From Years of Political Dominance to Sudden Downfall, 5 Powerful Reasons Behind Mamata Banerjee’s Assembly Election 2026 Crushing Defeat

Mamata- Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee: For over a decade, Mamata Banerjee stood as one of India’s most formidable political leaders, steering West Bengal with unmatched authority. Her party, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), consistently secured strong mandates, riding on welfare schemes, grassroots connections, and a powerful regional identity. However, the 2026 assembly election delivered a shocking verdict, one that marked a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape.

5 Key Reasons Behind Mamata Banerjee’s 2026 Election Defeat

1. Strong Anti-Incumbency Wave

After years in power, the TMC faced a growing anti-incumbency sentiment. While initial years were marked by development and welfare-driven governance, many voters began expressing dissatisfaction over issues like unemployment, infrastructure gaps, and local-level governance failures.

2. Organizational Fatigue Within TMC

Long-term dominance often brings complacency. The TMC’s grassroots machinery, once its biggest strength, appeared to weaken in several constituencies. Internal conflicts, lack of coordination, and reduced voter outreach created gaps that opposition parties effectively exploited.

3. Aggressive Opposition Strategy

Mamata Banerjee: The opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), significantly strengthened its presence in West Bengal over the past few years. With a focused campaign, strong leadership projection, and strategic voter targeting, the BJP managed to consolidate anti-TMC votes and present itself as a viable alternative.

4. Controversies and Governance Criticism

Several controversies and allegations surrounding governance impacted public perception. Issues related to corruption, law and order, and administrative inefficiencies became major talking points during the campaign.

5. Shift in Voter Demographics and Expectations

Mamata Banerjee: The aspirations of voters, especially the youth and urban population, have evolved significantly. Employment opportunities, digital growth, and economic development became key priorities. Many voters felt that the existing leadership was not aligning quickly enough with these changing expectations, leading to a shift in voting patterns.

Vijay’s Massive Win Explained! Silent Strategy, Public Trust and Ground Wave That Turned a Debut Party into State’s Dominant Force

Vijay

Vijay: Tamil film superstar Vijay has done what many had once thought unlikely. His first party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, didn’t merely participate in the Tamil Nadu 2026 Assembly elections; it became the biggest force. What began as a “fan-powered” movement has clearly evolved into a much more structured and serious one.

The Quiet Strategy That Succeeded

Unlike the loud and aggressive campaigns, Vijay’s was cool and controlled. A small, tightly-run core team handled everything from digital outreach to organisational planning. The campaign wisely did not attack every opponent and instead portrayed the election as a straight contest with M. K. Stalin. This stopped the vote from being split and gave voters a clear choice.

Winning With the Fan Base

One of the biggest surprise was how TVK transcended Vijay’s loyal fan following. The party took the initiative to involve women, minority communities, Dalits and first-time voters. Especially in urban and semi-urban areas, outreach turned curiosity into real support. It proved that this was not just about star power. It was about building trust.

Public mood was ripe for change

There was also a strong current of displeasure with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and frustration with opposition alliances that many felt have lost their way. Voters weren’t just changing sides. They were searching for something new. Vijay’s screen image as a “common man’s hero” helped and made his promise of change sound credible.

A Youth Wave Like No Other

Vijay: This win was largely thanks to young voters. You could see the surge in participation, from college students to first-time voters. In cities such as Chennai, polling booths were said to be almost fan-like. TVK was built a network of local influencers, student groups and community leaders who helped turn excitement into real votes. There was also a strong social media presence and focused promises on jobs and welfare.

‘What’s Wrong With Vicky Kaushal…’ Netizens Displeased With Chhaava Actor, Don’t Want 3 Idiots Sequel

Vicky Kaushal has found himself at the center of a fresh online debate after reports suggested he may join the sequel to 3 Idiots. The buzz around the actor playing a key role in the upcoming film has not gone down well with a section of netizens. Many users have openly questioned his career choices, with some even opposing the idea of a sequel altogether.

According to reports, Vicky Kaushal is being considered for an important role in the film, tentatively titled 4 Idiots. The project is expected to bring back the original trio – (Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi) while introducing a new character as the ‘fourth idiot’. Sources say Vicky has shown interest in the role, and discussions are already underway.

