Donald Trump stages dramatic return to White House, poses for pictures without mask

Donald Trump’s dramatic covid-19 timeline got even substantial when the US President departed from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday.

While returning, Trump told his followers that the virus dangerously deprived him of oxygen and hospitalized for 72 hours. However, the US President also insisted that there’s nothing to fear.

President Donald walks out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to return to the White House after receiving covid-19 care.

When he departed from the Military hospital where he was being treated for the covid-19 infection, Donald Trump was seen wearing a surgical mask. He gave a thumbs-up and waved at the supporters waiting outside the hospital. Thereafter, he was airlifted to White House.

Then he walked up the staircase of the White House South Portico and peeled off his mask while he posed for the pictures.

Donald Trump removing his mask to pose for photos.

Trump posted a propaganda video after his dramatically staged White House entrance.

“We’re going back. We’re going back to work. We’re gonna be out front. As your leader I had to do that. I knew there’s danger to it but I had to do it,” he says in the video. “I stood out front. I led. Nobody that’s a leader would not do what I did. I know there’s a risk there’s a danger. That’s OK. And now I’m better, and maybe I’m immune? I don’t know. But don’t let it dominate your lives. Get out there, be careful.”

Previously, Trump’s doctors have said that he was given supplemental oxygen at the White House before he was admitted to the hospital.

Even as Trump’s aides advised him to stay at the hospital for some more time, the president insisted on returning. He made the announcement of his return on Monday afternoon on Twitter and wrote, “I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 PM. Feeling really good!”

Donald Trump’s return while disease still rampant in his body has raised many questions about how management was was going to protect other officials from the infection.

IPL 2020: Kohli unhappy with the feilding standard of RCB

Delhi Capitals clinches their fourth win of this year’s IPL by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs. With this victory, Delhi moved on top of the points table. Delhi Capitals batted first and set a mammoth target of 196 runs in front of RCB. Marcus Stoinis was the leading run-scorer from the Delhi side with his 26 balls 53 runs.

RCB were horror in the field they dropped number of catches and gave easy boundaries.

“Those important chances in between we need to grab when the opportunity comes our way, it is not like we are dropping half chances; we are dropping sitters and those things hurt you. The execution with the ball towards the end could have been better and with the bat as well. Not a complete performance in any regard today,” said Kohli.

While chasing the target RCB lost their openers early. Captain Virat Kohli scored 43 runs but failed to take his team to the winning line.

Kohli thought his team got back in the game in the middle overs.

“I think they got off to a great start in the first six then we pulled it back in the next eight overs and the last phase again got away from us,” he said.

Kagiso Rabada from Delhi Capitals was brilliant with the ball he took 4 wickets by giving just 24 runs, now he also holds the purple cap. Axar Patel was adjudged as the player of the match with his figure of 2 wickets for 18 runs.

RCB could see the likes of Chis Morris in the next game as the captain stated he is fit enough to play now, his addition will boost up the entire RCB campaign.

“Chris was really close to playing today as well but couldn’t make it. We have four days to the next game. Once he comes back into the squad it is a different balance altogether.”

Medicine Nobel Prize 2020

Key Highlights

The 2020 Nobel Prize in Medicine is awarded to three scientists who have made a decisive contribution to the fight against blood-borne hepatitis

Blood-borne hepatitis is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, causing more than a million deaths per year worldwide

The discovery provided the final evidence showing that hepatitis C virus alone could cause hepatitis

Americans Harvey Alter and Charles Rice together with Briton Michael Houghton won the Nobel Medicine Prize on Monday for the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus, the Nobel jury said.

The head of the Nobel Committee, Thomas Perlmann, announced the winners in Stockholm.

The World Health Organization estimates there are over 70 million cases of hepatitis worldwide and 400,000 deaths each year. The disease is chronic and a major cause of liver inflammation and cancer.

The prize in Medicine will be followed by the announcement of the Physics prize on Tuesday and Chemistry on Wednesday, AFP reported.

The announcements for the Literature and Peace prizes will happen on Thursday and Friday, while the Economics prize will be announced on 12 October, wrapping things up.

The Nobel award comes with a gold medal and prize money of 10 million Swedish kronor (over $1,118,000).

Who are these winners

Harvey James Alter

Born in 1935, Harvey J Alter is an American medical researcher who has gained worldwide recognition for his work related to discovering the Hepatitis C virus.

According to the Nobel Committee, the 85-year-old carried out his prize-winning studies at the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, where he remains active to date.

