Sara Ali Khan opens up about comparisons with Karisma Kapoor ahead of Coolie No 1 release

Actress Sara Ali Khan is all set for the release of her much-anticipated film Coolie No 1 which is a remake of David Dhawan’s 1995 film. Since it’s a remake, it is obvious for people to draw comparisons between Sara and Karisma, who played the female lead in the original film.

“I think one is not trying to copy Karisma maam or fill in her shoes because she is an institution in herself. While she is extremely inspiring, I would not dare to try to ape her because I would not be able to do so, even if I tried very hard. The only attempt is to , kind of, try and bring to this film, something of my own. For me, it was not as much about following her footsteps, as it was about performing under David sir’s guidance, chemistry with Varun and things like that,” Sara told Bollywood Hungama.

“As far as passive or active character, or screentime is concerned. For me, as an actor, it is exciting to be part of exciting films. I want to be able to do different genres of films. I want to tell interesting stories. In the end, I want to do films that make you laugh. I don’t care whether you laugh at my jokes, or Varun’s or Paresh’s. You are laughing, watching my film. That is what matters for me,” she added.

Coolie No. 1 features Sara opposite Varun Dhawan, who has also been subjected to comparisons with OG Govinda. Not only songs and dialogues, but the script of the origianl film has also been adapted in the new film. The film is slated to stream on Amazon Prime Videos from December 25.

Sara Ali Khan made her acting debut with 2019 film Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. The same year also saw her second film Simmba wherein she was given a very little screen space. Delhi police take Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leader into custody

The Delhi Police stopped the march of Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders, who were going to hand over the signature of 2 crore people to President Ram Nath Kovind in protest against the Agricultural Laws. During this time, Delhi Police took custody of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders. After this, the police took Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders in a bus. Actually, Rahul Gandhi and only two leaders were allowed to go to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Many Congress leaders sat on a dharna outside 10 Janpath due to lack of permission to march. Delhi Police imposed Section 144 around the Congress office.

Priyanka Gandhi said, ‘The young man is the son of a farmer, who is rejecting the voice of the farmers, is adamant on his stubbornness, while the donor of the country is sitting outside in the cold, then what is the honor of the young farmer in the heart of that government? Or is it just your politics, respect for your bourgeois friends? ‘

Farmers’ protests against agricultural laws continue on the 29th day and farmers are constantly demanding the withdrawal of laws. There does not seem to be a consensus between the agitating farmers and the government. The agitating farmers have made a clear announcement that they do not want amendment and discussion is not possible without the withdrawal of agricultural laws. Along with this, there is a demand of farmers that the government enact laws on MSP. On the other hand, the government is trying to tell that the new law is in the interest of farmers and most farmers understand it.

Karnataka on Wednesday joined Maharashtra in imposing restrictions amid concerns over a new COVID-19 variant spreading in the UK . The Karnataka government said night curfew will be in force between 11 pm and 5 am from December 24 till January 1 but midnight mass will be allowed.

Gujarat: Ahmedabad administration had imposed night curfew in the city from 9 pm to 6 am in November until further notice. Ahmedabad is the only city in Gujarat where such a curfew has been imposed, amid a sudden spike in new cases during the festive season. Ahmedabad’s night curfew is the only one not imposed in response to the new strain of coronavirus.

Langer Confident of Aussies will carry momentum in second Test

The Indian team will be without Captain Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami in the second Test starting tomorrow in Melbourne.

Virat Kohli has left for India on paternity grounds while Mohammad Shami has suffered an injury in the first Test match. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Shubhman Gill could take up the spot while KL Rahul is also set to take up the opening slot after Prithvi Shaw’s poor performance in the first Test.

India has a very found memory with the Boxing Day Test from last time against Australia in 2018. Virat and Company have won the match and took a lead of 2-1 in the series last time.

“Of course, no matter what sport you play, if you take two of your stars out,” said Langer on Thursday in reply to a question from media if Kohli and Shami’s absence gives the hosts an advantage.

“Virat Kohli is one of the all-time great players. I think Shami is a real glue for the Indian bowling attack because he is so miserly. He is very skillful. Of course, it gives us an advantage…But we need to keep working hard and follow the processes that we have been following for some time. We know we have to start strongly on Day 1. We know we have to keep the pressure on (Ajinkya) Rahane if he is the new captain for India. So the processes don’t change. Whenever you take the best players out of any cricket team, of course that weakens them. That is the reality. Of course, it gives us an advantage,” he added.

