In a post on X, Shashi Tharoor remarked that the Indian National Congress has always stood for the rights and reservations for women under a strong woman President in Sonia Gandhi. Tharoor went on to add that it was the INC that initiated the Women’s Reservation Bill and passed it in the Rajya Sabha during its tenure while also supporting it in the Lok Sabha when it was brought by the Government of India in 2023.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP also remarked that the Indian National Congress is completely in favour of women’s reservation in the country if it happens without linking it to delimitation.

Claims By Kiren Rijiju

Kiren Rijiju had claimed that Tharoor “in a way admitted” that the Congress Party is anti-women. Rijiju cited a private conversation between him and the Thiruvananthapuram Member of Parliament (MP) after the recent Parliament session that discussed the Women’s Reservation Bill 2026.

The bill failed to pass on April 17, 2026, in the Lok Sabha; it was aimed at increasing the count of Lok Sabha seats to 85 and delinking the quota from the post-2026 census.

Kiren Rijiju had claimed that the core issue behind the Women’s Reservation Bill 2026 was not whether women oppose or suppose us but the provision of 33 percent reservation for women in state and Lok Sabha assemblies.

Rijiju also remarked that the nation was shocked and surprised that national parties like Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and the Indian National Congress didn’t supported the Women’s Reservation Bill 2026. Rijiju added that the provision was already part of the 2023 Act that was approved in the Lok Sabha and it does not make any sense to oppose it now.

ATF Pricing Revisions: IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet have urged the Indian government to revise aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pricing and offer financial support. The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) has also urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to possibly extend the same mechanism of fuel pricing across both international and domestic operations uniformly.

It was contended by all that the airline industry of the country was under “extreme stress” and almost on the verge of closing operations.

ATF Pricing Revisions-Causes Behind Requests

In recent weeks, the Middle East crisis has significantly spiked up oil prices globally. Moreover, airspace restrictions have increased the operating costs of airlines, especially on long-haul destinations. Interestingly, ATF accounts for approximately 35-40 percent of the operational expenses of a carrier.

The Federation of Indian Airlines that represents IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet remarked that any irrational increase in ATF prices and/or ad hoc pricing (domestic versus international) would lead to substantial losses for airlines, resulting in the grounding of aircrafts and mass-scale flight cancellations.

The FIA further remarked that the Civil Aviation Ministry is requested to urgently intervene for meaningful and immediate financial support to help airlines amid the ongoing financial crisis.

Deferment Of ATF Excise Duty Requested

The airlines requested for temporary deferment of ATF excise duty that presently stands at 11 percent. They remarked that the duty exponentially increases manifold for the airlines while adding to the ATF price as a substantial impact on airlines due to factors like rupee depreciation and abnormal ATF price hikes.

In March this year, the Union Government raised the prices of ATF for international flights by Rs. 73 per litre and Rs. 15 per litre for domestic operations. The FIA has requested for a transparent pricing framework under the crack band mechanism (USD 12-22/BBL) that was implemented in October 2022. The federation remarked that there was a fair and reasonable margin for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

The scheme could help them lead a respectful life without getting dependent on anyone. Moreover, this scheme for underprivileged could also help the disabled generate employment for others once their small business starts growing to the fullest.

Uttar Pradesh News-About The Scheme

Under the scheme, a financial assistance of Rs. 10000 would be provided to eligible individuals to start a small business. This would include a loan of Rs. 7500 and a grant of Rs. 2500. Beneficiaries can utilize this financial assistance for starting their own businesses by opening a general store, cart or tea stall.

The scheme can be availed by residents of Uttar Pradesh who are aged 18 to 160 and have a 40 percent or more disability. The entire process is online and the Rs. 10000 amount would get directly transferred to the bank accounts of the selected individuals.

Eligibility, Application Process And Benefits

The financial assistance would ONLY be provided to those individuals who don’t have any pending government debts or serious legal cases against them.

Interested candidates can visit the official website and fill out the required form. They would also need to upload certain documents, including Aadhaar card, a passport-size photo, bank account details, residence and income certificate and a disability certificate.

Once the form and other formalities have been duly completed, they need to take a printout and submit it to the department’s office at Room No. 21, Vikas Bhawan.

Officials would then analyze the application and transfer the amount directly to the eligible individual’s bank account.

The scheme would help potential small business owners who are lacking the required funds to start their own business and become financially dependent.

Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge Box Office Collection Day 40: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge has entered its 40th day at the box office and is running at low levels. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the spy drama is earning below Rs 2 crore daily after a strong weekend boost. Despite the dip, the film continues to hold a massive lifetime global total and remains part of the record conversation.

The film saw a clear drop on Monday after collecting Rs 3 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.40 crore on Sunday. On Day 40, Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge earned Rs 1.05 crore in India, taking its total domestic net to Rs 1,131.64 crore. The worldwide gross now stands at Rs 1,779.02 crore after 40 days.

The 6th week has shown a steady decline in collections. After a strong start in earlier weeks, the film is now moving at a slower pace. Even though weekend numbers gave a small push, weekdays are bringing it back under pressure.

The film opened with a massive first week of Rs 674.17 crore, followed by Rs 263.65 crore in week 2. Week 3 added Rs 110.60 crore. However, collections dropped in weeks 4 and 5 to Rs 54.70 crore and Rs 19.25 crore respectively. The current week is now adding smaller daily numbers.

Even with this slowdown, Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge has already become the first Hindi film to cross Rs 1000 crore net domestically.

Monday also affected other films running in theatres. Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla collected Rs 3.65 crore on Day 11, while Hollywood release Michael earned Rs 2.25 crore on its fourth day.

Despite the dip, Bhooth Bangla stayed ahead on Monday and continues to lead among new releases with a domestic total of Rs 117.05 crore in 11 days. Michael has reached Rs 18.75 crore in India so far.

Even after a strong global run, Dhurandhar 2 The Revenge is still behind the all-time record set by Baahubali 2. The film is close but not yet past the milestone in worldwide numbers.

Trade reports suggest that while the film may continue adding to its total, reaching the benchmark will depend on how long it stays in theatres. However, surpassing the Rs 2000 crore mark set by Dangal is impossible.
