Punjab Witnessing Historic Transformation as Canal Water Reaching Tail Ends: CM

CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday asserted that Punjab is witnessing a historic and revolutionary transformation under the present state government as canal water has reached even the tail-end regions of the state for the first time, while uninterrupted daytime power supply is now being ensured for farmers across Punjab.

Addressing an unprecedented gathering during the ongoing ‘Shukrana Yatra’ at Mansa and Sardulgarh, the Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government is working with complete honesty, transparency and commitment to safeguard the interests of farmers, protect Punjab’s communal harmony and ensure exemplary punishment for those involved in sacrilege incidents. He said that for decades the people of Punjab had suffered due to the anti-people policies of previous governments, but now a new era of accountability, development and justice has begun in the state. Launching a blistering attack on opposition parties, Bhagwant Singh Mann said leaders of the Akali Dal and Congress had approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the stringent anti-sacrilege legislation because they wanted to save themselves and their political associates from the ambit of the law.

The Chief Minister said the Court not only dismissed their petitions but also imposed fines on the petitioners, thereby further strengthening the legal sanctity and constitutional validity of the legislation. He said Akali and Congress leaders approached the High Court because they were afraid of this law. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the know that the era of protecting sacrilege accused is over.

The Chief Minister said that this historic law has the approval of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Governor and the Court as well. Reiterating the firm commitment of his government to protect the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, he declared that no accused in sacrilege cases would now be able to escape punishment by pretending mental illness or taking refuge behind fabricated excuses. Bhagwant Singh Mann said the newly enacted Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026 clearly stipulates life imprisonment for those found guilty of sacrilege and also provides stringent punishment for the handlers, protectors and conspirators behind such heinous acts.

Earlier, the Chief Minister said that the sacrilege accused would conveniently claim mental imbalance and walk free. He said that era is over forever and Anyone found guilty of desecration will face life imprisonment adding that even those sheltering or protecting such culprits will not be spared and can face imprisonment along with penalties up to Rs 50 lakh. Describing sacrilege incidents as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to disturb peace, brotherhood and communal harmony in Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann said the law would serve as a historic deterrent and ensure that no one dares to repeat such crimes in future.

The Chief Minister said that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is revered not only by Sikhs but by humanity across the globe, and protecting its sanctity is the collective responsibility of society. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he had embarked upon the ‘Shukrana Yatra’ as a humble servant of Guru Sahib after paying obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib to express gratitude to the Almighty for blessing him with the opportunity to enact this historic legislation. He said that only by the immense blessings of Guru Sahib was the Punjab Government has been able to fulfill the long-pending demand of millions of devotees across the world.

The Chief Minister said that he was nobody to pass this law as Guru Sahib himself has taken this service from me. He said that Such service is entrusted only to those whom the Almighty chooses adding that people from across the world are expressing immense happiness and gratitude over the enactment of the stringent legislation. Bhagwant Singh Mann said ghat he receives numerous calls daily from Punjabis settled abroad thanking the Punjab Government for this historic initiative.

Coming down heavily on previous governments, Chief Minister said that successive Congress and Akali governments deliberately failed to enact such legislation because they never wanted the real perpetrators of sacrilege incidents to be punished. He accused the Akali leadership of exploiting religion and emotions of people for political gains while failing to protect the dignity of Guru Sahib’s teachings. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that they sought votes in the name of Baba Nanak but insulted Baba Nanak’s Bani adding that those who publicly admitted their mistakes before Akal Takht Sahib later denied them openly.

The Chief Minister said that those who can lie before the Takht can never remain loyal to anyone. He also said that some political forces are opposing the legislation only because their “political masters” are unhappy with the strict provisions of the law. Bhagwant Singh Mann termed it unfortunate that certain leaders are indulging in politics even on such a sensitive issue merely to protect vested interests.

The Chief Minister said that Some people know they may soon land behind bars for grave sins committed in the past adding that this is why they are desperately trying to oppose this law tooth and nail. Highlighting the pro-farmer initiatives of the Punjab Government, he said the state has achieved a historic breakthrough in irrigation reforms. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that when the AAP Government assumed office in 2022, only 21 percent canal water was being utilised for irrigation, but today that figure has risen to nearly 68 percent and is expected to touch 85 percent by the upcoming paddy season.

For the first time in Punjab’s history, the Chief Minister said that canal water has reached remote villages and tail-end regions that had remained deprived of irrigation facilities for decades. He said the Punjab Government has laid nearly 14,000 kilometres of pipelines and revived watercourses across the state to ensure water reaches every field. Bhagwant Singh Mann informed the gathering that nearly 21,000 cusecs of water have already been released through these pipelines and watercourses to cater to farmers’ irrigation requirements.