The head coach also praised his team for terrific performance in the first Test and he is also confident to repeat the same in the rest of the series as well.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin shows long-term immunity, no adverse event: Research

Bharat Biotech, who is one of the indigenous frontrunners in developing covid-19 vaccine, in the Phase 1 study of its vaccine candidate showed that long term antibody and T-cell memory responses were developed three months after the shot.

Meanwhile, as per the Phase 2 study, Covaxin showed there are “tolerable safety outcomes with enhanced humoral and cell-mediated immune responses” and further suggested tat the antibodies may persist for six to 12 months.

Covaxin was well tolerated in both dose groups with no serious adverse events, the research paper said.

Covaxin, being developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Virology, is currently undergoing phase-3 trials across various Centres in the country.

The first dose of indigenously developed coronavirus vaccine, Covaxin, has been successfully administered to 1,000 volunteers at Prakhar Hospital as part of phase III trial, reported IANS.

The first group of 1,000 volunteers were reportedly administered on December 5, and thereafter, this drive continued till December 21.

The efficacy of Bharat Biotech will be evaluated post the large Phase 3 clinical trials.

Phase 2 of the clinical trials was conducted across nine hospitals in nine states, reported Indian Express “…this study was conducted with participants from diverse geographic locations, enrolling 380 participants across nine hospitals. The study enrolled participants with a wide range of ages and found no differences in immune responses across age groups,” it quoted the researchers as saying.

Notably, Bharat Biotech is one of three drug makers who have sought emergency use authorisation for its vaccine candidate from Drug Controller General of India(DGCI).

Over 1 million people administered covid-19 vaccine in the US in 10 days

The United State is currently on a vaccination drive and has vaccinated over 1 million people against the coronavirus infection, the reports suggested. The country began its first phase of vaccination on December 14 and in the first 10 days of its campaign, approximately 1.2 million people were administered with the covid-19 shots.

The Unites States is the only country in the world to have two authorised vaccines against the covid-19 pandemic which has claimed hundreds of thousands lives around the world.

The country first approved Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine candidate while recently, Moderna was given the green light, too.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Robert Redfield was quoted by CNN as saying, ” The US achieved an early but important milestone today – jurisdictions have now reported that more than one million people have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine since administration began 10 days ago.”

“With cases of COVID-19 continuing to surge nationwide, this achievement comes at a critical time and will help to protect those on the frontlines — our healthcare providers treating COVID-19 patients — as well as our most vulnerable: elder individuals living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” he added.

In the first phase, healthcare workers around the country who have been tirelessly working amid the pandemic were given the vaccine shots. Apart from them, essential service workers and vulnerable groups are also expected to be receive the vaccine.

Meanwhile, US high officials, including Vice president Mike Pence, President-elect Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden have also been vaccinated with the first dose. According to Biden’s transition team, Vice-president elect Kamala Harris is also expected to administer the vaccine next week.

The US government has said it intends to distribute 20 million first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines in the coming weeks. So far, about 9.5 million doses have been distributed across the country.

Notably, both the vaccines follow two-shot regime with one shot injected after a few weeks of first shot.

Cabinet includes Marathas in Economically Weaker Category

In a major relief for Marathas, the Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday decided to provide reservation to the community under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category for educational admissions and jobs.

The 10 per cent EWS quota is earmarked for those who are not covered under any social reservations.

The Maratha community had been up in arms ever since the court decision. Earlier this week, another order by the Aurangabad bench of the High court expressed dismay that the government hadn’t thought of including the SEBC appointees via the EWS category.

The order was passed after 3 candidates who had qualified for Tahsil level positions said their appointments had been stopped after the SC decision whereas those who had lower marks than them and belonged to the EWS category were being appointed. The High court had then stayed appointments of candidates with lower marks than the petitioners till the next hearing in January. A constitution bench of the Supreme Court is also expected to hear the Maratha reservation case in January.

The next hearing of the case before the constitutional bench of the apex court is scheduled on January 25 next year.

In another decision, the state Cabinet gave its nod to a project for the preservation and conservation of ancient temples in the state. The state PWD department will implement the project, an official release said.

The announcement for preservation and conservation of ancient temples was made by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in the recently-held winter session of the state legislature.

The Cabinet also decided to mark January 3 as “Women’s Education Day” to commemorate the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule. In another decision, the Cabinet gave its consent to waive the license fees for liquor shops for the period of their closure during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

India and China have held several rounds of talks at the diplomatic and military level in the last months to overcome this deadlock, but the solution has not been reached.

He praised the move to establish comfortable accommodation for the soldiers on LAC. The Army said that the Chief of Army Staff also visited Tara, an advanced hideout and spoke to the local commanders and soldiers.
