Know Why Nepal PM Oli Expelled From Ruling Party amid political crisis

Kathmandu: The faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal Communist Party has expelled Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the primary membership of the party. The anti-faction has taken this step amid growing political instability over Prime Minister Oli’s decision to dissolve Parliament. According to Prachanda-led faction spokesman Narayan Kazi Shrestha, Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli is no longer a member of the party. Shrestha told news agency ANI, ‘In the Central Committee meeting held today, it was decided to remove KP Sharma Oli from the party. He is no longer an ordinary member of the Communist Party of Nepal.

The leaders of the Oli faction did not attend this meeting of the Nepal Communist Party. In such a situation, PM Oli can refuse to accept this decision of the ardent supporters. Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who is leading the opposition faction in the party, has opened a front against Oli for the past several months. In such a situation, it was already feared that the Nepal Communist Party, standing at the crossroads due to political instability, would be divided into two factions.

The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was formed in 2018 by PM Oli and former PM Prachanda. Prior to this, Prachanda’s party was named as Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), while Oli’s faction was named Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist). The two parties merged to form the Nepal Communist Party or the Communist Party of Nepal.

KP Sharma Oli played the anti-India card in the previous year. For example, he got a new map of Nepal, included three areas of India in it. Then they started saying that India is engaged in toppling their government. Oli did all this so that he could hide his failures and stop the voice of the opposing faction in the party, but these tactics of Oli failed. Now the leader of his party has become so upset with Oli that he was also sacked from the party.

Biden, Emmanuel in agreement over climate change, covid

The new president of US Joe Biden has always showed his support for the Paris cliamte accord with France and now after taking over as president he and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed their agreement on climate change and how to fight coronavirus.

The two leaders interacted in a telephone conversation on sunday and also discussed “their willingness to act together for peace in the Near and Middle East, in particular on the Iranian nuclear issue,” the French presidency said.

Former US President Donald Trump formally pulled the United States out of the Paris climate accord in November last year, claiming it “was designed to kill the American economy” rather than save the environment. Earlier this week, Macron had lauded Biden’s decision to return to the Paris climate accord.

An offical White House statement described France as America’s “oldest ally” and added onto it that Biden has plans for a close coordination with Paris on Climate Change, Covid-19 and the global economy.

Macron had initially attempted to forge a close relationship with Trump, but the two later were frequently at odds over Syria, US tariffs and Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord — which Biden moved to re-enter on his first day in office

Grouping minor without “skin to skin, direct physical contact” not categorised as sexual assault: Bombay High Court

Hearing the sexual assault case (sexual harassment), the Nagpur Bench (Bombay HC) of the Bombay High Court held that any activity would be considered as a category of sexual assault only if ‘skin to skin contact with sexual intent’ is there. The judgment also said that ‘just touching’ would not be in the category of sexual assault.

A single-judge bench of Justice Pushpa Ganediwala was hearing an appeal against the conviction in a case where the accused had allegedly taken a minor girl to his house under the garb of offering her a guava and pressed her breasts and partially stripped her.

Justice Pushpa Ganediwala of the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, in a judgement passed on January 19, the detailed copy of which was made available now, held that there must be “skin to skin contact with sexual intent” for an act to be considered sexual assault.

She said in her verdict that mere groping will not fall under the definition of sexual assault.

Justice Ganediwala modified the order of a sessions court, which had sentenced a 39-year-old man to three years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

“The act of pressing of breast of the child aged 12 years, in the absence of any specific detail as to whether the top was removed or whether he inserted his hand inside the top and pressed any breast, would not fall in the definition of sexual assault. It would certainly fall within the definition of section 354 of Indian Penal Code (outraging modesty),” the judge said.

Justice Ganediwala added that according to Section 7 of the POCSO Act, sexual assault on a minor would involve an act committed with sexual intent that involves physical contact without penetration.

Section 7 of the POCSO Act states, “Whoever, with sexual intent touches the vagina, penis, anus or breast of the child or makes the child touch the vagina, penis, anus or breast of such person or any other person, or does any other act with sexual intent which involves physical contact without penetration, is said to commit sexual assault.”

Based on the above definition, the court concluded that for a person to be held guilty under this law, the act would have to be committed with a “sexual intent”, and it must involve “touching the vagina, penis, anus or breast of the child or any other act, which are similar to the acts specifically mentioned in the provision”.

India China standoff : 9th round of military talk held today

After a gap of two and a half months, Indian and Chinese forces held talks at Commander Level on Sunday. In the 9th round of talks, the disengagement of soldiers from all the friction points in East Ladakh was once again discussed. This information has been revealed by quoting sources. High level military talk began at 10 am at the Moldo border point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Tensions between India and China have continued since May 2020. In view of this, till now eight rounds of talks have been held at the military level, but nothing concrete has been achieved so far. After almost two months, military level talks are once again taking place between the two sides.

Earlier, in the eighth round of talks held on November 6, the two sides discussed extensively on the withdrawal of troops from particular places of confrontation. The Indian delegation is being led by Lieutenant General PGK Menon, commander of 14th Corps at Leh. India has been consistently saying that it is the responsibility of China to carry forward the process of withdrawing troops from all the conflict areas in the mountainous region and reduce the tension.

In fact, no concrete result has been involved in several rounds of talks between the two countries to resolve the deadlock. According to officials, China has deployed an equal number of troops. Last month, India and China held another round of diplomatic talks under the ‘Executive Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination’ (WMCC) framework on Indo-China border matters, but the talks did not yield any concrete results.

Following the sixth round of military talks, the two sides announced a series of decisions, including not sending more troops on the front fronts, unilateral efforts to change the ground situation, and abstaining from any activity that would complicate matters.

A bizzare incident took place in South Africa, as per the report some Hindu preists have been accused of charging high rates to conduct funerals of Covid-19 victims.
Pradeep Ramlall, Manager of the Clare Esate Crematorium in Durban, crtisized the preists who are doing this. Ramlall is also a member of the Hindu Dharma Association of South Africa said that the organsation has recieved many complaints from the families of people who passed due to Covid.

The situation in South Africa getting more tricky as the new variant of Covid-19 virus is spreading there and as the death toll is increasing the crematorium has to be done in double shifts.

“Priests are charging between R1,200 and R2,000 to conduct a funeral. This is not right. As per our scriptures, this is our seva (service) to the community. If a family wants to give a priest a donation, then that is acceptable but priests should not be charging people,” Ramlall told the Weekly Post.

“I was in my vehicle. The priest had conducted a Covid-19 victim’s funeral. While he was in the parking lot, he removed R100 notes from his pocket and counted it before sanitising each note and putting the money back into his pocket,” he said recounting an incident that he had personally witnessed.

Ramlall addressed the community to avoid being exploited under the current circumstances and requested them to conduct the cremation themselves.

“We have pre-recorded videos that they can use. If they insist on having a priest, then the priest can conduct the funeral through Zoom or through a WhatsApp video call. We need to embrace technology,” Ramlall said.

For the last two months, Covid-19 infections and deaths have been rising exponentially in South Africa.
