India vs Australia: Australia bounce back after losing Warner

India vs Australia, India vs Australia Day 1,

The first day of play between India and Australia in the second Test ended with Australians scoring 162 runs with the loss of two wickets. The hosts brought David Warner back in the squad but he departed early and gifted his wicket to Mohammad Siraj, who was playing just his second Test match.

Indian also brought in Navdeep Saini for this match as Umesh Yadav’s replacement he picked his maiden wicket by dismissing Will Pucovski.

Indian team made two changes in their line-up and brought in Rohit Sharma in place of Mayank Agarwal. Dropping Mayank Agarwal was a big shock as he has performed well in the last two years and been the prominent opener for India in the Test format.

On the first day of play, the opening 33 overs were washed due to rain, and when the rain stopped Australians took the charge and held the crease with half-centuries from Pucovski and Labuschagne.

Rahane and the company will be looking to take two more sessions and bowl Australia out.

As of now, the score is 166/2, Marnus Labuschagne and Smith batting together at 67 and 31 respectively.

I’m good, nice to spend a bit of time out there, nice to stitch in a partnership with Marnus. I wanted to put him (Ashwin) under a little bit of pressure which I haven’t done in this series. Was just trying to hold the grip a bit tighter, I’ve been struggling, so I was getting into good positions today. Was good to get a couple of boundaries early. Marnus played well, hopefully, we go along well tomorrow,” said Steven Smith after the end of Day 1.

The Washington DC mayor has announced a curfew at 6 pm local time.

The process of counting and certifying the votes of the electoral college in the joint session of the US Parliament was started on Wednesday. The debate was going on in the House for this. Meanwhile, a group of supporters of Donald Trump suddenly reached inside the Capital Building.

They held violent demonstrations there and because of this, the debate had to be stopped midway. Actually Trump supporters were demanding that the election be canceled. During this type of demonstration, he also got into a clash with the police. It has come to light that during this period a fire fighting device exploded and a woman was shot, whose death has been confirmed. When the situation got out of control, the National Guard was sent to the Capitol Building.

The newly elected President Biden said that he is shocked and sad to see America in this darkness. Biden said in an address to the nation, ‘At this time, our democracy is under unprecedented attack. Unlike everything we have seen in modern times. An attack on the Capitol meant an attack on the stronghold of independence. Twitter, Facebook lock Trump’s accounts amid D.C. riots

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube took action on President Donald Trump’s posts Wednesday in the wake of riots at the US Capitol from his supporters, but the platforms stopped short of suspending the President’s accounts despite growing pressure from advocacy groups and prominent figures.

The President’s video message was issued more than two hours after protesters began storming the Capitol on Wednesday, as politicians convened for an extraordinary joint session to confirm the electoral college results and president-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

In the video, Mr Trump called on his supporters to respect law enforcement while reiterating his claims the election was stolen from him.

“I know your pain. I know you’re hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us,” he said.

“It was a landslide election. And everyone knows it. Especially the other side.”

He called for his supporters to “go home in peace”.

“We don’t want anybody hurt,” he said.

“It’s a very tough period of time.

“There’s never been a time like this where such a thing happened where they could take it away from all of us.”

He spoke directly to the protesters storming the US Capitol.

In a statement posted online, Twitter Safety said the decision had been made in response to the “unprecedented and ongoing violent situation” in Washington, DC.

“This means that the account of @realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these tweets,” it said.

“If the tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.

“Future violations of the Twitter rules, including our civic integrity or violent threats policies, will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”

For years, social media — especially Twitter — has been Trump’s preferred way to disseminate information directly to the public. Since November, Trump has posted regularly without evidence that the presidential election was “rigged.”

Twitter has labeled dozens of Trump’s posts as disputed or misleading and Facebook flagged misleading election posts by pointing users to trusted news sites, but Wednesday was the first time the president has been kicked off either platform even temporarily.

Twitter threatened to ban Trump entirely if he continues to break the rules.

Facebook also blocked Trump from posting on its platform for 24 hours, the company said, after it removed a video he posted to his supporters who participated in the riot. Trump will also face a 24-hour block on Facebook-owned Instagram.

“We’ve assessed two policy violations against President Trump’s Page which will result in a 24-hour feature block, meaning he will lose the ability to post on the platform during that time,” Facebook said in a tweet.

Malegaon bomb blast case accused Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit on Wednesday told the Bombay High Court, through his lawyer, that he was collecting intelligence for the Indian Army as part of his duty by attending conspiracy meetings for the 2008 blast.

The high court was hearing Purohit’s application seeking that all charges against him in the case be dropped.

Purohit’s lawyer Neela Gokhale told a bench of Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik that NIA should have obtained the Centre’s sanction to prosecute him.

Gokhale cited “documents from the Army and the former Mumbai joint commissioner of police, Himanshu Roy, commending Purohit for the inputs Purohit had shared with them over the years”.

Gokhale read out a few documents to show that “Purohit had in 2004 infiltrated many organisations like Tablighi Jamaat and informed his superiors for which he was appreciated and that is why operations were conducted that saved the country.” Gokhale said Purohit was asked to give special training to Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officials in 2008.

The NIA, however, opposed Purohit’s plea.

The HC will continue hearing the arguments in the case on February 2.

Purohit has also maintained that he was in constant touch with his superiors, informing them about his “actions and associations with Abhinav Bharat”.

The Lt Col is one of the main accused in the Malegaon blast case along with Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

Notably, during the investigation, the NIA had spoken to seven military intelligence officers all of whom had denied having any knowledge of Purohit’s undercover operation.

Punjab CM, AAP continue to be at loggerheads

The Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) on Wednesday attacked Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh alleging that the his government has applied the three controversial farm laws in the state even as farmers continue to protest against it.

Briefing a press conference, AAP national spokesperson and Punjab co-in charge Raghav Chadha accused the Punjab CM of betraying farmers and demanded him to resign immediately. His state came over Punjab minister of food and civil supplies Bharat Bhushan Ashu’s remark who told the media that the state has allowed the farmers from outside the state to sell their crops.

“In a press conference, the Punjab minister clearly said the three farm laws have been implemented in the state. He also mentioned how all produce is being bought and sold as per the new laws. There cannot be a bigger fraud, a bigger betrayal than this,” Chadha said.

However, Capt Amaridner hit back at him saying that Mr Ashu’s remarks has been distorted by the newspaper and those lashing out at him didn’t even bother to fact check.

“Punjab was the first State to have opposed the laws and, in fact, passed amendment Bills to negate their dangerous impact on agriculture,” he said.

Well, this is not the first time that the AAP government has hit out at the Punjab CM. Earlier, on multiple occasions, the Punjab CM has hit out at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accusing him of double standards over his support to farmers.

“I am amazed that they (SAD and AAP) spoke in favour of the Bills in the assembly, and even went to meet the governor along with me, but said different things outside,” Captain Amarinder Singh had said. “This shows their brazen double standard,” he added.

Replying to him, CM Kejriwal had accused that even Singh was a part of the committee that passed the controversial farm bills and is now misleading farmers.

“First you cheated the farmers by supporting the Centre’s bills in the committee, and now this is the second time you are cheating them,” Kejriwal had said in a tweet.
