On Thursday, 12 February 2026, a Bharat Bandh (nationwide lockout) will take place due to the efforts of a coalition of 10 central trade unions and farmers’ associations who oppose the government’s policies related to (among other things) the new labour codes and impending free trade agreements.

Why Is the Bharat Bandh Called?

Trade unions – like INTUC, AITUC, HMS and CITU, etc. – and farmers’ unions, including the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, are calling for three things:

  • The removal of 4 (four) new labour codes that came into effect in 2025, which they believe remove protection for employees.
  • Opposition to several trade agreements (including the India/US free trade agreement) that adversely affect farmers.
  • Other policy changes concerning employment schemes and social welfare.

What Might Be Closed?

Banks

Banks in the public sector have called for strike action by their employees because the Reserve Bank of India has not designated February 12 as a “banking holiday”. Bank branches may have service disruptions during the strike period. Activities in branches that routinely take place will experience delays, such as cash transactions and cheque clearances. Digital banking, ATMs, and online banking services should be unaffected.

Schools & Colleges

Education facilities don’t have one universal rule for closure from the government. Individual education facilities and/or individual states may choose to remain closed or issue facility closures or local advisories due to transportation problems for deliverability of students and/or disruption in teacher support because of the bandh.

Transport & Markets

Marches and blockades related to the protests may result in delays or cancellations of some public transportation services (e.g., taxi services, state-run bus & train services, etc.). Affected areas may have reduced availability of retail businesses or local markets during protest hours, which could impact all or some portions of the day.

What Will Remain Open?

Essential services such as hospitals, pharmacies, ambulances, water, electricity, and medical emergency services are expected to be running as per normal. Airports and train services will generally run; however, travelers should anticipate delays with respect to road congestion.

Delhi Metro: The Magenta Line in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) is all set to emerge as the Delhi Metro Network’s longest corridor. It would feature the highest count of underground and interchange stations, enhancing cross-city connectivity across the Delhi NCR region.

Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director (Corporate Communications) of DMRC, remarked that the complete length of the Line 8 (Magenta Line) that stretches from Botanical Garden in Noida to Inderlok in Delhi would be about 89 kilometres, making it the Delhi Metro Network’s longest corridor. It was also added that the metro line would be functioning entirely as a driverless metro corridor once it is fully operational.

Delhi Metro-Names Of Interchange Stations

As of now, Magenta Line’s operational stretch has 4 interchange stations in Botanical Garden, Kalkaji Mandir, Janakpuri West and Hauz Khas. Going forward, an additional 17 interchange stations would be added under Phase V (A) and Phase IV.

These include Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Peeragarhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Kalindi Kunj, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, Nabi Karim, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi and Inderlok.

It was remarked by the officials that Azadpur, New Delhi, Inderlok and Central Secretariat would become interchange stations, providing seamless connectivity with 3 different Metro lines each.

Number Of Stations

The Magenta Line corridor once completed from Botanical Garden to Inderlok would have as many as 65 stations. Forty of these stations would be underground stations.

Interestingly, Haiderpur Badli Mor on the Magenta Line corridor is the Delhi Metro’s highest elevated station at 28.362 metres at Pier no. 340 while Hauz Khas also on the same metro line is the deepest underground metro station at about 29 metres.

Thailand Mass Shooting: In one of the bloodiest massacres of Thailand, a gunman killed 22 children and 12 adults at a Hat Yai district school in Southern Thailand.

All the hostages have been freed and the attacker has been detained by police.

Thailand Mass Shooting-The Turn Of Events

An 18-year-old man sneaked into the Patongprathankiriwat School in Hat Yai of the Songkhla Province with a gun.

Deputy Superintendent Wichian Soboon commented that the perpetrator of the heinous crime has been successfully captured. Mae Taptim Yala Foundation, which first reported the Thailand mass shooting on its Facebook social media page, confirmed that an injured teacher of the district school was immediately rushed to the hospital.

