Uric Acid: How Does Your Body’s Otherwise Well-Oiled Machinery Start Disfiguring? Causes, Tips And Precautions To Prevent High Uric Acid

Uric Acid

Uric Acid: Imagine your body as a silent factory, churning out uric acid (a harmless byproduct of purine breakdown) until the machinery jams one day. Crystals start to form like jagged shards in your joints that spark the fiery agony of gout or the stealthy torment of kidney stones.

Hyperuricemia or high uric acid is not just another lab number; it is a strong wake-up call that affects millions. It often lurks undetected until it strikes big time.

Health expert Dr. Priyanka Sehrawat, Neurologist and General Physician, MD Medicine and DM Neurology (AIIMS Delhi) and MBBS (Lady Harding Medical College, Delhi) shares her opinion on how to manage high uric acid.

Root Causes Exposed

Uric acid arises from purine-rich foods (meats, seafood) and natural cell turnover, but kidneys falter in excretion due to genetics (10-20% heritability), obesity (extra fat impairs filtration), insulin resistance, hypertension or diuretics like thiazides.

Beer and fructose-laden sodas supercharge production by overwhelming liver enzymes, while crash diets trigger massive cell death, flooding the bloodstream. Men face higher risks pre-50; women post-menopause as estrogen drops.

Warning Symptoms

Acute gout erupts as throbbing big toe pain – red, swollen, feverish – peaking at night, easing in 7-10 days. Chronic cases birth tophi nodules on elbows/ears. Some kidney red flags are lower back ache, dark urine, nausea. Fatigue or itchiness signal buildup. Uric acid levels >7 mg/dL in men, >6 in women demand action.

Foods To Shun

High-purine villains such as organ meats (liver, kidneys), sardines, anchovies, mussels, game, bacon and gravy should be avoided. Beef/pork, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms and asparagus should be avoided. Sugary drinks, alcohol (beer worst) and yeast spreads must also be avoided.

Foods To Eat

Low-purine allies include cherries (halves flares 35%), berries, citrus (vitamin C boosts clearance), low-fat dairy and coffee (daily cup lowers risk 40%). Ideally, you should embrace tofu, lentils (sparingly), oats, rice, potatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers. For hydration, you should consume at least 3-4 liters of water daily.

Engage yourself into 30 minutes of walk or yoga. Seek medical advice if you can use Allopurinol/Probenecid or Colchicine/NSAIDs for flares. Ideally, you should consume small meals to prevent uric acid spikes and prevent smoking.

The party stated that previous governments allegedly patronised gangsters, but the current administration under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will not allow Punjab to slide further into lawlessness.

Bhagwant Mann Government Intensifies ‘Gangsters Te Vaar’ Drive

According to AAP Punjab, the ongoing campaign is a decisive battle aimed at eliminating gangster networks and restoring peace and security across the state. The government has appealed to citizens to actively support the mission by sharing information related to gangsters and criminal activities.

Anti-Gangster Helpline Launched

To encourage public participation, the Punjab government has operationalised a dedicated anti-gangster helpline number 93946-93946. Citizens can provide inputs related to gangsters, their associates, or illegal activities through this helpline. Authorities have assured that the identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.

Rewards for Informers

The government has also announced that individuals who provide credible and actionable information will be rewarded with appropriate cash incentives. This step is aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering and ensuring swift action against criminal elements.

Zero Tolerance Against Gangsterism

The Mann government has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards gangsterism, stating that the ‘Gangsters Te Vaar’ campaign is not a symbolic initiative but a sustained operation to dismantle criminal networks completely. With coordinated police action and public cooperation, the government aims to make Punjab a safer and gangster-free state.

The Punjab government has sent a strong message that there will be zero tolerance for anyone taking the law into their own hands. Officials have reiterated that the ‘Gangsters Te Vaar’ campaign will continue until gangsterism is fully eradicated, regardless of political pressure or criminal influence.

8th Pay Commission Delay Likely: Central Government Salary Hike May Be Deferred Beyond 2026

8th pay commission

The implementation of the 8th Pay Commission is likely to face a significant delay, with Central government employees unlikely to see any salary revision by January 2026. Recent assessments indicate that the process is running behind schedule, raising concerns among employees who were expecting a timely pay hike.