Vicky Kaushal In Talks For ‘4 Idiots’

The sequel is being directed by Rajkumar Hirani, who is currently working on the script with his long-time collaborator Abhijat Joshi. The film is still in the writing stage, with the team aiming to match the legacy of the original. If all goes as planned, production may begin in the second half of 2027, with a storyline set nearly a decade after the events of 3 Idiots.

Vicky Kaushal, who has earlier worked with Hirani on Sanju and Dunki, is said to have liked the script. His role is expected to add a fresh emotional layer to the story while blending with the journey of the original characters.

A source quoted by Pinkvilla said, “Multiple meetings between Vicky, Aamir and Hirani have already taken place, and Vicky has verbally agreed to play the part of 4th Idiot, though the timelines have to align for the entire ensemble.”

Netizens Slam Vicky Kaushal’s Reported Move

Soon after the news surfaced, social media reactions poured in. Many users expressed disappointment and felt the actor should focus on solo projects instead of joining an ensemble cast.

A Reddit user said, “wtf is wrong with Vicky. He wasted the momentum of Chhaava by wasting 2 years on love and war, where he will play second fiddle to Ranbir. Now he will play second fiddle to Aamir, who has his own downfall going on. Ranbir or Ranveer would never play a second fiddle to any 90s superstar. This was Vicky’s time to give solo blockbusters.”

Another commented, “Won’t be a good idea if Vicky does this. He has already committed a gore mistake by doing love and war.”

A third user said, “Vicky should say no to Rajkumar Hirani this time.”

A troll added, “Yeh kabhi superstar nhi bann payega.”

One more shared, “This movie will never go on the floors, will never get made. amir is justing throwing a bowl of noodles at the wall to see which bits stick at this point.”

The reactions clearly show that a section of fans is not convinced about the sequel or Vicky’s reported involvement in it.

Vicky Kaushal To Shoot Mahavatar Next

Before stepping into this project, Vicky Kaushal is expected to complete work on his upcoming film Mahavatar, which will reportedly have a long shooting schedule. The actor was last seen in the blockbuster Chhaava and has been focusing on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War since then.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan has confirmed that the sequel is in development. The story is expected to explore the lives of the characters after a 10-year gap, adding new conflicts and perspectives.

The saree was paired with a signature sculptural cape, adding a modern twist to the traditional drape. The blouse stood out with heavy jewellery work. It was decorated with over 1800 carats of diamonds, emeralds and polki. Some of these stones came from Nita Ambani’s private collection, including 200 old mine-cut diamonds.

The look also featured a historic touch. At the back, there was a sarpech from the famous collection of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Isha completed her look with a mango-shaped sculpture by artist Subodh Gupta and a unique gajra made from paper, copper and brass.

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar made a strong debut at the Met Gala 2026. He turned the famous red carpet into a display of art and Indian heritage. His custom outfit quickly grabbed attention online. Within minutes, social media was full of reactions. Many users even compared his look to Shah Rukh Khan.

Karan Johar’s look was not only fashion, but also a bold statement. Designed by Manish Malhotra, the outfit stood out for its size, detail and cultural touch. Many praised how confidently he followed the Met Gala theme.

A ‘Living Painting’ Inspired By Raja Ravi Varma

For his MET Gala 2026 debut, Karan Johar wore a custom Manish Malhotra outfit called “Framed in Eternity.” It was inspired by the famous 19th-century painter Raja Ravi Varma. The look mixed fashion with fine art. It included a structured vintage jacket with strong shoulders and a dramatic, nearly six-foot hand-painted cape.

Johar chose Varma’s work for its emotional depth. He said the artist “painted feelings,” just like he tries to do in his films. The outfit showed detailed Indian craftsmanship. It took 5,600 hours of work by over 80 artisans in 85 days. The team did not use any digital tools. They used traditional methods like zardozi, dori work and 3D sculpting.

The cape was the main highlight. It had 3D designs of lotuses, swans, and pillars. Artists used acrylic and oil paints to give it the shine of a real painting. To complete the look, Johar wore a multi-gemstone necklace and rings from his brand Tyaani. He also added tinted glasses from R Kumar Opticians, giving it a modern touch.