According to authorities, an unknown number of teachers and students were taken hostage by the perpetrator. Armed policemen immediately arrived at the scene as hundreds of young people were seen fleeing onto the roads in a complete panic mode. However, many teachers and pupils were unable to run away and stayed trapped inside the school building.

Past Massacre

In October 2022, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed shock and sadness at the tragic shooting in Thailand’s northern province of Nong Bua Lamphu. The incident happened at an early childhood development centre where dozens of people were killed, including many young children.

In a statement, UNICEF had remarked that time it condemns all forms of violence against children and added that no child should ever be a witness or target of violence anytime anywhere. It was also commented that early childhood schools, development centres and learning spaces must be safe havens for young children to grow, play and learn during their most critical years.

Bhagwant Mann: Punjab has a very bad problem with freshwater. Every year, the state takes out about 5.2 billion cubic meters of groundwater, which causes an average yearly drop of 0.7 meters. In 115 of the 153 blocks, the water level has gone above what is safe for extraction, and in some areas, it has been used more than 150% of its refilling capacity.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the situation could not continue and warned that agriculture could be hurt permanently if things are not changed right away.

The campaign to “Say No to King Paddy”

The state started the “Say No to King Paddy” effort to get people to stop using too much water for King Paddy. The slogan is aimed at paddy types that need a lot of water, like Pusa 44, and tells farmers to switch to crops that need less water.

Groundnut, maize, cotton, and basmati rice are some of the options that the government is pushing. Also, officials are telling farmers to use direct-seeded rice (DSR), a method that can cut water use by 15–20 per cent per acre while keeping returns the same.

A 14-point plan to save water

The Mann government passed a 14-point action plan for long-term sustainability in the middle of 2025. In order to keep water from evaporating, the plan calls for switching 1.58 million hectares to drip and sprinkler watering systems and building more underground pipeline networks.

The government will also fix up 63,000 kilometres of canals and move water from the surface into village ponds so that they can be used for lift irrigation. To make sure that tracking is done locally and distribution works well, the state is planning to set up Water User Associations.

According to videos from the venue, Jasmine spotted two men allegedly harassing female fans. Visibly upset, she paused the concert and addressed the situation from the stage.

EPFO: The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is all set to launch a series of out-of-the-box digital transformation measures with the launch of EPFO 3.0 that would be rolled out for everyone in the coming few months.

The overhaul of the EPFO is aimed at providing faster and reliable facilities, modernizing the statutory body, introducing new facilities and minimizing claim settlement times.

What Is EPFO 3.0?

EPFO 3.0 is an integral part of the Union Government’s broader push to deliver citizen-centric services by strengthening digital public infrastructure, powered by faster turnaround times and minimal paperwork.

The new upgrade would deliver a new sigh of relief for employees and other stakeholders while streamlining the entire system.

How Would The Upgraded Platform Help Stakeholders?

EPFO 3.0 is aimed at offering near-real-time claims processing services, enhanced user experiences and better grievance handling services to Employee Provident Fund members. The upgraded platform would significantly reduce delays in processing claims arising from employer approvals and technical mismatches.

In addition to these advantages, the upgraded platform would minimize dependency on manual approvals in a significant majority of routine cases.

One of the most interesting and much-awaited announcement was the launch of a UPI-based withdrawal facility. Presently, EPF withdrawals made to the employees are sanctioned through conventional bank transfers that often take countless days. The UPI integration feature would facilitate instant and seamless transfer of eligible funds to the linked bank accounts of citizens, bypassing the dreaded process of traditional claim filing.

The feature would facilitate partial withdrawals under permissible categories like education, housing, medical emergencies and other approved purposes.

EPFO would also introduce the facility of providing Doorstep Digital Life Certificates to EPS pensioners. Presently, these pensioners face a series of challenges in accessing the services. Moreover, they need to physically visit the EPFO offices to collect these certificates.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the arrangements for the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit to be held from March 13-15 in Mohali, envisioning it as a decisive step towards accelerating industrial growth in the state.