The Chief Minister described the volume of water released as equivalent to the supply of two Bhakra canals adding that this is not merely water flowing in canals but this is the lifeline of Punjab being revived. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab’s identity and future are intrinsically linked with water and we are duty-bound to protect it for future generations. He further said that recharge points created in canals and rivers have already helped improve groundwater levels by two to four metres in several areas, which would significantly reduce dependence on tube-wells and help save precious groundwater reserves.

In another major relief to farmers, Chief Minister
said the Punjab Government has ensured uninterrupted daytime power supply to farmers, thereby ending the decades-old practice of forcing farmers to irrigate fields during unsafe late-night hours. He said that earlier farmers had to spend sleepless nights in fields waiting for electricity supply but today our government is ensuring daytime power supply so that farmers can work with dignity and safety. Taking a dig at previous governments, Bhagwant Singh Mann held them responsible for promoting corruption, nepotism and loot while ignoring welfare of common people.

The Chief Minister said taxpayers’ money is now being spent honestly on development works, schools, hospitals, roads and welfare schemes rather than being siphoned off through commissions and corruption.
Highlighting achievements of the AAP Government, Bhagwant Singh Mann said more than 90 percent households in Punjab are receiving free electricity and over 65,000 youth have secured government jobs completely on merit and without paying bribes. He also said several toll plazas have been shut down across Punjab, saving nearly Rs 70 lakh daily for the people.

Simultaneously, the Chief Minister said that massive investments are being made in strengthening infrastructure, upgrading roads and modernising government institutions across the state. Announcing major welfare initiatives, Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Punjab Government has launched the ‘Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna’ under which every woman in Punjab will receive Rs 1,000 per month while women belonging to Scheduled Castes will receive Rs 1,500 per month directly in their bank accounts. He said nearly 97 percent women of the state are expected to benefit from the scheme and the Punjab Government has already earmarked Rs 9,300 crore for it in the Budget.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the ‘Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna’, under which health cards are being issued to all 65 lakh families in Punjab. He said every family is entitled to free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh and more than 30 lakh beneficiaries have already received health cards. He added that nearly 1.65 lakh people have already availed free treatment under the scheme.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann reiterated that the Punjab Government is committed to fulfilling every promise made to the people in 2022 with complete honesty and sincerity. He said Aam Aadmi Clinics are providing quality free healthcare to people, government schools are being transformed, hospitals upgraded and welfare initiatives are reaching every household in the state. Describing the overwhelming response to the ‘Shukrana Yatra’ as emotional and historic, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the massive gatherings reflect the happiness and satisfaction of people over the enactment of the anti-sacrilege law and the transparent governance being provided by the Punjab Government.

Thyroid Lump Found In Ultrasound Report? Doctor Reveals 85-95% Cases Are Harmless But THIS One Sign Decides Cancer Risk

Thyroid Lump Found In Ultrasound Report Doctor Reveals 85-95% Cases Are Harmless But THIS One Sign Decides Cancer Risk

A thyroid lump on an ultrasound report can instantly trigger fear. Many patients rush to doctors worried it might be cancer. But experts say panic is often unnecessary. Most thyroid lumps are not dangerous and are found accidentally during routine scans.

Diabetes & Hormones Specialist Dr Suchitra Yadav explains that thyroid nodules are extremely common in the general population. The real concern is not their presence, but how they look on ultrasound and whether they show suspicious changes.

What A Thyroid Lump Really Means

According to Dr Yadav, many patients arrive with reports in fear and ask if the lump means cancer. However, the data tells a different story. She explains that thyroid nodules are found in about:

  • 40–45% of women
  • Around 30% of men

But here is the important part that reduces fear. Only:

  • 5–15% of thyroid nodules are cancerous
  • 85–95% are completely harmless

This means most thyroid lumps do not lead to cancer at all. Doctors mainly assess three things on ultrasound:

  • Size of the lump
  • Shape and structure
  • Suspicious features like irregular edges or abnormal blood flow

Based on these findings, doctors decide whether further testing like FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) is needed or not.

Thyroid Lump Cancer Risk: What Actually Matters

The key point in thyroid lump evaluation is not just its presence but its behaviour on imaging. A lump may exist for years without causing any harm.

Doctors look for warning signs such as:

  • Rapid growth in size
  • Irregular or unclear borders
  • Suspicious internal patterns on ultrasound

If these signs are absent, the risk of cancer is usually very low. That is why not every patient is advised FNAC.

Medical research also supports this approach. According to data from the American Thyroid Association, most thyroid nodules are benign and only a small fraction require surgical intervention or biopsy.

When You Should Actually Worry

Even though most cases are harmless, doctors advise proper follow-up. A thyroid lump should be evaluated if:

  • It keeps increasing in size
  • There is difficulty in swallowing or breathing
  • Voice changes appear without reason
  • Ultrasound shows suspicious features

In such cases, an endocrinologist may recommend further testing for safety.

