FDA says Pfizer vaccine vials hold extra doses, expanding supply

The news comes after hundreds of extra doses of the vaccine, which was already in short supply, were apparently thrown away over the past few days, according to Politico.

Manufacturers typically overfill vaccine vials to safeguard against spills and other waste, said Erin Fox, a pharmacy expert at University of Utah who monitors drug shortages. “It’s pretty unusual to have a full extra dose or more though – but it does seem to be there!” she said in an email.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that Bangladesh continues to be one of the significant pillars of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

In a video conference with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, Modi said that his government concentrated on keeping strong relations with Dhaka ever since it came into power.

On the occasion, Hasina thanked Modi for accepting her invitation to visit Bangladesh in person in March 2021 to join events marking the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence and 50 years of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations, said an official statement.

The two sides exchanged views on the situation of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in their respective countries.

Reiterating highest priority to the neighbouring country, Modi assured that COVID-19 vaccines would be made available to Bangladesh when produced in India. India also offered collaboration in therapeutics and partnership in vaccine production.

To strengthen and deepen our relations with Bangladesh has been a priority for me since the first day. It is true that because of the pandemic, this year has been challenging but in these challenging times, the relations between the two countries, have seen immense cooperation,” PM Modi said.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has officially recognized Yogasana as a competitive sport. As YOGA is India’s gift to the world, YOGASANA is gift to Sports World.”

Minister of Ayush (Ayurveda Yoga and Naturopathy Unani Sidda Homoeopathy), Shripad Yesso, also took to his Twitter account to share the information and said that the vision behind this move is to encourage people to practice Yoga.

“The vision behind making Yoga a competitive sport is to encourage its practice & help to improve the physical & mental well-being of people of all ages & fitness levels. Thank you @KirenRijiju ji and Sports ministry for making it possible,” he wrote.

Odisha to provide free covid-19 vaccine to all healthcare, frontline workers

As the nation inches close towards finding a cure against novel coronavirus, many states are coming forward to ensure safety of their residents.

In the latest, Odisha government has announced that all the healthcare and frontline workers of the state will be vaccinated for free of cost in the first phase of vaccination drive.


“In the first phase, doctors, health workers who are our Corona warriors and elderly persons will be administered Covid-19 vaccine free of cost. In the second phase, we have requested the Centre to vaccinate municipality, electricity, drinking water and other public health workers in the state,” said Health Minister Nabakishore Das on Thursday.


He further said that the vaccination drive is likely to commence in January next year.

“The central government is planning to vaccinate nearly 30 crore people during the first phase of vaccination. We are working as per the central government guidelines,” the Minister said while adding the government is ready to distribute and administer the vaccine to its warriors on a priority basis.

The development comes two days after Bihar vowed to provide free covid-19 vaccine to all its citizens.

According to data complied by state’s health authorities, 3.2 lakh people will be vaccinated in the first phase in Odisha after the launch of Covid-19 vaccine in the country. For vaccination, 29,276 centres have been identified in the state.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Centre released covid-19 vaccine guidelines to be followed during covid-19 vaccination drive.

In a latest report, it was revealed that Centre is also training over 3,000 health care workers for vaccination drive in Delhi.

US puts India in list of currency manipulator list

The report noted that Vietnam and Switzerland have identified potentially inappropriate currency debris or excessive external imbalances that have impacted the US growth or have hurt American workers and companies.

US Finance Minister Steven T Mnuchin said that the Finance Ministry has taken a strong step today to protect the economic growth and opportunities of American workers and businesses. The report of the US Ministry of Finance says that these 10 countries need special monitoring and Taiwan, Thailand and India are being added to this list.

It has been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security . This means that the government will create a list of some reliable source or product for all telecom providers in the country. Once the list is ready, the telecom service providers will be able to buy products from those firms. Also, the terms of license for telecom companies will be changed. However, the government has avoided mentioning the name of any country which will be affected by this decision.

Under the new policy, the National Cyber ​​Security Coordinator will list reliable devices for equipment. The National Security Committee on Telecom Equipment and will identify countries. The new policy will come into force within 180 days. The Department of Telecommunication will change the licensing rules.

India is among the top three countries with the highest number of cyber attacks. According to CERT-in, there were 400,000 cyber incidents in India in 2019. According to the IT ministry, till August this year, there were about seven lakh cyber attacks on Indian citizens and companies. Last year, India lost Rs 1.24 lakh crore due to cyber crimes.