Punjab Police crush Pakistan-backed ‘drone–drugs–guns’ nexus, ₹65 crore gangster assets frozen under ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’

Punjab Police

In a massive crackdown on organised crime in Punjab’s border-sharing villages, the Tarn Taran Police, under Punjab Police’s “zero tolerance against gangsters” policy, have come down heavily on the drug trade involving Pakistan, which had been enabling gangsters to finance and run their illegal operations in the state.

Over the past three months, since the‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ by the Bhagwant Mann government the district police have registered 490 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, arrested 630 individuals, and recovered 47.527 kg of heroin.

Sharing the details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran, Surendra Lamba, said that despite challenges from across the border, the state police have zeroed in on gangster networks receiving logistical support from Pakistan. “So far, we have frozen assets worth Rs 65 crore within a year, most of it in the last three months. These assets were directly or indirectly linked to gangsters and drug smugglers and were being used to run their operations. As we share a long border (around 102 km) with Pakistan, the hostile neighbour has been actively involved in sending narcotics and weapons via drones. Smuggling techniques have rapidly evolved in recent times, but with a clear mandate to curb crime, the district police have implemented a targeted strategy to stop these illegal activities,” said SSP Lamba.

In 2024, as many as 313 cases were registered, leading to 358 arrests and the recovery of 115 kg of heroin. Last year, 1,334 cases were registered, resulting in 1,662 arrests, with over 244 kg of heroin recovered.

The “drone–drugs–guns” nexus has emerged as a high-tech operational model in border regions. Through the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ operation, the police have tightened their grip on such networks. Drug trafficking and illegal arms supply are being used by gangs to strengthen their financial base, while also recruiting local operatives to execute major criminal activities.

According to police officials, drugs and weapons are being continuously dropped into Indian territory via drones launched from across the border. These consignments are then collected from border areas and distributed to various cities, with youth being specifically targeted. This remains a major source of income for organised criminal syndicates.

“Small drones can carry loads ranging from 0.5 to 12 kg, while larger drones can drop up to 25 kg in a single sortie. These drones can penetrate 5 to 15 kilometres into Indian territory, posing significant challenges for security agencies,” said SSP Lamba, adding that despite being the second line of defence, the district police have delivered strong results through intelligence-led operations.

The district police alone have registered 1,736 related cases and arrested over 2,200 individuals under the ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ and ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, aimed at dismantling networks operated from foreign soil. Under the recently conducted “Operation Prahar”, 236 accused were arrested within six days, including 10 proclaimed offenders. During the operation, 3.5 kg of heroin was recovered. A total of 50 teams, each comprising 10 police personnel, were deployed.

“Anti-drone systems and round-the-clock patrolling have been deployed to monitor suspicious activity. Recovered drones have revealed cameras, GPS systems, and pre-fed route maps, highlighting the technological sophistication of smugglers. Recently, a 10 kg heroin consignment was recovered. Gangsters are using drug and arms proceeds to strengthen their networks. Local operatives are used for extortion, with threats issued via phone calls. In cases of non-payment, firing incidents are used to create fear and enforce compliance,” added SSP Lamba.

In recent developments under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ operation, police have arrested several accused, including two shooters, along with financiers, operators, and 14 associates. Monitoring of social media accounts and banking transactions has also been intensified, with several cases revealing the use of bank accounts in other people’s names.

“The state police are going a step further by leveraging artificial intelligence to counter the advanced technology and mobility used by gangsters and criminal networks. Much of the success of this campaign can be attributed to the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ and ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’ operation, which has significantly helped dismantle these networks and curb drug trafficking,” SSP Lamba confirmed.

Additionally, drones, weapons, motorcycles, and mobile phones have been seized.

Lifeline Through Bhagwant Mann Govt’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana; Free Knee Surgery for 65-Year-Old Mother Brings Tears of Joy to Son’s Eyes

CM Mann

For 65-year-old Kewal Kaur from village Panwa (Dasuya) in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, April 17 marked the beginning of a new life. For years, she had been battling unbearable knee pain that had reduced her world to a few painful steps. Walking without a stick had become impossible, and each day felt like a struggle against helplessness.