Charles Rice

Charle Rice was born in 1952 in Sacramento, California. He worked on hepatitis at the Washington University in St. Louis.

He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and was also the president of the American Society for Virology from 2002 to 2003.

Previous winners

2019 – Sir Peter Ratcliffe, William Kaelin and Gregg Semenza for discovered how cells sense and adapt to oxygen levels

2018 – James P Allison and Tasuku Honjo for discovering how to fight cancer using the body’s immune system

2017- Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael Young for unravelling how bodies keep a circadian rhythm or body clock

2016 – Yoshinori Ohsumi for discovering how cells remain healthy by recycling waste

2015 – William C Campbell, Satoshi Ōmura and Youyou Tu for anti-parasite drug discoveries

2014 – John O’Keefe, May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser for discovering the brain’s navigating system

Why the discovery of Hepatitis C virus is significant

While the discovery of hepatitis viruses, including hepatitis A and B had been critical steps forward, the majority of blood-borne hepatitis cases remained unexplained.

The identification of the hepatitis C virus was significant as it revealed the cause of the remaining cases of chronic hepatitis.

The discovery of the HCV also led to the development of diagnostic tests such as blood tests and new effective medicines, saving millions of lives.

According to the Nobel Committee, the methodical studies of transfusion-associated hepatitis by Harvey J Alter, at the US National Institutes of Health, demonstrated that an unknown virus was a common cause of chronic hepatitis.

Michael Houghton used an untested strategy to isolate the genome of the new virus that was named the hepatitis C virus.

Charles M Rice, a researcher at Washington University in St Louis, provided the final evidence showing that the hepatitis C virus alone could cause hepatitis.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer demands CBI to form new forensic team

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer Vikas Singh has said that he would request the CBI director to form a new forensic team.

“Highly perturbed with AIIMS report. Going to request CBI Director to constitute a fresh Forensic team. How could AIIMS team give a conclusive report in the absence of the body, that too on such shoddy post mortem done by Cooper hospital wherein time of death also not mentioned,” the lawyer said in a tweet.

His statement came a day after AIIMS’ panel created to re-evaluate the deceased actor’s post mortem reports said that he was not murdered and it was a case of suicide.

. “There were no injuries over the body other than hanging. There were no marks of struggle/scuffle in the body and clothes of the deceased,” Dr Gupta told ANI.

After the murder angle ruled out, Shiv Sena, in its mouthpiece Saamana, on Monday, sought an apology from the politicians who attacked the party over Sushant’s death.

“Truth can never be hidden. This truth has finally come out in the Sushant Singh case… those who maligned Maharashtra have been disrobed… During this time, the Mumbai Police was defamed, they (opposition and some media houses) raised questions on the investigation. The politicians and media channels who bark like dogs should apologise to Maharashtra,” said Shiv Sena in its mouthpiece.

“Nitish Kumar and other leaders there (Bihar) raised the issue because there was no other topic for campaigning in the Bihar elections. For this, Gupteshwar, the Director-General of Police in the state, was made to stage a performance in his uniform, and later he joined Nitish Kumar’s party, forgoing the same uniform,” added the Shiv Sena.

The Shiv Sena also questioned Kangana Ranaut over her silence on the recent case of Hathras where a 19-year-old girl was gangraped.

“The actress, who used Sushant’s death, termed Mumbai ‘Pakistan’ and ‘Babar’, in which hole is she hiding now? A young woman was raped and killed in Hathras. The police there insulted the woman’s dead body and burnt the corpse in the night. On this, the actress did not even shed two tears, not even fake ones. Those who raped that girl, are they brothers and sisters of that actress? Are the policemen, who burnt the girl, domestic servants of the actress,” it added.

Mumbai Police commissioner also condemned people for not trusting their investigation and having an alternate motive behind the case.

“All those who criticised our investigation without any information, going to different channels & making comments, I challenge them to reveal what they know as probe was entirely confidential. It was all about vested interests & a motivated campaign, said Mumbai Police Commissioner.

Netizen accuses Swara’s Rasbhari of promoting violence against women, actress replies

Swara Bhasker is known for giving it back to the trolls and that explains why her name keeps trending on twitter time and again. Recently, Swara was once again at the centre of spotlight as she responded to a Twitter user who accused her recent series, Rasbhari, of misconducting audience, specially the younger generation.

The accusation has come at a time when discourse around women safety and crime against have intensified after the rape incidents in Hathras and Balrampaur.

