambal ravines. It was added that this project will considerably benefit aspirational regions in the three states. The project is also expected to create thousands of short, medium, and long-term employment in the three states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

The corridor will connect Rajasthan’s Kota with Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah and cities in the state of Madhya Pradesh including Bhind and Morena. This will help in significantly reducing the travel time for 10-11 hours to 5-6 hours. Furthermore, the corridor will offer seamlessly connectivity to Kota-Jhansi-Kanpur, Agra-Jhansi and Agra-Kanpur highways.

The Ganga Expressway, one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects, is targeted for completion by 15 February 2026, the CM Yogi Adityanath-led government has confirmed. The deadline was reiterated during a high-level review meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary SP Goyal.

SP Goyal directed all concerned departments to strictly adhere to project timelines, warning that delays in major infrastructure projects could negatively impact investment inflow and employment generation in the state.

CM Yogi Adityanath: Focus on Timely Delivery and Construction Quality

The instructions were issued during a Project Monitoring Group (PMG) review meeting held on Thursday. Senior officials presented progress reports on key flagship projects, including expressways and industrial corridors.

Emphasising accountability, the Chief Secretary stressed that both speed and quality of construction must be maintained, as these projects form the backbone of Uttar Pradesh’s industrial and economic growth strategy.

Ganga Expressway and Industrial Corridor Connectivity

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Ganga Expressway, SP Goyal said the project will play a crucial role in improving regional connectivity and supporting industrial development. He also instructed departments to accelerate land acquisition for the UP Defence Industrial Corridor and projects under the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BUDA).

According to officials, seamless linkage between the Ganga Expressway and industrial corridors is expected to boost logistics efficiency, attract investors and create large-scale job opportunities across multiple districts.

BUDA Master Plan-2045 Gets Deadline

Special emphasis was placed on long-term planning for Bundelkhand. SP Goyal directed officials to complete zonal and sector plans under BUDA’s Master Plan-2045 by 31 March 2026. He noted that timely planning would strengthen the ecosystem around the Ganga Expressway and other regional development corridors.

The Yogi Adityanath government views the Ganga Expressway as a transformative project that will drive industrial expansion, regional balance and employment generation. Officials were reminded that meeting deadlines is critical to sustaining investor confidence and ensuring inclusive growth across Uttar Pradesh.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab’s campaign against drugs has continued with full force as Punjab Police completed 311 days of its flagship anti-narcotics अभियान ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’.

According to official information shared by Punjab Police and ANTF Punjab, large-scale enforcement actions were carried out across the state as part of the sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse.

Bhagwant Mann : Massive Statewide Action Against Drug Network

On the 311th day of the campaign, raids and search operations were conducted at 313 locations across Punjab, targeting drug smugglers and illegal supply chains. As a result, 105 drug traffickers were arrested in a single day, highlighting the intensity of ongoing operations.

Punjab Police stated that the drive includes regular raids, intelligence-based operations and public awareness initiatives, aimed at dismantling drug networks from the grassroots level.

Over 43,000 Drug Traffickers Arrested So Far

Since the launch of Yudh Nashian Virudh, a total of 43,381 drug traffickers have been arrested in the last 311 days, marking one of the most aggressive and sustained anti-drug efforts in the state’s history.

Officials reiterated that the campaign is not limited to enforcement alone but also focuses on prevention, rehabilitation and community participation to ensure long-term impact.

Commitment to a Drug-Free Punjab

The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has repeatedly stressed its zero-tolerance policy towards drugs. Punjab Police has appealed to citizens to actively support the mission and share information related to drug activities.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has announced the schedule for the lottery draw of flats under the Atal Nagar Awasiyojana, a major group housing scheme in the state capital. The lottery for a total of 2,496 residential flats will be conducted over two days on January 8 and January 9, 2026, starting from 9:00 am.

The dispute regarding the relocation of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 matches of Bangladesh, originally fixed inside Indian borders, has escalated into a dispute between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council, with the ICC chairman, Jay Shah, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India firmly in the driving seat.