Today, the mother is slowly finding her way back onto her feet, without the burden of financial stress, thanks to the Bhagwant Mann government’s health initiative.

Under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, her knee replacement surgery was successfully performed at Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Jalandhar. What once seemed out of reach, an operation costing nearly ₹1.5 lakh, was completed entirely free.

Her son, Mandeep Singh, a farmer, recalls the difficult years with a heavy voice. For nearly five years, his mother lived in constant pain. They consulted multiple doctors, tried medicines, but nothing brought relief. Eventually, her condition worsened to the point where she couldn’t take a single step without support.

“When my mother became completely dependent, surgery was our only hope,” he says.

Mandeep had earlier read about the scheme in a newspaper and registered for a health card, a decision that would change their lives. After completing the hospital formalities, the surgery was performed on April 17 by Dr. Anit Sachar and his team in a procedure that lasted about two hours.

Recovery has begun, and with it, a quiet return of dignity. Though the stitches are still in place and will be removed soon, the pain that once defined Kewal Kaur’s days has begun to fade. In its place, there is relief; and a smile that had long been missing.

Fighting back tears, she says, “Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is like a third son to me. My operation was done without spending a single rupee. I am no longer a burden on anyone. Life will be easier now.”

For the family, this was not just medical treatment, it was a restoration of self-respect. Mandeep shares that while his own children live abroad and financial help was possible, the scheme gave them something deeper: independence and dignity.

He also revealed that Kewal Kaur was not alone. Around five other elderly patients from Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and nearby villages underwent similar knee surgeries under the same scheme. Apart from about ₹2,400 spent on initial tests, the entire treatment was free.

According to Mandeep, the scheme’s provision of free treatment up to ₹10 lakh is nothing short of a blessing for middle- and lower-income families.

Kewal Kaur’s story is more than just a successful surgery, it is a powerful reminder that when the right help arrives at the right time, it can restore not just health, but hope, dignity, and the will to live again.

BJP’s hands drenched in blood of 700 farmers, Punjab will not forget farm law humiliation: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann

CM Mann

Lashing out at BJP for meting out step motherly treatment with the state, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the saffron party can win from any state in the country but it should never dream of winning from this land of great Gurus, saints, seers, prophets and martyrs.

Interacting with media, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The people of Punjab are well aware of the dubious character of the BJP and they will definitely teach it a lesson, as Punjabis can never forget how the food growers of the state were humiliated during the protest against the farm laws, and the hands of the BJP were drenched with the blood of more than 700 farmers who attained martyrdom during this agitation.”

Highlighting the party’s record in Punjab, the Punjab CM said, “Though the BJP is buoyed over electoral gains in some states, as far as Punjab is concerned there is a long saga of injustice and step motherly treatment, as it wants to deprive Punjab of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Bhakra Dam and every legitimate right, and has stalled the legitimate share of grants of the state just to jeopardize Punjab’s development.”

Dismissing BJP’s prospects in the state, he continued, “Rather than building castles in the air, the BJP leadership should forget that it will ever assume power in Punjab as its sins against the state and its people are unpardonable, and with what face will it come to Punjab when its leaders have never raised the issues of the state and its people, as the brave and wise people of Punjab will never forget these misdeeds and will teach them a befitting lesson.”

Listing healthcare achievements, the Chief Minister added, “A total of 990 Aam Aadmi Clinics are providing free treatment across the state and this number will soon reach 1400, with 107 medicines and 47 types of diagnostic tests available free of cost, strengthening people’s trust in government healthcare institutions, as thousands of people visit these clinics daily and the OPD has already crossed 5 crore.”

Highlighting universal healthcare coverage, the he further added, “To provide comprehensive healthcare, the state government has launched Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, the first scheme of its kind in the country that provides cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh for every resident family, bringing immense pride as it reduces financial burden and ensures quality healthcare, with every family entitled to these free facilities and encouraged to enrol.”

“The state government has started Mawan Dhiyan Satikar Yojna under which every woman will get ₹1,000 per month and women from Scheduled Castes will get ₹1,500 per month, with funds directly transferred to bank accounts and even those already receiving social security pensions being eligible, benefiting 97 percent of women with ₹9,300 crore allocated,” he shared.