As per current indications, the final recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission may take another 15 to 18 months to be prepared and submitted. This effectively rules out any immediate revision of salaries or allowances in early 2026. The delay suggests that the financial impact of the new pay structure will not be felt in the near term.

8th Pay Commission: Possible Retrospective Implementation

Despite the delay, it is expected that once approved, the 8th Pay Commission recommendations could be implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2026. If this happens, the government may have to clear arrears for more than 15 months in one go, creating a substantial financial burden.

Experts estimate that such retrospective implementation could lead to a 40–50 percent spike in salary expenditure in the year of rollout, likely around FY2028. This sharp increase may put pressure on government finances and influence fiscal planning.

Impact on Government Employees

The absence of a salary hike in 2026 may disappoint lakhs of Central government employees and pensioners who were anticipating a revision in pay scales and allowances. With rising inflation and cost of living, the delay could further impact household budgets of salaried government staff.

At the same time, employees remain hopeful that arrears, if paid later, may provide a financial cushion when the commission is finally implemented.

Government’s Fiscal Balancing Act

The delay in implementing the 8th Pay Commission is also being seen as part of the government’s broader fiscal strategy. Managing expenditure, controlling the fiscal deficit, and prioritising capital spending could be key reasons behind the cautious approach toward salary revisions.

While no official timeline has been announced yet, clarity on the constitution and progress of the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be closely watched in the coming months.

Bhagwant Mann Government Tightens Noose on Crime as Punjab Police Busts Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module in Amritsar

CM Mann

Bhagwant Mann: in a significant breakthrough against organised crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module linked to Pakistan-based handlers. The operation resulted in the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of six sophisticated pistols, including two Glock pistols and four .30 bore pistols, along with two live cartridges.

Punjab Police Busts Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module in Amritsar

According to Punjab Police, the accused were actively involved in trafficking illegal weapons and supplying them to gangsters in Punjab on the directions of foreign-based handlers. The recovery highlights the continued attempts by cross-border networks to destabilise peace and security in the state.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act at Police Station Islamabad, Amritsar, and further investigation is currently underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the network. Police officials are also working to identify other associates and financiers connected to the module.

Crackdown Under Bhagwant Mann Government

The action comes amid the Punjab government’s intensified campaign against gangsterism and organised crime under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The state has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards criminal networks, especially those with cross-border connections threatening internal security.

Senior police officials reiterated that Punjab Police remains fully committed to dismantling organised crime syndicates and ensuring peace and safety across the state. Recent operations reflect coordinated intelligence-based policing aimed at breaking the supply chains of illegal arms and curbing gangster activities.

The successful bust is being seen as another major step towards the government’s goal of making Punjab free from gangsterism and illegal weapons.

Bloating Causes: Why Do Gastrointestinal Disorders Keep Returning Back? Health Expert Shares Opinion

Bloating Causes

Bloating Causes: Ever felt like your stomach is staging a full-blown rebellion, turning a simple, home-made meal into a ballooning nightmare? You aren’t alone!

Recurrent bloating is often your gut’s way of communicating to you that what, how and how much you are eating is not matching with your digestive capacity.

Common Bloating Causes

A health expert breaks down the three most common yet highly underrated culprits:

  • Oversized meals that your gut cannot handle
  • Wrong food combinations that keep fermenting inside
  • A weakened digestive fire (jatharagni) that fails to process food properly

1. Meal Size Vs Your Gut Capacity

Think of your stomach as having a functional capacity (limitation) for comfortable digestion. If you keep on consistently eating beyond this point, it would stretch the stomach and slow emptying. This would result in gas build-up, pressure and reflux-like heaviness. Big, infrequent meals could be classic triggers because a loaded gut has to work harder than normal and any motility issue such as irritable bowel syndrome, slow movement or constipation only amplifies the bloating.

To avoid, you should have smaller and more frequent meals (4-6 meals a day) instead of 2-3 huge ones. Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, no distractions and avoid talking while eating to cut down on swallowed air, another cause of gas and pressure.