The netizen accused Swara’s series of promoting crimes against women for presenting sexual contne. “The whole nation is ashamed. This is Swara Bhasker. Shows like Rasbhari serve sex, then preach about violence against women increasing,” he wrote.

Swara, responding to the tweet, wrote, “This is a wrong and deplorable way of thinking. Sex between consenting adults is the most natural thing. That is how you were born. Rape is an abuse of power, and is forced, non-consensual sex. Understand the difference.”

“Rapes are increasing not because of my roles, but by thinking such as yours. Apply your brain sometimes, Mr Bansal,”she said in another tweet.

Rasbhari was released in July this year and garnered a lot of limelight for its sensual portrayal of a teacher played by Swara Bhaker.

Set in Meerut, Rasbhari revolves around a boy Nand (Ayushmaan Saxena) who falls for his teacher (Swara). Things get entangled when teacher’s supposed ‘sex-obsessed’ alter-ego comes under public scanner.

Earlier, Central Board of Film Certification chairman Prasoon Joshi complained about a scene in the show, which he felt was sexualising children. “Saddened by Webseries #Rasbhari’s irresponsible content portraying a little girl child dancing provocatively in front of men drinking. Creators & the audience need to seriously rethink Freedom of expression or freedom of exploitation? Let’s spare children in the desperate need for entertainment,” he wrote in a tweet.

Swara wrote back in reply, “With respect sir, perhaps you have misunderstood the scene. It’s absolutely opposite to how you have described it. The child is dancing by her own choice, the father gets awkward and embarrassed on seeing it. The girl is simply dancing. She doesn’t know that society will sexualise her too. That’s all there is to this scene.”

Paytm launches mini app store without any additional installs

HIGHLIGHTS

Paytm has announced the launch of its Android Mini App Store to support Indian startups and developers.

Paytm is not going to charge the developers for listing and distribution of mini-apps within its app.

Google has extended the timeline for developers to comply with its payment method to March 31, 2022.

Digital payments firm Paytm has launched a mini-app store to support Indian developers, in a direct challenge to Google’s dominance in the space.

According to Paytm’s press release, the Mini App store has been designed to help small developers and businesses in India to set up low-cost and easy-to-build apps using HTML and Javascript. These apps open within a window inside the Paytm app itself, and the listings will also be free, Paytm said.

The development comes just weeks after Paytm’s app was blocked from Google Play Store for a few hours for violating the latter’s policy on sports betting activities.

Paytm is providing listing and distribution of these mini-apps within its app without any charges and for payments, developers will be able to give a choice of Paytm Wallet, Paytm Payments Bank, UPI, net-banking and Cards to their users, Paytm said in a statement on Monday.

However, there is a 2 per cent charge (plus GST) levied by the company when payment is made using a credit card, debit card and net banking.

To access the Mini App Store, open your Paytm app, On the home page, click on Show More > Mini App Store from the pop-up menu.

The portal allows direct access to users to explore, use, and make payments through the apps, without any additional downloads or installs.

This may turn out to be a big boon for local businesses as they don’t want to spend big on apps and clearly don’t want to give Google a 30 per cent cut on their in-app purchases.

At the time of the launch, there are 300 mini-apps on the Paytm mini app store already. The list of these apps includes big names like Domino’s, NetMeds, Decathlon, Ola, Rapido, etc.

Other apps like Zomato and Swiggy were also not happy with Google’s new guidelines as they paused their sports-based cashback which was popular especially during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Paytm founder & CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma said, “I am proud that we are today launching something that creates an opportunity for every Indian app developer.

Google, on the other hand, noted that it is a setting a timeline of 31st March 2022 for all apps that currently use an alternative payment system.

Google also put forth some points to clear the confusion among users with regards to Payments and billing methods through Google. “Google Play billing is a billing system that supports many ways for consumers to pay — today Play’s billing supports more than 290 forms of payment globally.

Over the last several years we have added more local forms of payment in India including credit and debit cards, net banking, carrier billing, gift cards, and all supported UPI apps. And we will continue to engage with developers and consumers on adding additional forms of payment,” Google noted.

Google’s policy requires developers who distribute their apps on Play to use Google Play’s billing system if they offer in-app purchases of digital goods.

It also demands a 30 per cent cut for the listing of the apps on Play. Google noted that the payment method is not new and that more than 97 per cent of developers with apps on Google Play already comply with the policy.

Google further added that it is adding listening sessions, policy workshops and extension in the time given to developers to get used to the Google Play billing system.