Detailing irrigation initiatives, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Punjab government has laid 14,000 kilometres of pipes and watercourses to support farmers across every corner of the state, releasing 21,000 cusecs of water which is equal to the supply of two Bhakra canals, significantly helping farmers meet their irrigation needs. Recharge points have been created in canals and rivers to enhance water levels by two to four metres, ensuring the wellbeing of future generations as Punjab’s existence depends on water, and the tax money of the people is being judiciously spent on welfare, with people’s money returning to them through development, schools, hospitals and roads.”

Listing governance achievements, he continued, “The state government is working for the people by providing free electricity to 90 percent households, giving over 65,000 jobs without corruption, improving roads, closing toll plazas to save ₹70 lakh daily, and building infrastructure, while emphasising that no freebee or concession can eliminate poverty and only education can uplift people and improve their standard of living.”

On education and agriculture, the Chief Minister said, “Due to the efforts of the state government, students of government schools are excelling in exams like JEE and NEET, and for the first time in history uninterrupted power supply of more than eight hours has been given to farm tube wells during paddy season, with daytime electricity for irrigation transforming farmers’ lives, as every penny of the state exchequer is being used for public welfare.”

Attacking traditional parties, he asserted, “Leaders of traditional parties had misled people for a long time but now people are not being influenced by their propaganda, as they have been ousted despite living in palatial houses during their time in power, marking a new era where those once considered invincible have been pushed into political oblivion.”

On accountability and ‘beadbi’, Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “People have taught a befitting lesson to such arrogant leaders who never cared for the common man and remained confined within their grand residences, and those who sought votes in the name of Gurbani committed grave disrespect as incidents of ‘beadbi’ (sacrilege) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji took place during their tenure without action against the culprits.”

“The government has passed the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026 unanimously, which provides harsher punishment and will end such incidents in future by ensuring no one dares to commit this heinous crime, as these acts were part of a deep conspiracy to disturb peace, brotherhood and communal harmony,” he stated.

The Punjab Chief Minister added, “Anyone found guilty of this unpardonable offence will not be spared and strict action will be taken as a deterrent, as Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is revered as the father of every Sikh and it is the duty of the government to ensure its safety, with people across the world appreciating this historic step.”

Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Badal family is opposing this Act, which is unfortunate as they are indulging in politics even on such an issue, while he will undertake a Shukrana Yatra from Sri Anandpur Sahib from May 6 to May 9 to pay obeisance at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Damdama Sahib, Mastauana Sahib, Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib and Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to thank the Almighty.”

He feels fortunate to commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji and the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass ji, and the government will celebrate this occasion in an unparalleled manner to spread Guru ji’s message of equality across the globe.

Highlighting ongoing celebrations, the Punjab Chief Minister said, “Year long events have begun to celebrate the 650th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Maharaj ji, who preached the welfare of humanity and equality, envisioning a society free from suffering, and the government has sought blessings and suggestions from Sant Samaj to organise these celebrations globally.”

He concluded by stating, “It is a matter of immense pride that these celebrations are being held during his tenure and the government will ensure they are conducted with full religious fervour, while representatives of Sant Samaj have been urged to guide and contribute to shaping these programmes.”

On the occasion, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond and others were also present.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurates 250 Pendu Khed Maidan with world-class facilities, says international-level athletes will emerge from Punjab’s villages

Punjab news

Punjab’s villages are being put at the centre of a sweeping sports transformation, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurating 250 ‘Pendu Khed Maidans’ (rural sports grounds) equipped with world-class facilities and laying out an ambitious roadmap to develop 3,100 such grounds across the state by July 15. Declaring sports as a direct response to the challenge of drug abuse among youth, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government, led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, is not just building infrastructure but backing it with free training, professional coaches, and fully equipped grounds designed to produce athletes capable of competing at national and international levels.

The scale of investment underlines this shift, with the sports budget rising from under ₹200 crore earlier to ₹1,790 crore, alongside efforts to revive Punjab’s sporting legacy through the return of the Kila Raipur ‘Pind Olympics’. With Punjab also set to host the Asian Hockey Championship for the first time, the Bhagwant Mann government is signalling a clear intent to place the state firmly on the national and global sports map while driving development in every village from the same treasury that previous governments had claimed was empty.

