In a strict move aimed at curbing dangerous traffic violations, Gurugram Police have decided to register FIRs against wrong-side drivers instead of issuing spot fines. Officials said that such cases, registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), could now negatively impact police verification reports, which are crucial for government jobs, passport clearance, and security-related employment.

The decision, implemented from January 2, makes Gurugram the first district in Haryana to take FIR-based legal action against wrong-side driving, a traffic offence increasingly blamed for serious accidents on highways, expressways, and city roads.

FIRs Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

Police officials said offenders will be booked under Section 125 and Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

  • Section 125 deals with acts endangering human life or personal safety and carries a punishment of up to three months’ imprisonment, or a fine of ₹2,500, or both.
  • Section 281 relates to rash driving on public roads and provides for up to six months’ imprisonment, or a fine of ₹1,000, or both.

Once registered, these FIRs and any subsequent convictions will reflect in an individual’s character certificate, which is examined during police verification for recruitment, security clearance, and other official purposes.

Senior police officers clarified that candidates applying for government jobs, defence services, or sensitive private-sector roles may face difficulties if found guilty in such cases. It is expected to continue in theatres for another week or more, having already broken multiple records.

On Day 37, Dhurandhar saw a resurgence in ticket sales. Despite the strong momentum, it narrowly missed an important milestone. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film has consistently outperformed several big releases since it hit theatres in early December 2025.

About The Film

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar (2025) is a high-octane spy action thriller set in the early 2000s. It follows Indian RAW operative Hamza, who infiltrates the Lyari region in Karachi, Pakistan. Tasked with dismantling a deeply rooted ISI-terrorist network, Hamza navigates the criminal underworld with precision and courage.

The film features a star-studded cast. Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, while Akshaye Khanna is the ruthless antagonist Rehman Dakait. Sanjay Dutt appears as SP Chaudhary Aslam, R Madhavan plays intelligence strategist Ajay Sanyal, and Arjun Rampal portrays ISI officer Major Iqbal. Other key performers include Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi and Danish Pandor.