Addressing the meeting, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The Progressive Punjab Investment Summit slated to be held on March 13-15 in Mohali will act as a catalyst to further give a major push to the industrial development in the state, which has already emerged as a favorite investment destination across the globe.” He added, “This historic summit will offer a healthy platform to transform the destiny of the state by giving a major push to industrial development.”

Emphasising the need for collective deliberation, theChief Minister stated, “A consensus will be evolved to further chalk out a pro-industry action plan for the overall industrial development in the state after marathon discussions with international industrial giants.” Highly appreciating the leadership qualities and entrepreneurial skills of Punjabis, he remarked, “Punjabis can do wonders anywhere in the world with their grit and stamina.”

Highlighting the theme of the summit, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The summit will be held on the theme of ‘Punjab Means Business – Policy to Practice.’” He informed that the state government has already organised roadshows at Gurugram, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai and in foreign countries like Japan, South Korea and others. He further stated, “The key sessions during the summit will include Inaugural, Valedictory, Country Sessions, Plenary, Sectoral Sessions and others.”

Terming the event a major opportunity for investors, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “The investors’ summit will be a platform to showcase the investment opportunities in the state offering maximum incentives across the nation.” He added, “The Punjab Government has received a huge response not only from industrial giants in India but also from across the globe to participate in this mega event.” Reiterating his commitment, he said, “The state’s mainstay agriculture has already reached a plateau and massive industrialization is the only solution for the rejuvenation of the stagnated economy.”

The Chief Minister further said, “The state government has taken path breaking initiatives to emerge Punjab as the most preferred investment destination not only in the country but across the globe,” and urged prospective entrepreneurs to invest in the state in a big way. He added, “The state Government is committed to give a boost to the investment and industrial infrastructure in the state and with its earnest efforts, it has so far roped in investment proposals worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore which will create 5.20 lakh job opportunities for the youth.”

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Leading companies like Tata Steel, Sanatan Textiles and others are making a beeline to invest in the state and to attract more, the state government is organizing this Progressive Punjab Investment Summit on March 13-15 at Mohali.”

Focusing on reforms, the Chief Minister said, “The Punjab Government has introduced Green stamp paper in the registration of sale deeds to ensure faster and smooth issuance of regulatory clearances to industry projects.” He added, “Punjab is the only state which can rightly boast of its congenial industrial climate coupled with skilled manpower fully capable of catering to the needs of local industry.” Underscoring the importance of energy security, he said, “As power is the engine of growth, the state government has made all out efforts to make Punjab surplus in power.”

He further said, “Top industrial giants from across the country and globe are expected to attend this mega event in the state to firm up their investments.” Bhagwant Singh Mann reviewed the arrangements with senior officers to ensure that the historic summit is organized successfully. He added, “Apart from exhibition, seminars and technical sessions on various aspects of industry, a special focus on emerging technologies and strategies in industry will be laid.”

Earlier, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann also released the logo of the summit. Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

Jaunpur Viral Video: A CCTV clip from a mobile showroom in Uttar Pradesh has shocked viewers and sparked anger online. The video allegedly shows two on-duty police constables stealing an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth Rs 1.62 lakh. Within hours, the footage spread across social media and became a widely discussed Jaunpur viral video.

The incident took place on Saturday (February 7) at around 2 pm. The location was a mobile showroom near the JC intersection in Jaunpur’s Line Bazar area. According to the shop owner Shivam, the two constables entered the store in uniform, appearing like regular customers.

They asked a female salesperson to show them several iPhone models. For nearly 20 minutes, they checked multiple devices and spoke with the staff. Before leaving, they claimed they did not like any phone and exited the showroom.

Soon after, Shivam realised that an iPhone 15 Pro Max was missing. Suspecting foul play, he reviewed the CCTV footage. The visuals allegedly showed the constables handling the phone shortly before leaving.

To confirm their identities, Shivam shared the CCTV clip in a WhatsApp group with around 200 contacts. The response was quick. Several viewers recognised the men as active-duty constables posted in Jaunpur district.

Shivam then filed a formal complaint. He also met City Superintendent of Police (SP) Ayush Srivastava and submitted the footage as evidence.