After inaugurating 250 newly constructed Pendu Khed Maidans, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the AAP Government is undertaking a large-scale push to transform the state’s sports ecosystem, with a clear focus on steering youth away from drugs and channelising their energy into productive avenues. “Promotion of sports culture can be the most effective tool in the state government’s crusade against drugs. With the promotion of sports, the unbounded energy of the youth is being utilised for excelling in sports. The youth who are involved in sports have no time even to look at drugs because they are using all their might to excel in their respective fields,” he said.

He added, “This will go a long way in eliminating the curse of drugs from the state and making the youth an equal partner in socio-economic development.”

Detailing the масштаб of the initiative, the Chief Minister said, “With the objective of ensuring a healthy body and a sound mind, the Punjab Government is developing 3,100 Pendu Khed Maidans equipped with modern facilities across the state in the first phase, at a cost of ₹1,250 crore. Out of these, 250 grounds are being dedicated to the public today, and all 3,100 will be dedicated by July 15.” He further outlined the phased rollout, stating, “250 grounds have been dedicated today, 500 will be dedicated on May 15, 250 on May 31, 500 on June 15, 1,000 on June 30 and 600 on July 15.”

Emphasising the role of these grounds in the anti-drug campaign, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “These Pendu Khed Maidans will play a revolutionary role in the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign. They will encourage youth to stay away from substance abuse and help them achieve their dreams of winning medals at national and international levels. These grounds will act as a beacon of hope and opportunity for budding players and will promote sports culture in Punjab.”

Highlighting the facilities, he said, “Each ground will have fenced boundaries with plantation along the perimeter and a six-foot-wide walking track with floodlights for early morning and evening use. There will be courts for volleyball, football, and hockey along with additional courts based on locally popular sports.” He added, “Facilities will also include a 400-metre six-lane running track, high-capacity lighting, submersible pumps with sprinkler systems, concrete benches, children’s play areas, toilets for men and women, wheelchair ramps, and storage for sports equipment.”

On training and support, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Special focus is being laid on distributing sports kits and equipment and imparting quality training to the youth. Football and volleyball coaches will be appointed at all grounds, and free training will be provided to children so that they can excel at national and international levels.” He further said, “Village Sports and Fitness Committees will be formed for maintenance of these grounds.”

Underlining the financial commitment, he said, “The state has witnessed a historic increase in the sports budget, with ₹1,791 crore allocated for 2026–27. A new sports policy introduced in 2023 ensures financial support for preparation, including ₹15 lakh for Olympics and ₹8 lakh for Asian Games.” He added, “Paris Olympics bronze medal-winning hockey players were awarded ₹1 crore each, Asian Games gold medallists were also awarded ₹1 crore each, and nine Olympic medalists have been given PCS and DSP jobs.”

Speaking about grassroots participation, the Chief Minister said, “‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’ has fostered a strong sports culture in the state. These games were organised for three years to prepare youth for national and international competitions, with 5 lakh players participating in 2024–25 and ₹97.3 crore spent over three years.”

On reviving traditional sports, he said, “Kila Raipur Rural Games have earned global recognition as the ‘Mini Olympics’. On July 11, 2025, the Punjab Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Act, 2025, enabling the revival of traditional rural sports such as bullock cart races. After 2014, this year’s races once again became a major attraction.”

Highlighting Punjab’s growing stature in sports, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “It is a matter of immense pride that for the first time Punjab has got the opportunity to host an international event in the form of the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey. Despite strong Punjabi representation, Punjab had never hosted a major hockey tournament until now. Matches will be held at Balbir Singh Sr. Hockey Stadium and Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann connects with village athletes, distributes kits & joins women players on the volleyball court

Adding a personal and encouraging touch to the event, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann interacted closely with young athletes from the village, distributed sports kits, and felicitated them for their enthusiasm and dedication towards sports. In a gesture that drew appreciation from the gathering, he also actively joined women athletes on the volleyball court, playing alongside them and motivating them to pursue sports with confidence and commitment.