Dr Yadav strongly advises against self-diagnosis or panic. Instead, she suggests consulting a specialist who can interpret reports correctly and guide next steps.

A thyroid lump is very common and often harmless. The real decision point is not fear, but medical evaluation through ultrasound features and expert consultation. Most patients do not need invasive tests, and many can simply be monitored safely over time.

Sleep Deprivation: Can Poor Sleep Today Lead To Brain Function Decline Tomorrow? Doctor Warns Impact May Build Over Time

Sleep Deprivation Can Poor Sleep Today Lead To Brain Function Decline Tomorrow

Sleep Deprivation: Sleep plays a major role in how our brain works, but many people today are not getting enough of it. A growing number of health experts are now warning that poor sleep is not just about feeling tired the next day. It may slowly affect brain function over time and increase long-term health risks.

One such warning has come from neurologist Dr Rahul Chawla, who shared insights in an Instagram video. His message highlights how modern sleep habits are becoming a serious concern, especially among young adults and working professionals.

What Doctors Say About Sleep Deprivation

Dr Rahul Chawla explained that the ideal sleep duration is around 7 to 7.5 hours every night. However, he pointed out that many people in India are sleeping for less than 7 hours on average, which is not healthy.

He clearly stated that this is not something to feel proud about, as consistent lack of sleep can slowly damage both mental and physical health.

According to him, sleep deprivation can cause:

Poor attention and focus
Increased anxiety levels
Brain fog and reduced clarity
Higher long-term risk of neurological diseases

He also warned that conditions like dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease may have a higher risk in people suffering from long-term sleep deprivation.

Sleep Deprivation And Its Hidden Long-Term Risks

Experts believe that sleep deprivation does not affect the brain instantly, but its damage builds over time. When the brain does not get enough rest, it cannot properly repair or process information.

Dr Chawla also mentioned that insomnia itself may not always be a standalone issue. In many cases, it can be a symptom of deeper neurological or medical problems.

Long-term sleep deprivation has been linked in studies to:

Reduced memory performance
Slower decision-making ability
Emotional instability
Weakened immune response

A 2022 review published in The Lancet Neurology also suggested that chronic poor sleep is associated with increased cognitive decline risk in older adults.

How To Improve Sleep Quality Naturally

Doctors recommend simple lifestyle changes to prevent sleep deprivation and improve overall sleep quality:

Maintain a fixed sleep schedule
Aim for at least 7–8 hours of sleep daily
Avoid screens at least 30–60 minutes before bed
Sleep in a dark and quiet environment
Avoid caffeine late in the day

Dr Chawla also advised that if sleep problems continue despite these changes, people should consult a doctor.

When It Becomes Medical Concern

If someone regularly faces difficulty falling asleep, wakes up frequently at night, or cannot return to sleep after waking up, it may be more than just a lifestyle issue. In such cases, sleep deprivation could be linked to underlying health conditions that require medical evaluation and treatment. Early diagnosis can help prevent long-term complications and improve brain health.

Sleep is not optional. It is essential for brain function and overall well-being. Experts strongly emphasise that ignoring sleep deprivation today may lead to serious cognitive and neurological issues in the future. Taking sleep seriously is one of the simplest yet most powerful steps towards better health.

NAFLD: Is Your Daily Diet Destroying Your Liver Before 30? Nutrition Experts Sound the Alarm

NAFLD

NAFLD: For countless years, the concept of liver damage was widely associated with excessive alcohol consumption. However, nutrition experts and doctors are witnessing a worrying shift with an increasing number of young adults in their 20s and early 30s being diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), a silent condition closely linked to modern lifestyle habits.

Worrying Trends Of NAFLD

Worryingly, many young people with NAFLD appear outwardly healthy. They may not drink alcohol regularly, may not have severe obesity, and often experience no obvious symptoms in the early stages. Yet, excess fat hidden inside their body slowly begins accumulating in the liver, triggering inflammation, metabolic dysfunction and in severe cases, permanent liver damage.

Health experts believe that India’s rapidly changing food culture, rising stress levels, poor sleep patterns, sedentary lifestyles and dependence on ultra-processed foods are the primary reasons for today’s liver health crisis among younger generations.

What Is NAFLD and Why Is It Becoming So Common?

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, commonly known as NAFLD, occurs when excess fat accumulates in the liver in people who consume little or no alcohol. A healthy liver naturally contains small amounts of fat, but when fat begins accounting for more than 5–10 percent of the liver’s weight, it can interfere with normal liver function.

NAFLD is now considered one of the fastest-growing lifestyle diseases globally, and India is emerging as a major hotspot due to changing dietary patterns and increasing metabolic disorders.

