Gurugram News: The Rs. 2800 crore loan requested by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) from the World Bank is expected to be approved by July 2026. This would initiate the start of a dream project by The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and GMRL for a crucial connectivity upgrade. It would involve a revised metro and elevated corridor alignment running along Old Delhi Road up to Dundahera and then turning towards Shankar Chowk on NH-48.

Gurugram News-The Project At A Glance

The first phase would include the construction of a metro line to Sector 9 from Millennium City Centre Metro Station. The second phase of the project would include a corridor to DLF Cyber City from Sector 9. About 60 percent of the second phase would get funded via a World Bank loan.

A 1.25 km elevated stretch, possibly part of a double-decker flyover, will carry the metro line, easing surface congestion and improving traffic flow. Additionally, a broader plan includes a 5 km elevated road from Atul Kataria Chowk to the Dwarka Expressway, directly serving sectors 21, 22 and 23, along with Dundahera. The project would act as a multi-layered mobility upgrade integrating metro, flyovers and arterial connectivity.

Challenges Faced By Residents Of Sector 21 And Dundahera

Presently, residents face broken roads and potholes that stretch travel times from minutes to nearly an hour. Residents also face encroachments and unregulated e-rickshaws worsening bottlenecks and limited scope for widening due to dense urban development.

How the New Route Could Change Everything?

The Old Delhi Road–Shankar Chowk route would aim to shift a portion of traffic (and metro movement) onto elevated structures, surface roads will be freed up for local commuters. This could significantly reduce bottlenecks at key intersections. Moreover, it would create faster access to NH-48, which is critical for commuters heading toward Cyber City, Delhi or IGI Airport. For Dundahera residents near the Delhi border, this is particularly impactful.

Uttarakhand News: How Would It Boost Regional Connectivity?

In January this year, MP Anil Baluni met Ashwini Vaishnaw and requested the launch of a direct train service between Dehradun and Ramnagar so that the long-standing connectivity issues faced by travellers and residents could be handled.

The new rail link has been approved to strengthen travel between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions, offering a more convenient and cost-effective alternative to existing routes. The new train route would help in encouraging more nature lovers to visit Jim Corbett National Park and other popular destinations such as Garjiya Devi Temple, Sitabani Temple & Forest Reserve, Corbett Falls and Kosi River.

Improved Connectivity And Tourist Flow

Ramnagar serves as the primary gateway to Jim Corbett National Park. The town’s railway station is located very close to the park, making it the most convenient entry point for visitors. However, until now, connectivity between Dehradun and Ramnagar has not been seamless. Travellers often had to rely on indirect routes, including train changes or road transport, which increased travel time and complexity.

The newly announced direct train is expected to simplify this journey significantly. By reducing travel time and eliminating transfers, it would lower the barrier for tourists traveling from Dehradun and nearby regions. Easier access generally translates into higher tourist inflow, particularly among domestic travellers who prefer rail travel for its affordability and comfort.

For nature lovers, convenience plays a major role in destination choice. A direct rail link makes weekend trips and short wildlife getaways more feasible, especially for students, families and solo travellers.

Bhagwant Mann arrest key accused in Kabaddi promoter murder case from Tripura

In a major breakthrough against organized crime, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has arrested a key accused linked to the murder of a Kabaddi promoter.

According to the Director General of Police, the accused—identified as Aditya alias Makhan—was apprehended from Agartala, Tripura, in a joint operation with central agencies and Tripura Police.

Bhagwant Mann: Case background

The accused is one of the shooters involved in the sensational killing of Kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria, which took place on December 15, 2025, in Village Sohana, Sector-79, SAS Nagar (Mohali). The murder had raised concerns over the growing influence of organized crime networks in the region.

Links to foreign handlers

Preliminary investigations suggest that the crime was carried out under the directions of foreign-based handlers, indicating the involvement of an international criminal network. The accused, along with his associates, had allegedly executed the planned killing.

Earlier arrests and absconding accused

While other accomplices in the case were earlier arrested by the AGTF from Kolkata, Aditya had been absconding and evading arrest for several months before being tracked down in Tripura.

Zero-tolerance policy on crime

Reiterating its stance, the Punjab Police stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy against organized crime and remains committed to ensuring public safety. Officials also emphasized that accused individuals, whether hiding within India or abroad, will be pursued and brought to justice.

In a recent communication, the government stated that inclusive growth remains a key identity of a strong Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on ensuring equal participation of दिव्यांगजन in the state’s development journey.

Mohan Yadav: Focus on education and accessibility

The government has undertaken several initiatives to make education and communication more accessible. Around 168 smart classrooms have been developed in aided special schools, aimed at improving learning outcomes for students with disabilities.

Technology-driven support systems

For hearing-impaired individuals, a QR code-based live interpreter facility has been introduced to ease communication barriers. This step is expected to enhance accessibility in public interactions and services.

Support for visually impaired

For visually impaired persons, booklets in Braille (rail lipi) have been made available, ensuring better access to educational and informational resources.

Inclusive governance approach

The state government has emphasized that over the past two years, multiple steps have been taken to empower persons with disabilities, reflecting a governance model that prioritizes sensitivity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all sections of society.
