Delhi News: Enjoy Shopping Now at DTC Depots! Bus Stations to Turn Commercial Hubs, Will Generate ₹2600 Crore

DTC is turning its bus stations in Delhi as commercial hubs in next two years. This decision is taken to improve the financial health of DTC as it is incurring losses continuously.

DTC is planning to improve its financial health by enabling its depots as Commercial Hubs. The DTC will generate revenue through parking facility, advertising, mobile towers, office space rentals etc.

Why DTC is Converting its Bus Depots as Commercial Hubs?

•    As per CAG reports, Delhi's Vidhan Sabha disclosed that  losses of DTC increased significantly, with accumulated losses rising from ₹ 25,299.87 crore in 2015-16 to ₹ 60,741.03 crore in 2021-22.
•    The report showed concern about DTC's financial health and operational efficiency, as the fleet size has also reduced in past years. 
•    The objective is to redevelop these depots, improve and increase facilities and infrastructure to create revenue
•    This decision comes as a rescue plan for the loss-making Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), and the Delhi government has speed up work for commercial plan.
•    The Delhi Transport Corporation is eying to generate ₹ 2600 crores in revenue after its depots become commercial hubs.
•    Approvals have been granted for the redevelopment of Banda Bahadur Marg and Sukhdev Vihar depots, as per ANI.
•    Generation of revenue from The Banda Bahadur Marg depot is expected around ₹1,858 crore and the Sukhdev Vihar depot is expected to provide revenue of ₹758 crore.

What Facilities Will is there At Commercial Hubs?

DTC will enhance its infrastructure at depots to provide many facilities. DTC depots will create revenue through 
•    Parking facilities, 
•    Advertising options, 
•    Mobile towers installations and 
•    Rentals of office spaces. 
This project will follow a self-sustaining model without any investment requirement from government. The project is likely to be completed in next 2 years.The government is discarding old buses and replacing them with new electric buses.
To improve the transport facility, the Delhi government launched mini electric buses DEVI on 2nd May in Delhi.  

DTC under the leadership of Delhi government is launching it bus depots as commercial hubs. It will improve the infrastructure and facilities for people. It will also increase the revenue of DTC.