As the clip circulated online, this Jaunpur viral video triggered strong reactions. Many social media users expressed disbelief, frustration and anger.

Cops Suspended, Investigation Launched

Following the complaint, police registered an FIR and launched an investigation. Senior officials moved quickly, especially as the video gained traction online. According to reports, authorities recovered the stolen iPhone within a day. The phone was returned to the showroom owner.

City SP Ayush Srivastava confirmed that the two accused constables (Dhananjay Bind and Mithilesh Yadav) were suspended with immediate effect. In addition, the department ordered an internal inquiry to examine the matter in detail. Officials stated that strict action would follow if the allegations are proven.

During the inquiry, Shivam shared another detail with investigators. He said that one of the suspended constables had visited the area frequently in the past. According to Shivam, the constable had studied at a digital library located above the showroom until about a year ago. This has raised questions about the officer’s familiarity with the premises.

O Romeo Advance Booking: Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s upcoming film O Romeo is facing a slow start at the box office, at least in terms of early ticket sales. The film, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, has recorded a muted response in advance bookings ahead of its theatrical release on February 13, 2026.

According to the latest trade data, just over 21,000 tickets have been sold nationwide so far. These numbers suggest that the film may open in the single-digit crore range. For a movie led by Shahid Kapoor and releasing just before Valentine’s Day, the expectations were significantly higher.

O Romeo Advance Booking Report

By 3 pm today, O Romeo Advance Booking figures showed around 21,058 tickets sold across India. This has translated into roughly Rs 1.64 crore in gross advance booking revenue, including blocked seats. With two days still left before release, the film has time to pick up momentum. However, the current trend remains modest.

Valentine’s week is traditionally considered a strong window for romantic dramas and love stories. Even action thrillers with a romantic angle tend to benefit from the festive mood. Yet, O Romeo has not fully capitalised on that advantage (at least not yet).

The comparison with 2025’s Deva makes the situation clearer. As per Sacnilk data, Deva grossed Rs 3.29 crore through advance bookings before its release. That figure is nearly double O Romeo’s present tally.

For O Romeo to reach similar levels, ticket sales would need to jump by more than 130% in the final 48 hours. While last-minute surges are not uncommon, such a steep rise would require strong word-of-mouth, aggressive promotions, or a spike in audience interest.

Trade analysts closely monitor advance bookings because they often indicate opening-day collections. Strong pre-sales usually signal excitement among moviegoers. On the other hand, slower bookings may hint at a cautious opening.

Despite the dull pre-sales, industry watchers are not ruling out a turnaround. Shahid Kapoor has previously delivered Valentine’s Day successes. His performance in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2023) showcased his continued appeal in romantic and relationship-driven stories.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol’s Border 2 remains the advance booking leader of 2026 so far, with a reported Rs 12.5 crore gross. While O Romeo is unlikely to challenge that benchmark, it is expected to comfortably surpass Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3, which recorded Rs 1.16 crore in pre-sales.

About The Film

O Romeo draws inspiration from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film explores a darker, grittier side of romance set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s post-independence underworld.

Shahid Kapoor plays Hussain Ustara, a contract killer known for his calm demeanour and deadly precision. His weapon of choice—a barber’s razor—adds a chilling layer to the character. The story takes a dramatic turn when he becomes involved with Afsha, played by Triptii Dimri. Their relationship unfolds as a tense “revenge romance”.

The film features a strong supporting cast, including Nana Patekar as Ismail Khan, Avinash Tiwary as the antagonist Jalal, and Farida Jalal as Dadi. Special appearances by Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani further boost its star power.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate due to intense violence and mature themes. This marks Shahid Kapoor’s first R-rated theatrical release since Kabir Singh.

The film also faced a legal challenge from the family of the real Hussain Ustara, who objected to the portrayal. However, courts cleared the movie for release. With a runtime of 2 hours and 58 minutes, O Romeo now heads to cinemas amid cautious box office predictions.

Whether the film can recover through strong walk-in audiences and word-of-mouth remains to be seen.
