Bhagwant Mann: In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Punjab Police, under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP), dismantled an inter-state and foreign-linked narcotics and illegal arms network in Hoshiarpur district.

According to an official update shared by Punjab Police on social media, the District Hoshiarpur Police arrested four accused involved in drug trafficking and illegal weapons supply. During the operation, authorities recovered 9.925 kg of heroin, two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were acting as local operatives for foreign-based gangsters. Rajasthan News: Rajasthan Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has announced that the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Barmer refinery that was stalled during the administration of the Congress Government would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21.

The 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) project would help the state become one of India’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complexes. PM Modi would inaugurate the refinery that was previously under Barmer but now under the newly-created Balotra district.

Rajasthan News-What’s Special?

The Barmer refinery is likely to start operations soon and is likely to move towards optimal capacity in a calibrated way.

The Greenfield Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at has been set up by HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL). It is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Government of Rajasthan, with a stake of 74 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

Previously, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma had commented that PM Modi would inaugurate the Pachpadra Refinery. In a post on X, the Rajasthan CM said the refinery would act as a lifetime to transform the state’s growing economy. CM Sharma posted that the refinery would revolutionize the Marwar region’s economy and that of the entire state as well.

Char Dham Yatra: The Char Dham Yatra covering Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath started on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya (April 19) with the opening of the portals of Yamunotri and Gangotri shrines after a winter break of 6 months. The Gangorti temple portal opened at 12:15pm and the Yamunotri temple portal opened at 12:35pm amid the chanting of Vedic hymns.

The first prayers at both Uttarkashi district temples were performed in the name of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opening ceremony of the Gangotri shrine was attended by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who prayed for India’s prosperity.

Uttarakhand CM’s Comments

Dhami remarked that the Uttarakhand government has made a series of robust arrangements so that all devotees could experience a safe and smooth pilgrimage. The CM urged all devotees to support a clean and green yatra.

In a first, restrictions have been imposed on the entry of non-Hindus to the shrines in Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri. It has been mandated by the Gangotri temple committee must consume ‘panchgavya’ (a combination of cow urine, dung, milk, curd and ghee) by non-sanatanis before they can enter the premises.

Non-Hindus are required to submit an affidavit that they have faith in Sanatan Dharma before they can make an entry, according to the Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee. The portals of Kedarnath and Badrinath will open on April 22 and April 23, respectively.

Interestingly, the Yamunotri Temple Committee has been the sole authority that has decided to welcome all devotees irrespective of religion.

The use of mobile phones and cameras inside all temple premises has been banned by the authorities. Till now, more than 19 lakh devotees have registered for the pilgrimage. In 2025, more than 51 lakh 51 lakh pilgrims undertook the Char Dham Yatra.

Narendra Modi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s brief roadside stop in poll-bound West Bengal’s Jhargram has triggered a massive political controversy. It was alleged by Trinamool Congress (TMC) that permission was denied to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren and they had to keep waiting in the helicopter before leaving without attending political gatherings.

Narendra Modi’s Jhalmuri Moment

On its official X handle, TMC wrote Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren and his wife and MLA Smt. Kalpana Soren were denied permission to land their helicopter into Jhargram because the PM decided to extend his stay in Jhargram to eat Jhalmuri.

TMC went on to allege that the “photo-ops stunts” of the Prime Minister took precedence over the democratic rights of Soren and his wife. Interestingly, it seems odd as to why the TMC, the party of Mamata Banerjee, is up in arms with PM on the Jhalmuri break.

Locals, including children and women, gathered around the PM as slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki jai”, “Narendra Modi zindabad” and “Jai Shri Ram” were chanted.

West Bengal is all set to go into state assembly elections across two phases on April 23 and 29 this month and election results would be announced on May 4, 2026.

Soren Praises Mamata Banerjee

Modi attended four back-to-back raalies in Jhargram, Purulia, Medinipur and Bishnupur before relishing Jhalmuri at a local shop. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren supported TMC and asked why elections in the state of West Bengal are held in two phases.

Soren went on praise the work of Mamata Banerjee for dalit, adivasi, backward and other minority communities. Soren added that the West Bengal government’s model fir education within Santhal and adivasi communities was one that the state of Jharkhand would like to replicate.