The Bhagwant Mann government’s focus is not just on building infrastructure but also on fostering confidence, inclusion, and a strong sporting culture at the grassroots level.

Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond and others were also present on the occasion.

PCOD: Could Polycystic Ovarian Disease Steal Your Motherhood? Nutrition Expert suggests 5 Must-Have Foods As Antidote

PCOD

PCOD: In recent years, Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) has become one of the most common hormonal disorders that affect women of reproductive age. This health complication is characterized by hormonal imbalances, cyst formation in the ovaries, weight gain and irregular menstrual cycles. One of the worst things about PCOD is that it could “steal” your chances of becoming a proud mother.

Thankfully, you can always count on Mother Nature to your rescue. For instance, there are many fruits that could play a surprisingly impactful role.

PCOD And Its Link To Fertility

Women with PCOD often experience insulin resistance, where the body struggles to use insulin effectively. It leads to higher insulin levels, which can disrupt ovulation by increasing androgen (male hormone) production. This hormonal imbalance can delay or prevent the release of eggs from the ovaries, making conception more difficult. Additionally, inflammation and oxidative stress further aggravate symptoms.

The Power Of Fruits In Managing PCOD

Low glycaemic index (GI) fruits, rich in fibre and antioxidants, can help stabilize blood sugar levels and combat inflammation.

Berries-High In Fibre And Low In Sugar

Berries such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are nutritional powerhouses. Rich in antioxidants like anthocyanins, they help reduce oxidative stress and regulate hormonal imbalances.

Including a handful of berries in your breakfast, smoothies or snacks to support better metabolic health and improve ovulatory function over time.

Apple-Rich Source Of Soluble Fibre

Apples are high in soluble fibre, particularly pectin, which helps slow down sugar absorption and maintain stable blood glucose levels. They also support gut health, which is increasingly linked to hormonal balance. A healthy gut microbiome can influence estrogen metabolism and reduce inflammation.

Pear (Nashpati)-Excellent Fibre Ally

Pear, or nashpati, is another excellent fruit for PCOD management. It has a low glycaemic index and is packed with dietary fibre, which aids digestion and improves insulin sensitivity. Pears are also hydrating and help detoxify the body by supporting liver function. Add sliced pear to salads or enjoy it as a snack can help maintain satiety and reduce cravings for unhealthy, high-sugar foods.

Kiwi-Good For Hormonal Health

Kiwi has a powerful nutritional profile and loaded with vitamin C, which helps reduce inflammation and supports immune function. It can help lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels.

Orange-Treats Inflammation And Oxidative Stress

Oranges are rich in vitamin C, fibre and flavonoids that help combat inflammation and oxidative stress.

Breast Cancer: Could Your High Body Fat Turn Carcinoma Into A Deadly Rampage? Health Specialist Weighs In

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer: Medical Practitioners across the world have warned repeatedly that obese or overweight women are at an increased risk of acquiring breast cancer (carcinoma). This is primarily because the accumulation of body fat could easily translate into hormonal imbalances, chronic inflammation and insulin resistance – all of which promote the growth and progression of cancer.

How Obesity Causes Cancer?

The accumulation of excess fat in the body could translate to low-grade, persistent inflammation to trigger the release of toxic chemicals that may damage DNA while promoting the growth of abnormal cells.

Excess fat tissue could also increase the production of estrogen in the body. The hormone is associated with cancers such as endometrial and breast cancer. Moreover, increased insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) and insulin in the body caused due to excess body fat could also stimulate the proliferation of cancerous cells in the body, resulting in tumour formation and uncontrolled growth.

Also, fat cells (adipocytes) could produce chemicals known as adipokines that may inhibit or promote cell growth, increasing the risk of cancer development.

Obesity And Breast Cancer Prevention

It is highly recommended that you should on losing excess body fat, naturally. A diet rich in lean protein, whole grain and fresh fruits & vegetables could be your best bet to lose body fat safely and naturally. It is also advised that you must engage in at least 120-150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week to reduce inflammation and maintain a healthy body weight. Moreover, you should opt for regular health screenings and reduce the intake of alcohol and nicotine if it cannot be curbed completely.
