US President-elect Joe Biden, wife Jill to administer covid-19 vaccine on Monday

US president elect Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden will administer covid-19 vaccine publicly on Monday, his transition team said in a statement.

The announcement comes at a time when the United States has provided regulatory approval to two — Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna — covid-19 vaccine candidates.

According to Biden’s transition team, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will also receive the covid-19 vaccine next month.

Prior to this, a number of high officials in US were vaccinated against the covid-19 infection.

On Friday morning, Vice President Mike Pence, Second Lady Karen Pence and Surgeon General Jerome Adams also received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination on live TV. The aim behind the move was to instill Americans faith in science and in vaccines that have been made after months of tireless research.

The United States started its vaccination drive on Monday after providing approval to Pfizer and BioNTech’s last week. The first person to get the vaccine was Sandra Landsay who in a statement told that she aims to inspire her fellow Americans to take the vaccine and trust the authorities.

In the first phase, the US is vaccinating healthcare workers and nursing home workers who have worked ruthlessly amid the pandemic in a bid to save lives.

For Moderna, the US FDA approval is world’s first. For Pfizer, the US approval came after the UK and Canada authorised nationwide use.

Both these vaccines have proved their efficacy above 90 per cent.

The US, which is also the world’s worst affected country by the pandemic, has ordered 200 million doses of moderna vaccine. Since the vaccine follows two-day regime, the ordered number of doses are sufficient for at least 100 million people.

As of Saturday morning, the virus, which originated in China a year ago, has infected a total of 17,442,180 Americans and killed 313,246 others, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

7th Pay Commission: Salaries of central government workers may rise

Only after the corona virus pandemic had spread in the country, the Modi government at the Center had already announced that dearness allowances would not be paid to central employees and pensioners before June 2021. The government had already made it clear that it would stop cutting dearness allowance only after the stipulated deadline. If the government does so, the pensioners will also get an increased pension along with the increased salary of the employees.

Dearness allowance increases every six months

However, every year the dearness allowance of central employees is announced in July, but this time due to the outbreak of corona virus epidemic in the country, the Modi government announced not to increase dearness allowance in the month of April itself. Keeping in view the fluctuations in the prices of the market, the government decides to increase the dearness allowance for employees after every six months, so that their standard of living can be improved.

In the Coronavirus pandemic, the central government had banned dearness allowance due to lack of economic activity. According to the 7th Pay Commission, dearness allowance should have been given at 21%, but currently this allowance is being given at the rate of 17 percent. The central government has made this arrangement till June 2021.

Earlier in March, the cabinet had increased the dearness allowance by 4 percent. Usually, the government changes the DA twice a year to compensate for the increase in prices. This is another attempt to cut government spending. Earlier, a 30% reduction in the salaries of ministers, PM, President and Members of Parliament was also announced. His MPLADs scheme has also been suspended for two years to allocate more funds to fight COVID-19.

Kejriwal backs Mamata, says move an ‘attempt to destabilize’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday, backed the Mamata Banerjee government on its stand against the central government’s decision to summon three serving IPS officers from West Bengal on central deputation. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said that the move was an ‘assault on federalism’.

“I condemn the Centre’s blatant interference in the Bengal administration. Encroaching on the rights of states by attempting to transfer police officers to Centre just before elections, is an assault on federalism and an attempt to destabilize,” Kejriwal said in a tweet, in response to a series of tweets by Banerjee.

The order on the transfer of the IPS officers on Central deputation came after BJP chief JP Nadda’s convoy was attacked in West Bengal during a recent visit. The Centre wants them shifted on account of alleged dereliction of duty.

On Thursday, the MHA asked the three IPS officers to report for Central deputation. Using the powers under IPS Cadre Rule 6(1), the Ministry of Home Affairs has made a central deputation of the three officers, sources said.

The three officers are Inspector General (South Bengal) Rajeev Mishra, DIG (Presidency Range) Praveen Kumar Tripathi, and Diamond Harbour SP Bholanath Pandey. They were in-charge of BJP chief JP Nadda’s security when his convoy was attacked on 10 December.

Oxford says vaccine has good immune response with two-dose

Oxford’s COVID-19 vaccine will be more effective on patients when given as two full doses rather than one full dose and one half booster dose. Oxford University reported on Thursday.

The university has published interim late stage trial results regarding the Oxford vaccine registered by AstraZeneca for license. It states that the vaccine is more effective on patients when given two full doses.

As reported earlier, according to the results of the final phase of the Oxford Vaccine trial, only three out of about 24,000 people saw the side effects of the vaccine. According to the results published in the medical journal Lancet, neither of the people who were given the vaccine died, nor was anyone admitted to the hospital.

Oxford University has said in a new statement that two full doses of its Covid-19 vaccine are giving better immune response.

About a month ago, AstraZeneca and Oxford admitted to manufacturing errors in the vaccine.

Only two full doses are necessary –
In a statement released on Thursday, Oxford gave fresh information on its vaccine. Said- We gave our candidates two full doses of vaccine during the trial. This led to good results. Earlier we had given a full and a half dose. In comparison, two full doses proved to be very effective.

Oxford released the trial results of Phase 1 to Phase 3 for the second time in a month. However, the reference to the first one and half dose was not given in it. The university says that the trials to be given one and a half doses were not pre-decided. Now Oxford’s emphasis is only on giving two full doses of its vaccine. He says that using one and a half and two doses was part of his strategy. Earlier questions have been raised on this, because the difference in results is also natural due to difference in dosage.

Know what PM Modi said in MP over ongoing farmer protest

In the midst of the ongoing farmers’ movement in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Kisan Mahasammelan in Madhya Pradesh today. PM Narendra Modi addressed farmers through video conferencing at the ‘Kisan Kalyan’ program in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh. During this time, PM Modi said that today he transferred 16 hundred crores to the bank accounts of 35 lakh farmers of Madhya Pradesh. During his address, PM Modi gave clarification to the farmers regarding the Agricultural Law and MSP.

PM Modi clarifies farmers about MSP-

PM Modi said that if we had to remove the MSP, then why would the Swaminathan Committee report be implemented? Secondly, our government is so serious about MSP that every time, it announces MSP before sowing. This also makes it easier for the farmer, he also comes to know first that this crop is going to get so much MSP.

PM Modi said that as much as he promised, he never waived the loan, his relatives and relatives of the Congress used to get the benefit. They only waived the debt of big farmers and thought that their work was done. PM Modi said that once in 10 years, Congress talked about loan waiver of Rs 50 thousand crore, but 75 thousand crore is being given every year under our government Kisan Samman Yojana. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that if old governments were concerned, 100 irrigation projects would not hang in the country. Our government is completing these schemes in mission mode by spending crores of rupees. The government is engaged in reducing the cost of farmers, solar pumps are being given cheaply. PM Modi said that there were problems of urea in the UPA government, but today those troubles are over. In these times, subsidies used to go up in the name of the farmer, but someone else used to get the benefit. Our government put an end to corruption and gave money directly to the farmers account.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh will put Rs 1600 crore in the account of 35 lakh farmers of the state today. This was announced by CM Shivraj during the cabinet meeting held on 15 December. This is the money for the loss of crops like soybean, which occurred this year. This amount is one third of the total payment. During the Kisan Mahamelan, Kisan Credit Card will be distributed to about 2000 cattle rearers and fish farmers.

During the Kisan Mahamelan, land-building and inauguration of construction works of about 75 crore rupees, such as godowns, Kisan Suvidha Kendra, will also be done.