Bangladesh formally asked for Group C matches

The matches set to be played in Kolkata and Mumbai, be shifted to a neutral site such as Sri Lanka. The BCB explained that it shifted the matches due to security concerns for their players and staff, following an order from the BCCI to let their Bangladeshi fast bowler, Mustafizur Rahman of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), leave the team to return to Bangladesh from the Indian Premier League 2026.

In answer to this, the ICC, led by Jay Shah, denied the request for the location of the event to be changed, retaining the original schedule and stipulating that Bangladesh must play in India or forfeit points. In essence, the BCB finds itself in a weaker negotiation stance since the ICC has control of the schedule of play for the tournaments.

The BCCI also ruled out the feasibility of changing venues at short notice and stressed that complicated logistics, such as travel and broadcasting arrangements, besides accommodation, were already being finalised.

With the tensions rising, Bangladesh has said that it would not go across the border under such conditions-thus deepening the uncertainty. This development reflects how big-ticket sporting events remain vulnerable to diplomacy and security apprehensions, before being eventually dictated by the strong will of the BCCI position ensured by ICC leadership, cricket administrators say.

CM Yogi Adityanath: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would soon launch a water metro system on the revered Gomti river in Lucknow.

Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh met with Kochi Metro Director Sanjay Kumar reviewed the technical feasibility of running a water metro. The feasibility study assessed whether the Gomti river could support a metro-style water transportation system that would be equipped with state-of-the-art passenger and navigation systems.

More Projects in Pipeline by CM Yogi Adityanath

The UP government is also considering similar projects on the Yamuna stretch between Agra and Mathura, some parts of the Ganga in Mathura, Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur and Surha Tal in Ballia.

The state’s transport minister said the water metro system would give the much-needed boost to Uttar Pradesh’s urban transport options in the state. It would also create fresh economic activity, generate employment and support tourism along the riverfront areas. Moreover, the water metro system would be serving as a recreational hotspot for visitors and residents.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection Day 33: Ranveer Singh’s spy action thriller Dhurandhar continues to surprise at the box office, even as it enters the final stretch of its theatrical run. More than a month after release, the film is still pulling steady numbers, proving its strong word of mouth and wide appeal. While daily collections have slowed, the overall performance remains impressive, especially overseas.

As the film inches closer to the end of its run, there’s only one question. Can Dhurandhar defeat SS Rajamouli’s RRR at the global box office? And will it manage to do the same in India before breathing its last in theatres?

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhurandhar earned an estimated Rs 4.75 crore on Day 33. With this, the film’s total India net collection has reached Rs 781.75 crore.

A drop at this stage is expected. Most films slow down even before completing a month in cinemas. Yet, Dhurandhar continues to attract audiences, particularly during evening and night shows. This steady footfall shows that the film still has fuel left, even if the pace has softened.

With daily figures now falling below the Rs 5 crore mark, trade analysts believe the film could cross RRR’s Rs 800 crore India total. However, expectations remain cautious beyond that point. The Rs 850–900 crore range looks difficult, as the film is clearly in its final phase. In short, Dhurandhar may edge past RRR domestically, but a massive overtake seems unlikely.

Dhurandhar Box Office Collection – Worldwide

The film has already grossed Rs 1,222 crore worldwide. This puts it just Rs 8 crore behind RRR, which ended its global run at Rs 1,230 crore in 2022. Trade experts expect the Ranveer Singh starrer to match or surpass that figure within days.

The overseas response has been outstanding. As of Tuesday, the film’s international earnings touched $31.5 million, despite not releasing in the Middle East. North America has emerged as the biggest win. The film has collected $20 million in the US and Canada alone.

This puts Dhurandhar ahead of RRR ($15.3 million), Jawan ($15.6 million), and Kalki 2898 AD ($18 million) in the region. It is now chasing Baahubali 2, which holds the North America record at $20.7 million. If the current trend continues, that milestone could fall next.

About This Ranveer Singh Starrer

Set against the tense backdrop of Pakistan, Dhurandhar dives deep into terror networks operating out of Lyari. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza Ali Mazari, an undercover Indian spy whose true identity as Jaskirat Singh Rangi unfolds as the story progresses.

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R Madhavan in key roles. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios along with Aditya and Lokesh Dhar’s B62 Studios.

Dhurandhar is the first part of a planned two-film series. The makers have already confirmed that the sequel will release on March 19, 2026.