Health Complications Because Of NAFLD

Experts warn that NAFLD often progresses silently. In some cases, the disease may gradually advance to a more dangerous condition called Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), where inflammation and liver cell damage occur alongside fat accumulation.

If left unmanaged for years, NAFLD can eventually lead to severe and debilitating health conditions such as liver fibrosis, Cirrhosis, liver failure, increased cardiovascular risk or Type 2 diabetes complications.

Bloating: This Everyday Eating Habit Could Be Putting Your Gut At Risk! Gastroenterologist Shares Chilling Observations

Bloating

Bloating: In today’s fast-paced world, eating has become more of a task than an experience. Breakfast is gulped down during commutes, lunch is squeezed between meetings and dinner often happens in front of a screen.

While most people focus on what they eat, gastroenterologists are increasingly warning that how we eat may be just as important for digestive health. One seemingly harmless habit of eating too quickly could be silently damaging your gut and triggering persistent bloating, acidity, gas and digestive discomfort.

The Risks Of Bloating-Side Effects Of Eating Quick

For many of us, bloating is a normal part of modern life. A tight stomach after a meal, excessive burping, feeling full even after consuming small portions and abdominal heaviness are often ignored until they become chronic.

Digestive experts suggest that rapid eating may overload the gastrointestinal system and interfere with the body’s natural digestive mechanisms.

How Long Should an Ideal Meal Take?

Health experts generally recommend spending at least 20 to 30 minutes on a proper meal. This allows the digestive system and brain to communicate effectively, supporting better digestion and satiety.

The ideal eating pace includes taking smaller bites, chewing each bite thoroughly, putting utensils down between bites occasionally, pausing briefly during meals and avoiding distractions such as phones or television.

Simple Tips To Prevent Bloating And Protect Your Gut

  • Use smaller spoons, take pauses between bites and avoid racing through meals.
  • Avoid scrolling through phones or working while eating as it often causes mindless overconsumption and faster eating.
  • Sip fluids steadily instead of gulping them.
  • Avoid talking continuously while chewing, limit carbonated beverages, skip straws when possible and reduce chewing gum habits
  • A short walk after eating may stimulate digestion and reduce feelings of heaviness.

When Should You See a Doctor?

Consult a healthcare professional if bloating is accompanied by unexplained weight loss, severe abdominal pain, blood in stools, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing food, chronic constipation, diarrhoea or sudden worsening of symptoms.

Hantavirus

Hantavirus: The World Health Organization (WHO) has send shivers to billions of people worldwide by remarking that Hantavirus is significantly more lethal on a case-by-case basis when compared to COVID-19 that claims millions of lives worldwide.

Hantavirus Cases And Severity

Recently, reports emerged of a hantavirus-related incident aboard a cruise ship. This triggered widespread panic and discussions about whether the world could be facing another infectious disease crisis after COVID-19 that caused the deaths of about 7,010,681 people worldwide while impacting the lives of 704,753,890 people across the world.

Experts are now claiming that medical Hantavirus is not the new COVID even though it is highly lethal on a case-by-case basis, especially if diagnosis and treatment are delayed.

AIIMS Doctor Weighs In

Dr Puneet Misra, Professor of Community Medicine at AIIMS Delhi, remarked that Hantavirus infections are not new to the scientific community. However, public awareness remains low, which can lead to panic, misinformation and delayed recognition of symptoms.

What Exactly Is Hantavirus?

Hantavirus disease is caused by a group of viruses that are primarily spread through rodents such as rats and mice. Humans become infected when they inhale virus particles present in rodent urine, droppings or saliva. The infection may also spread when contaminated dust particles become airborne, especially in poorly ventilated spaces.

Dr Puneet Misra explains that Hantavirus disease is a viral disease spread by a group of viruses and the recent episode, which has alarmed the public, happened on a cruise, and this infection is not new. Misra added that COVID was a new virus and we did not know anything about COVID while the mode of transmission was through the respiratory route. Misra added Hantavirus spreads through rodents, rats and mice.

Pinki Chaudhary-Turn Of Events

Social media users commented that langar organizers should never discriminate between anyone based on their religion as langar is a service to the God and everyone is equal before the God.

Social Media Comments

A user wrote, “A langar is meant to feed the hungry, not feed hatred. Snatching food from someone because of their religion is disgraceful and inhuman. If humanity disappears from charity, then what remains sacred anymore?” Another commented, “Pinki Chaudhary turned an act of seva into an act of discrimination. No religion teaches people to humiliate the hungry in public. This behavior insults the very spirit of langar itself.”

Another user commented, “Feeding the poor should unite people, not divide them. Denying food to someone because they are Muslim shows shocking intolerance.  Compassion without equality is not compassion at all.” A user wrote, “The saddest part is that this happened during a langar, a place symbolizing equality and service. Snatching a plate from a hungry man is not strength, it is cruelty.   Humanity should always come before hatred.”