2. Wrong Food Combinations And Triggers

Certain foods or food combinations ferment more, pulling water into the intestine to generate extra gas, especially in sensitive people or those with irritable bowel syndrome.

Common culprits include lentils, carbonated drinks, beans and high-FODAMP [fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols] fruits such as apples and some stone fruits, high-salt or ultra-processed foods and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and kale.

Certain foods and combinations ferment more, pull water into the intestine, and generate extra gas, especially in sensitive people or those with IBS. Common culprits include beans, lentils, carbonated drinks, high‑FODMAP fruits (like apples and some stone fruits), cruciferous vegetables, and high‑salt or ultra‑processed foods.

To avoid, choose seasonal vegetables and whole grain and make it a point to increase fiber slowly and complementing it with adequate water so it passes smoothly instead of sitting and fermenting.

3. Poor Digestive Fire (Low Jatharagni)

In Ayurveda, weak jatharagni means the digestive “fire” is low, so food is not broken down completely and forms ama (toxins), which shows up as heaviness, gas and a coated, sluggish feeling.

To avoid, you need to maintain regular meal times. Also, avoid lying down immediately after eating so that natural motility is assisted and stagnation gets prevented. Indulge in slow walking, light stretching or yoga poses that massage the abdomen as they help move gas along and stimulate digestion.

Nitish Kumar: “Arre, Woh Mahila Kaha Gayi…” After Hijab Row, Bihar CM Embroiled In Yet Another Controversy? Check Details

Nitish Kumar

Nitish Kumar: A video of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has gone viral. In the video, Nitish can be seen calling an audience member during a Samriddhi Yatra event.

The Bihar CM could be seen making a pause to his speech mid-way while addressing the crowd. In his signature Bhojpuri-accented tone, Nitish said, “Arre woh mahila kaha gayi, aayiye na, idhar aayeye” (“Hey, where did that woman go? Come on, come here!”).

Nitish Kumar Incident During Samriddhi Yatra Event

The Bihar CM incident took place on January 16 during the Samriddhi Yatra, which is a state-wide outreach program, for reviewing the implementation of Bihar’s government schemes. The Yatra was flagged off from West Champaran (Bettiah).

Nitish then went on to make a gesture toward the audience listening to his speech. He appeared to spot someone and keeps waving his hand for “that woman” to turn up on the stage.

Nitish And Previous Controversies

A few weeks back, Nitish Kumar was seen pulling down a Muslim female doctor’s hijab during a government event.

In a viral video, Nitish was seen removing the hijab of the female doctor while giving her the appointment letter as a doctor of alternative medicine. In the video, Nitish could be seen asking the woman to remove the veil. Before the female doctor could react, the Bihar CM pulled her veil down to expose her face. A minister standing next to the Bihar CM tried to intervene but he was late and many present on the stage started laughing.

The 74-year-old Nitish has been the Chief Minister of Bihar for more than 20 years. A close ally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nitish won the Bihar legislative assembly election a few months back.

Many social media users commented that the Bihar CM has lost his mind and does not deserve to be in the CM chair.

One user wrote, “I wonder what was the age difference between SRK/DP in Om Shanti Om?” Another said, “The difference is RS didn’t dance uncomfortably near Sara Arjun and Sara didn’t wear revealing clothes.”

A third added, “People are okay with anything SRK does. Because he is King Khan, the man can do no harm, he is always charming blah blah blah.”

About Dhurandhar And The Age Gap

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar (2025) is a high-octane spy thriller about a RAW agent infiltrating Karachi’s underworld. The film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and R Madhavan. It was a box-office hit, crossing Rs 1200 crore worldwide.

The 20-year age gap between Ranveer Singh (40) and Sara Arjun (20) was a deliberate choice. Singh’s character (an undercover agent) uses his experience to “honey-trap” Arjun’s character (Yalina Jamali) to gather information from her father, a powerful Pakistani politician. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra said the script required a young actress to make the story believable.

Fans can also look forward to the sequel, Dhurandhar- The Revenge, releasing on March 19, 2026, which will further explore the characters and their complex dynamics.
